PS: Ended up making 5 variants in the end and sorry in advance but they are only in 1280x1024 resolution.

They're not terribad, but they need work imo. The central swirl drags the eye all over the pic, and distorts the rest of the image, especially on V2.

Background is kinda plain, but I don't know the length of your photoshop skills.

From those two I like the top one better, as it's a great choice of colours.

I feel the swirl moves your eye around looking at all of the classes, I do agree that the swirl is a bit to blurry and takes to much attention from main content.
