absolutely stunning, Charlie!
I had pretty big expectations for what it would look like in the end, and still you impressed me by taking it even further. The weapon design is really cool, and you can get lost gazing at the immense level of detail in the piece as a whole. o.o'
Really, really nice work, congrats.

How's the pictures for your Golem coming along?
@Tzu: thanks for the feedback, glad you like it. I'm glad I ended up switching to the pumpkin idea for the hammer - seems to add a lot more to it.

Good lord Charlie, that's incredible! I can't believe that's just pencil, it looks like a photograph.
I hope you enjoy your art book.

Nothing done picture wise. It's been raining most of the week and my daughter caught some nasty cold (or flu) and shared a bit of it with me. After 3 days of fever she is finally doing better and back to running around the house. The next 5 days are supposed to be sunny so I'm hoping I can get pics on Saturday for the earliest, most likely Sunday though. Brainstorming compositions right now and trying to find where my kids hid the tripod.

anyone have any tips for getting rid of a really bad artist's block? >.<''
I just can't seem to find the inspiration to work with the jora costume all of the sudden.
I made some boot-armour today, that was all. Havent touched the costume in 3 days and I really dont have time to fool around >.<'''

@Tzu: Taking walks or being around nature in general are usually nice ways to help recharge yourself. Just find a nice quiet area, listen to some tunes and soak it all in. Someone mentioned that you live in Europe? I'm sure there's some nice areas out there that you'll be able to find.
Starting to get cold down here in California. Nice to take walks at night when the fog is rolling in everyone pours into the restaurants and bars along the mainstreet. The atmosphere itself is kind of creatively inspiring.
@Kiya: That's a bummer, the flu is no fun. Hope you two feel better. Looking forward to seeing your final pictures - also hope the leaves finally turn orange for you!
@Operative & Minami: Thanks guys, glad you like it. And Operative, I'm personally trying to shoot for the new mini :P

The more I stress, the less I want to do things. I don't know if its the same for you Tzu, but if it is then you need to go do something fun that is totally non GW related. Once you are relaxed, think of WHY you want to get this costume done. Do you want to do it to prove that you CAN do it? (Thats often a reason for me.) Also if I start thinking of how there is someone else besides me that wants to see a finished project it encourages me to get off my duff and get some work done.

ZOMG!! all hail Charlie, the pencil god
no, srsly, how awesome is that??!? love what you did to the architecture in the end, it's really nice and dark/mysterious! how big exactly is this if it's too big for a scanner? brilliant work!
I felt really halloween-inspired, coming home for a short break and it was nice and cold and autumnal and leaves falling and everything. Then it started to snow, and now I'm in the world's biggest christmas mood >.<
anyway. thanks for the feedback on my stuff, guys, I'll probably get rid of the wing (never was too sure about that one myself, tbh..) and get some ghosts and cool background stuff in

Tzu: When I'm stuck and have "artist's block", I usually try and forget about it all for a day... watch some movies, drink a cup of chamomile tea (it has a nice relaxing effect on the body) etc, and after a day, take a collective look at your work, all in one, and it will inspire you to work on it and perfect it. What I like about this method is that you don't look at other works to inspire you, but your own.
As for my own work... Here's the new pose; I had to change it because the old one just would not fit with any kind of background I thought up...
I also drew some tattoos onto her hand and feet textures. I was thinking about drawing a tattoo onto her stomach too, but it kept messing up the smooth lines of her muscles that are specially lit up from a half-side angle to make it look like that.
Clicking on the pic will make it bigger. ^_^

Hmm, I cropped it down from the old size I was planning to go with. It's at about 14x12" right now - not nearly as large as I originally planned it, but still overlaps the scanner's panel. And I'm liking your idea for vector art; I've always thought that was a really cool effect. Eager to see what it is you're planning on doing
@Blue: Really loving the intense lighting and coloring effect on it. Looks like it's coming along quite nicely!
@Minami: Outstanding 3D rendering you've got going on there. Do you do work for gaming companies or anything like that?

