here's my entry:
click me! The idea is: "Lady Zaila awaits her secret lover in Grothmar Wardowns, but the sun is sinking beneath the Far Shiverpeaks and he is nowhere to be seen. The wind changes, and Lady Zaila begins to realize why her beloved isn't there." Interpret that as you will, this could be just another story from Zaila's life, though I took inspiration from the thread about the end of your GW1 character. So, this could be one of her final moments, or not. Maybe Ulrik is dead, maybe he's in danger, maybe he didn't show up because he thought they could have no future together... maybe Zaila will go after him, or maybe she won't. It's your story to tell. I kinda removed her glasses and let her hair loose to add to the feeling. ^^' hope you dont mind. |

Wow, first I would like to say I love every single entry! Good job everyone! This was really fun...
We three judges sat down and talked this over (it took two and a half hours!) and we have finally finished and decided the placings! Prize list was raised 5k to all places to reach maximum gold potential of 220k With the exception of Stormx and Satomz (Who already have) I'd really like it if everyone sent me their entry as large as they can, I'd be very happy I will send everyone a PM (tomorrow, too tired at this very moment) asking for your In-game name, and confirm with you your prize amount. 1st Place - Tzu awarded 80k (No character bonus) http://fc07.deviantart.com/fs51/f/20..._Adamoluna.jpg Winning with a unanimous vote! And I would be surprised if anyone were to disagree. First off when I first saw this I was absolutely stunned, I still am. The pained expression on her face, pure anguish, even if you were unaware of the situation you can easily tell she is distraught about something, and not just because she just witness a lioness take her kill distraught, but truly because something she cares for has gone completely wrong. The shadows beneath/around the eyes add so much to her expression. The blurred background fits almost perfectly with the sharpness of Zaila. Incredibly detailed. You can definitely tell it takes place somewhere in the Charr homelands. The colouring of the sky and of it reflecting/mending with her hair is gorgeous! Simply put this is an overall beautiful piece. If you have a larger version I'd really love for you to send it to me. If not it's ok, it doesn't look bad if I were to just enlarge it. 2nd Place - Qing Guang awarded 57.5k (Including pet bonus - 2.5k) http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/a...ntestEntry.jpg I'm really glad someone decided to go a different route and sway from the Zaila-Ulrik love. (Not that I don't enjoy those!) I fought hard against the other judges on this one. Clearly I won out. Which in a manner makes the whole judging system pointless, for that I apologize to everyone. [They fought me by the way because they thought it didn't fit with the rest] This piece does a great job of capturing the kindness of any ranger, specifically Mik who does go out befriending extrordinary creatures. The baby tusked howler is really very cute. I love how the baby is almost hesitant though at the same time quite comfortable taking food from Mik, showing how great he is with wild creatures. Most definitely a great piece of work. 3rd Place - Stormx awarded 32.5k (Including Ulrik bonus - 2.5k) http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/8224/32584651.jpg A simple yet beautiful piece. Nicely detailed. I once wrote a scene with Zaila and Ulrik in a meadow having a picnic and this reminds me quite a bit of that. What I love about this one so much is how amazingly accurate you drew Ulrik. Cute and cuddly though still very fierce and big. Not at all like a monster, something we all felt the others did not show. It is a very cute drawing of their love for each other despite the obvious difference in well... species. An incredibly lovable drawing. 4th Place - Izarian awarded 20k (Including Ulrik plus Character bonus - 5k) http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/2...rslunaluna.jpg We had a tough time deciding if this should be placed as 3rd or 4th. In the end we chose 4th, the romantics in us surged to place Stormx's as 3rd. But we all agreed that this was very well done. The main bit that we thought made this piece so good was how you brought movement into the picture by adding the blur. Fili's hatred is evident and having Zaila crying as she tries to get Fili to stop was a nice touch. The details in the armour is quite well done as well as the choice in colours. Represents their love triangle quite nicely 5th Place - Satomz awarded 12.5k (Including Ulrik bonus - 2.5k) http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/8...alunasmall.jpg A very sharp very detailed drawing of Zaila casting a spell and ready to fight. What kept this from going any higher is we believed that it almost looks as if Zaila is going of to kill the charr in the background. The Charr in the background looks almost to be evil and more Charr-like than I ever pictured Ulrik to be. In the end this tied with Dragina's drawing, which was actually almost perfect since 5th and 6th originally had the same prize amount. The background colours are quite fitting, looks almost as if it took place in post-searing Ascalon area. The armour is very nicely detailed, especially the sleeves, Overall nice piece! 6th Place - Dragina awarded 12.5k (Including Ulrik bonus - 2.5k) http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/9390/contestentryu.jpg As stated above this is technically tied for 5th but since the prizes were already the same we just left it as is. What we liked about this is you like Stormx showed a more intimate view of Zaila and Ulrik's love. Well detailed, shading is nice (though I may have to darken to get the details that your scanner took off from the sleeve.) Just because this takes "last" place does not mean it is our least favorite. Their is a lot in your piece that the others did not have at all. In your first piece especially, we loved how you took Zaila into the real world, having just GW as a dream. We all laughed and loved the description you wrote for the piece it was nicely done, and so we all agreed that it deserved an extra 2.5k bonus. The second piece you submitted is equally as good, perhaps even better. It almost looks as if you had Zaila backed into a swamp giving her nowhere to run, sort of forcing her to take a stand, perhaps her last?
