Fissure of Woe
This is a story I wrote for class. Needed to write a fiction story and DE gave me the wise idea of doing it on Guild Wars. I did wrote this kind of quick so don't be too critical
Fissure of Woe
“Woo.” I said as I stopped to catch my breath after my companions and I finished off the last of the reed stalkers outside of the Temple of Ages, an ancient temple devoted to the 5 Gods of Tyria: Balthazar, Dwayna, Grenth, Melandru, and Lyssa. My companions, Karn, Arkantos, Racthoh, Trubs, and myself, Acherulis, were in search of this temple for several days now since leaving Lions Arch, the capital city in Kryta. It is rumored that those who were ascended could unlock mysterious powers from the 5 statues devoted to the Gods. The ascended are those who received a blessing from the Gods through a series of tests in the Crystal Desert and my fellow party members and me had gone through these tests at a time when Tyria was threatened by the White Mantle. Now that we have arrived to the temple all we could do was wait because we really had no idea what to expect when we arrived.
“Perhaps we should kneel before the statues and pray,” Suggested Racthoh.
Racthoh was always the more intelligent man in our party and was a mighty warrior who was rumored to have been born in the battlefield against the Charr in Ascalon many years back.
“Good idea, Racthoh,” I said. “Let us kneel before Balthazar and see if these rumored powers are true.”
We all knelt before the statue of Balthazar, the god of war and fire, the one who gives us all our strength and courage to fight. When we knelt and said our prayers and all of the sudden a mighty figure appeared before us. The figure was transparent and dressed in full platemail armor and stood a good nine or ten feet tall.
The figure spoke to us with a deep and loud voice, “The god of war has been waiting for you. The Shadow Army led by the evil half-brother of Balthazar, Menzies, threatens to take over Balthazar’s realm if we don’t act soon. You are the ascended; it is your destiny to defend it.”
I was standing in a desolate land, the ground black and worn down, look as if a battle had just been fought on it. I then realized I had no idea how I got here. My companions were right alongside me and we were all confused as to where we were and how we had managed to get here from the Temple of Ages. I then remembered the transparent figure we had spoken to and his last words: “it is your destiny to defend it.”
Another transparent figure stood not too far away from us but this time we could see his face, it was the face of a man with a thick beard and he wore armor that looked much older and more of this worlds than the other ghostly figure we met in the temple. He approached us and said “You are the ones sent here by Balthazar himself to crush the shadow army and restore order in Balthazar’s realm. It is time to prove your worthiness by taking back the Tower of Courage and vanquish the Shadow Lord occupying it.”
I answered him curiously, “What is this place? Why are we here? Why were we chosen with this task? Why should we defend this realm and how can we even defeat a God and his army?”
“You have entered the Fissure of Woe, the realm of the God Balthazar. This is your destiny to defend it, what you were meant to do.” The man roared. “If Menzies succeeds in his conquest to take over the Realm it could create an imbalance in your mortal world, Tyria, and your people will undergo a war you cannot win against chaotic forces who will never stop until everything is plunged into darkness.” Said the man urgently.
“Perhaps it is time we get a move on then, I don’t like the thought of Tyria being plunged into darkness let alone see my wallows die.” Trubs said immediately. Trubs was a Canthan woman who grew up in right in the middle of the civil war between the Luxons and Kurzicks. Her love for wallows, a disgusting fat creature with spikes on its back that walked on all fours, far exceeded anything else she loved. I never really understood this love but I guess everyone has a love for something, no matter how strange.
We set off towards the Tower of Courage which was not too far off but there were several patrols of the shadow army standing between us. The shadow army was not an unfamiliar site; we had encountered them many years ago when we freed Elona, a land far away, from the threat of Nightfall. They were offering their aid to the dark God Abaddon, a foul God who had been chained away never to be heard of again until Varesh Ossa had released him and almost brought the end to the very world as we knew it. They were not an easy foe to defeat but they were definitely beatable. They mainly consisted of men who had been twisted by the dark gods’ evil and mysterious creatures that we referred to as shadow nightmares. Shadow Nightmares were exactly what you would think they are when you hear the name, they appear as shadows and they are a nightmare to fight in battle. They are always moving around, they can be in front of you one second and behind you one second so this was a good reason to be cautious when approaching the enemy. There were also large creatures, Abyssals, these gargantuan trolls were mighty and a handful in battle. Standing nearly twice as high as a human their large fists could crush through almost anything and their large fangs were an unpleasant sight as well.
The enemy realized we were marching on the tower and immediately signaled an attack on us. Arkantos ran in with his mighty hammer and shouted a loud battle cry “For honor and glory!” and began swinging the large maul at the enemy. Arkantos was fierce on the battlefield, someone you never wanted to be against on the field of battle. He pounded the hammer on the ground sending a shockwave all around him which knocked down our foes. Karn took this opportunity to bring fire from the skies and finish our enemy off. Karn was an elementalist, a man very in tune with the elements and an expert at using spells to crush the enemy. Wave after wave of shadow army foes charged in on us but with Trubs, a monk very in tune with Dwayna, there was no chance of failure.
Now that the enemies standing in our way of the tower were dead it was time to reclaim the tower. The ghostly man walked up to the closed gate and roared to the tower, “Heed to me O Tower of Courage! I have come to destroy this foul beast hiding in this place! Protect this coward from my might no more and show me his face! As a servant to Balthazar himself I command you open this gate now!”
The gate opened and a deafening shriek poured out of the opening to the tower and put us all to our knees. Two abyssal charged out and began attacking us. One had its eyes set on Trubs and knocked her down. I ran over to Trubs to defend her and before he could put the final blow on her I swung my blade at his arm sending it spinning in the air lifelessly. The abyssal howled out in pain and jumped on me. I began to wrestle him fighting for my life and soon enough Racthoh plunged his axe into the back of the abyssal head. I recovered and got back to my feet and charged over to help kill the other abyssal who was giving Karn and Arkantos a rough time. The last abyssal was no match for the rest of us and we killed him quickly. After we had finished off both of the abyssal the loud shriek sent us to our knees again, holding our ears to drown out the horrifying sound. A large shadow nightmare jumped out of the tower, most likely the shadow lord. He teleported over to one of the abyssal, consuming its corpse in the process, and began to attack us. He swatted at us with his razor sharp claws in an unrelenting fury. He knocked me down and crippled me so that I wasn’t in a state to fight. It was up to my companions to take care of him now. Karn casted a spell on the beast and encased his legs with ice, hopefully keeping him still for a moment. As soon as Karn did this Arkantos took the opportunity to knock him down and lay a crushing blow to him while he was on the ground. Racthoh plunged his sword into the face of the monster. The monster let out one last shriek and finally died.
“Menzies and his minions should know that they stand no chance now. You all fought gloriously and reclaimed the Tower of Courage. Now that you have proved you are worthy of defending the Fissure of Woe it is time to destroy the shadow army. March on the great forge east of here and take it back. Doing this should drive them back.”
We set on toward the forge without question because we know our task was an important one. The fate of Tyria and perhaps the entire world depends on us so we were ready to accept any task the mysterious man asked of us.

Perhaps I can do a fow speed clear. Ithink something like that would be fun but it would totally throw off my class so I need to keep the adventures epic in a way my readers can understand.

This.
O and DE your name isn't very practical on a fantasy world. If I do for some sick distorted reason continue this godawful piece of work I have promised to include Akuma. Perhaps I can include you DE. You can be the Demonic Elf, Menzies General. Something lame along those lines
