@Tzu: hey there, could you change my overall plan to "stylized realism with a mix of Baroque Gothic"? I've finalized the idea and felt that the latter two styles would be more appropriate for this contest than ukiyo-e. I'd like to show my current progress, but the drawing is too big for my scanner. Also, I lost my camera cord when I moved recently. I'll try to get another this Monday so I can upload my progress.
And those arm guards look really cool. What kind of paint are you using on them?

Thank you for introducing me to the wonders of Craft Foam! Looks like Amazing stuff, and I bet my sister will like it for her own projects.
The costumes this year are shaping up to look really, really good.

@ Zodiac Meteor: O.o'' ... so, should I put you up as [costume](idea: anton) then, or [sculpting](idea: anton)? :3 Anton would be awesome to see.
@ YSJ: yeah, I'll be wearing the costume myself. The only option for model I have would be my little yellow budgie, but I'm not sure how keen he is on the leather parts in particular. He also complains that the loincloth and pants would make him look fat. It's difficult to convince him otherwise.
@ Charlie: Will do! Is it possible to scan the artwork in pieces and put it together in an image-editing program, or is that out of the question? For the armour I use a mixture of different paints, I needed 7 different shades of brown to get the colour and effect I wanted, and I'm motsly using stuff I've got left over from previous projects, so my one req for them is just that they stick to plastic. After I've painted the pieces I apply a layer of laquer (not done yet in the pictures) which smooths the surface texture and makes any difference in paint types less obvious. I use wet ink for weathering and embossing, usually black or brown.
@ Op.14: yep, craft foam is a saviour in many ways. Although I sometimes see cardboard armour pieces look just as good. I think the outcome of your armour depends heavily on the paint-job, and an eye for texture and geometry.
@ Massiva: Thanks! ^.^ I think this halloween contest will be epic!
EDIT: added some .gifs to first post, for fun. Yeah, they're mostly penguins, but people dress up as penguins for halloween too! X3

@ Crucist: no prob, but the best thing you can do is to go to either www.deviantart.com or just google, and search for "[what you need] tutorial". I just put up some random stuff which is popular on dA at the moment.
The arm guards are done, moving onto the shins, upper arms, neck or the hip, I haven't decided yet.
it's considerably darker IRL and not so orange.
I'm going for a mix of the in-game armour and the CG render. It will probably look more like the in-game one in the end though. Here's my two refs for the arm guards; I took Jora for a walk in the shiverpeaks and noted the pattern of her greaves, but I didn't care too much for the colours, so I took some inspiration from the CG render.

The image itself is just way too big to fit into my scanner. When I tried scanning it, I wasn't able to shut the cover so the scanned quality was pretty awful. I need to buy another camera chord anyway, so no worries. I actually might pick it up later today if I get the chance.
That's a cool technique you have for the foam work. I'm eager to see when you start moving on to the other pieces - should be really cool looking.

Two questions Tzu,
1. Are you just going to submit a raw photo when you are finished or are you going to shop it up like most of the previous entries?
2. How many hours of sleep do you get in a night o_O

@ ZM: that sounds pretty epic, will be looking forward to seeing some progress pics!
EDIT: what does it have to do with Halloween though? Or isnt this an entry for the halloween contest, just art in general.
@ Blue:
1. It will be 1-3 raw photos, depending on how much of the costume I manage to capture in each photo.
2. It depends Q.Q I slept for 12 hours today though (yay sundays!) so I've rested up.

Posting some progress. I'll get to fixing the anatomy on the legs once I get a bit more of the arch done and start working my way down.

Thanks! I tend to jump back and forth in between styles sometimes. So far, I'm happy I went with the Baroque lighting effect. I think the hardest part will be the arch though - need to come up with some Gothic ornamentation running on the outside.

I'll have to abandon my plan for now whenever I try to run GW through the texmod loggin mode it gets picked up as a virus/trojan which results in a massive explosion of red-exclamation-marked popups and all sorts of trouble. So I'm re-thinking, but will definitely keep the margo-theme in mind :P
@ Tzu: gg on the armguards, can't wait to see the costume! It'll be sooooo AWESOME
@ Charlie: OMG that looks amazing! can't wait!

I'm almost done the second component of my entry (Zinn has not been an idle Asura ), here are the teaser pics. Please excuse the mess.
Originally I wanted a larger tummy screen but I had to limit it to the size of the clear acrylic sheets I already had. I did some more work on the weathering today and am tweaking the insides and lighting it up. I want to do legs for it but need to check what materials I have left and if the weather will improve for spray painting. Looks like rain and drizzle till the 12th.

@Charlie That looks really great!

Haha, I should've checked this thread before I went nuts trying to find a trick-or-treat bag in-game to take screenies of so I have a reference for the bag model (on the tiny wiki image I simply couldn't see if the bag had handles lol :P), then of course hand drew and textured my trick-or-treat bags.
I'll be making a 3D image for the contest.