Charlie: Thank you ^_^
Nope, my 3D work is all self taught and I'm doing it for fun.
However, a picture of mine got into a book once (an instruction book on how to use a 3D program ^_^), and a couple got onto album covers.
I really love doing 3D, fiddling with surface settings and perfecting poses and lighting... ^_^

@Charlie: Wow, I would never have the patience to do that. The mace is wonderful. That picture ought to be on the side of a cathedral somewhere in GW2, I swear.
@Blue: You solved the contrast thing, looks like. Zhaitan is looking more impressive now. Didn't notice it before, but a good use of those crossed spine things to draw the eye up to him. I think perhaps the bone dragon could use a little more lighting - he still fades a little into the foreground. That may have something to do with my not being able to fit the whole image on my computer screen, though, so it may not be a real problem at all.
@Minami: Ooh. Normally I'm not too into renders but that looks fantastic. Great details.
Well, I got around to playing with my costumes. Went out, screenshotted Pyre and Jora, and got back to work (ended up ignoring the Jora shots). I didn't notice this before, but Charr have spikes on their shoulders! So I fixed that. And since Jenna got shoulder spikes, I thought it would be better to give Ebia something else. So she got furry shoulder straps. I touched up the rest of her outfit a bit, using Olrun as a model (I still want to keep it my own design though). Also, I changed some details on Jenna's hat (pronounced the ears more, brought the eyes out), and gave her sleeves like Pyre's. Threw some rope detail in there, too. How's it look now?

Me too. :P
Blue: Your pic looks more balanced now, and I think it's going to look waaaay awesome when you're done! It's such a dynamic picture! I love the electric/lightning effect coming from Zhaitan's mouth.

Okay, finally got around to posting Gui's costume. Looking at it again, I think it's got the requisite cuteness, but it's a lot more Alice than Loli, and the detail doesn't stand up to that on the other two costumes. I'm definitely ditching the flower earrings for something more like the Shing Jea ones. Not sure what else I can do for it, besides perhaps trash the Mary Janes or make them heels. Admittedly, the scars on her face will add a little to it, but still, IT NEEDS HELP.
Oh, and the little color dabs on the side are just a couple tests. I definitely want the main fabric of the dress to be something close to the middle purple. The lightest lavender is her hair color.
Ignore the crappiness of the picture; I did it in one class period last year.
EDIT: I'm thinking of deriving more from the Shing Jea armor, but I need to keep the overall look intact. I may add fingerless gloves or something and perhaps boots.

Looking good. Where'd you find that concept art? (v. curious as to the original idea, as it looks pretty neat)
Boy, Nolani's dead today, eh?
I kind of freaked out today when I realized I need to have this done basically by Wednesday... and I don't have any time tomorrow... I have essentially Monday and Tuesday to draw the whole dang thing.
I reworked Gui's costume, and I think I upped both the Loliness and the GW-realism. Sorry for the cruddy quality; I had to scan it. I got most of the inspiration from Necro Ascalon, SJ, Canthan, Kurz, and Deldrimor, plus Ele Kurz and Mez 15k Kurz. The colors from the old version still apply. There is lace trim on the sleeves and the bodice. I was planning on fastening the bodice with ties but I was looking at the Ele Kurz and was inspired to do frog clasps instead, but now it looks a little too much like that armor... would laces be better? Still, my only big worries are that a) the boots look kind of boring and b) the base part of the skirt is blah. Other than that I'm quite happy with it.
In addition to Ebia asking "So why did she decide to be a necromancer?" I think I want a caption. I've been toying with:
-King Thorn's madness appears to be contagious.
-Halloween makes even Necromancers silly.
-Halloween: Bringing out the sweet tooth in everyone since 1072 AE.
I kind of like the last one. What do you folks think?
