Me too :P
All I know is that I need something that involves Trick-or-Treat bags and candy corns. I already got those modeled and textured. xD

Oooo, something 3D. Sounds fun. I really bad at anything 3D I really admire anyone who can do that.

Yupp, 3D stuff. I love 3D works. I usually do straight renders, without retouching them in a photo editing program. Makes it so much more challenging to set up everything correctly in your scene before you render.

Fortunately, there's a lot of free and cheap 3D stuff out there nowadays for people to start fiddling with. For instance, DAZ Studio is a great 3D program, and it's free. You can't model in it, but you can set up your entire scenes and render them.
On DAZ 3D's website, you can access quite a lot of quality models that are free, and even in the store the products are of highest quality and very cheap.
There's almost always a sale going on too.

Okie, I got carried away there, but I love to talk about 3D.

EDIT: Another nice thing about 3D is, that even if you usually hand draw your pictures, it's extremely easy to load a figure, adjust the body dials to fit your needs (muscular, thin, etc.), pose the figure and do a render.
Voila, you have an anatomically correct "sketch" of the character you want to draw.

Gwee, I think the "jora pumpkin slayer" idea was pretty badass. I think you should keep working on that. scrap this one if you want, but at least stick with the concept next time, I believe it's worth it. There aren't a whole lot of mistakes in your previous sketch either, so other than the usual "Ive been looking at this thing for too long, I wanna do something else" (I can completely relate, I do that all the time...) I dont think you have any sublimely good reasons for scrapping it.

Minami: 3D art will be interesting to see indeed, haven't seen any Guild Wars 3D art in a long time. As for ideas, why don't you start out at the very basics; what do you like to do? landscapes? characters? objects/mecha? Then, do you want to make an original design, or play around with existing ones? Do you want your entry to be comical, or pretty serious?

Tzu: Well, I like to have characters in my pictures.
Thing is, I don't have any armor model that looks like a GW armor. Modeling, rigging and texturing one correctly would take a couple of months, so that's not possible either.
Hence, I have to stick with something that looks similar to a GW armor. I have clothes that look somewhat like the ritualist's, ranger's, warrior's, and ele's (the ele one is for standing models only, the rigging on it is really bad for sitting figures).
I haven't tried making comical 3D art yet, and I'm not a very comical person either (), so I'd like to stick with more serious stuff.
Also, unfortunately, I don't have a pumpkin model and unless I find a free one somewhere, I don't see myself putting one in.
Thanks for the help.

well, it would be cool if you set up a ritu summoning some kind of halloweeny spirit. the armour doesn't have to look like the in-game one(s), just make it a little halloween themed (colours, details). I dunno what kind of spirit she could summon though, hmm....

Yes I was thinking about that concept, but I got stuck at spirits. If I can figure out how to make good spirits then the idea is perfect. Making a perfect looking spirit in 3D is quite a task, what with the surface settings and stuff.
And yes.... what kind of spirits... Hey, maybe the spirits of the trick-or-treat bags (j/k).
Ooooh hey, a big swirling cloud of trick or treat ghost bags around the rit.
That's kinda comical tho. About as far as I'd go with comical stuff.

But I dunno LOL.

I wanna make something that's awesome, and makes people go WOW!

P.S.: I forgot to mention that I also have some leafy armor thing that I imagine the GW2 sylvari might wear.

Progress: changed fabrics inside, covered leg caps in craft foam. Waiting for my husband to bring home the heat gun so I can treat them then seal them. Weather forecast changed again so looks like I can do my spray painting tomorrow!

I need opinions please. Should I change the trims that are circled in pink to gold toned like the ones that are circled in lime or would they be better left as silver?

And an older test pic of lighting it up.

well, it would definitely be cool to see a halloween sylvari, esp. if you can make the leaves autumn-style, what with the GW2 hype and all. :3

A trick-or-treat'ing sylvari!

EDIT: WOW kiya!!11 D8
I think you should go with the lime-encircled ones, the silver disappears a bit.

Kiya, WOW, it looks great! I agree with Tzu, gold outline for the edges circled in pink would make the design pop out a lot more.

Hmm okie, I'll do a couple of quick test scenes, one with the rit and one with the sylvari. See what they look like.

Still no progress from me, as I'm still unable to start Bah. It is looking iffy if I'll be able to get a costume done in the timespan I have available between getting money and the contest deadline. If I didn't have school and work to contend with it wouldn't be a problem, but right now I'm out of the house about 12 hours a day on average >.<

However, even if I don't get something ready in time, I will still cheer on everyone else! And who knows. Maybe I'll get a lucky break

Kiya, that golem looks insane. That is so awesome.

I sure hope you'll get a lucky break, it would be so cool to see one of your ideas come to life :3 they're refreshingly original!

gots to work on Jora today >.<' I was ill yesterday and the day before, so didn't do anything, now I'm behind schedule a bit. need to catch up! @.@'

Hmm I looked at what kind of leafy clothes I have, and they might really be pushing the "no nudity" rule. >_<
Gotta try and see if I can make a good ritualist, because I don't think the sylvari will work.

I found some riddiculously tall black heels today, in my closet (>.>''...) should I use them (for lulz and extreme height gain) or should I go with flat boots and just pretend I'm 6-7ft tall?
They make me 'round 190cm tall... D8

I'm putting all my pics on one page for easy viewing. http://hw2009.kirins.net

First coat of weathering.

Second coat of weathering.

Current golem status:

Changing the silver trim to gold trim really helped it. I am thinking the pokey bits on the legs will get changed to gold also. Need to make a little cap piece for just above the foot. After I re-iron the fabric for inside I will rig it for light and put the window back on. I also dremelled the pattern on the side of the arms so its a bit more noticeable than when it was just painted.

I'm about done with progress pics since the main items are about done. Someone elses turn now!

Now its time to figure out a scene. C'mon leaves, change colors.

------------

@ Tzu. I think heels might change your posture and it would be better to stick with boots and lower camera angles. You could always use the heels just to post for lulz.

uhhhh.... well, I'll cover them up with (detachable, expensive shoes were expensive) armour so you'll only see the insane heels. Not the pvc it's made of >.>'

EDIT: I agree with you though Kiya, they do change your posture quite drastically.

AWESOME progress, kiya!! The weathering is really nicely done, looks like real metal now. X3 I want to play with it so badly >.<''
