Lydia Starbreeze's Art!
So, I got a bamboo tablet and I absolutely LOVE it. And today, since I had no school, I decided to actually do something with it. So, I tested out my Photoshop skills on this old commission I had. (Dunno who's warrior it is, so I wasn't sure what color the armor was supposed to be, just remembered purple...haha)
So, let me know what you think. It's not quite finished yet, but I'll post the complete version when it's done. I'm more interested in what you think of my coloring and shading and such since the drawing is old and I've improved since then.

That shading is excellent, the only thing that could be improved is contrast; pretty much everything is blending together, there's no dark lines to seperate them and contrast the light and dark colours.

Agreed with the above.
A little contrast, bigger boobs, have her wink at me, her phone number... and she'll be pretty much perfect.
Really well done.

The shield doesnt seem quite right. It seems out of proportion.

There's a lot of things on the picture that don't seem quite right, like the right arm, shield, angle of the body, and size of the boots. try "embossing" the image of your character (or the character in question) over your picture at 30% opacity and use that to sort of "trace" and correct issues.

I know some are saying this is great and all, but from what I see the shading is not excellent. There is so much room for improvement. Don't be afraid to use color, dramatic shading or bold outlines. Another thing, outlines don't necessarily have to be black. I don't know what sort of art you look to--if any--for inspiration, but it doesn't hurt to emulate another artist's style for a while until you come up with your own.
However, keep at it. This image isn't bad. Plenty of artists start out like this, I'm just giving an honest critique because I assume you like what you do and telling you nonsense wont help.

as the others have said, it's really nice! the comment about the contrast is true, go for more and deeper shadows - that makes the whole thing come out more 3D-y lol. proportions seem to be quite good, and yes, the shield is at an odd angle but that's really hard to get right. the thing that bugs me most is really a little thing, but that warrior looks so scared

I like the black outlines. Comic books are mainly my inspiration, lol, and Avatar the Last Airbender is a big influence as well. If I were aiming for a more realistic style I would leave out the outlines. But I like cartoons too much, so that's how i tend to draw.

Definitely, I will try to use more contrast. And the shield, yeah, its way off. and LOL, yeah, i guess she does look scared! Should change eyes and the mouth...haha.

Ya, like I said, old drawing. It sucks. Only thing I did before tracing and coloring was fix the nose, lol. But I'm definitely going to try the embossing thing. Normally I just use a sketching layer over the original drawing, sketch changes in pink, then put another layer on top and sketch the final draft.

And black outlines are great. Comics and cartoons are pretty much my main inspiration as well, as realism has yet to interest me. I'm not saying you should get rid of the outlines, but maybe experiment with different weighted and colored outlines. I can't find some decent sized or genuine Avatar images really featuring what I'm talking about in my limited time at the moment, so I'll give you some other quick examples of what I mean.
Say you were drawing a woman with pink hair, you could outline her hair with a red. Of course you could use other colors, but the "right" ones really start coming into play when you figure out a color scheme which I can't really get into at the moment. Here's an example of what I mean: http://theirison.deviantart.com/art/James-s-109430744
Another thing, the image you've shown us has a uniform outline pretty much throughout the entire character. It ends up looking a bit boring, and I apologize for my frankness, I really do. http://qiqo.deviantart.com/art/Chun-...-Art-111941499 Notice how her hair and ribbons have delicate, wispy outlines while other features are heavier and more distinguished. This brings liveliness and depth, and is much more pleasant to look at. And it's prominent in comics and still renderings of cartoon characters, to boot.
Art is all about your personal growth. I hope this helps and you wear the hell out of your tablet pen.

Here's a new drawing. *shrug* its not much, haven't had much time to really work on it. Started coloring it, but I'm not done, so critique is welcome so i can fix whatever i need to.
The legs bother me, position seems off, and I cannot draw hands. Or feet really, but I tried. Don't feel like fixing em.
I tried using different thickness of lines, but it looked really crappy to me so i didn't do that after all.

I'm not an artist at all, this is purely just my opinion. It looks like her right foot is a left foot. Hard to explain but the bigger toes look to be on the outside. Might be my own perception. Other than that your artworks is really great!
