Should I be using weird Myspace angles? hehehe. Right now his teeth are on a felt strip backed with velcro so I can take them off and on. I had a set made for the upper part but he looked really toothy and his mouth didnt close right. I think the kids got to it so I can't put it in to show.
Current lower set:
I'll try making a new set, smaller and more spaced and see if that works better.
Yep, he can move. Its a giant Zinn hand puppet a la Muppets style!
Weathering more is a great idea. The 'metal' parts still look too silvery right? If I can figure out where my husband's airbrush went and how to use it maybe I can do it that way.
EDIT: New set. First paint job. With the flash it washes out the yellow tones I tried using, might redo it. Better?

oh, haha, now I see what you've done! XD That looks much better.
well, if you space the teeth a little more, that could solve the closing of the mouth problem when you add teeth to his upper jaw. Painting them slightly yellow and brownish inbetween and along the roots will make them pop and look more realistic, too. It's possible you could solve the "too toothy" problem by adding an upper lip to line their roots, but it might look odd since it won't match the lower mouth.
I quite like how the pauldron looks so far, it's not too silvery at all. It looks beaten up, like a real piece of armour should. Weathering the edges of the carved out details might do it some good, but don't forget to carefully highlight in return! Otherwise you might lose detail. Armour looks its worst when it's "blocky" in colour, there should always be some texture to it, even if it's only supposed to be a chunk of metal.

I love it Kiya! I have to agree with Tzu, that armor looks astounding. perfectly weathered and pieced together. I especially love the ear piece; they're a detail that would be easy to over look, but really make him look more Asuran. I'm in awe at your puppet making skills!
Missing his upper teeth like that he looks like an older Asura. :P I think one thing to note is that the Asura have larger, more widely spaced teeth instead of a bunch of little molars, and staining them as Tzu suggested would really add to the overall effect.

ZOMG a mini Mad King Guard! I want! I wish I could draw or make a Guild Wars costume for myself to enter.
As for this contest, I have an idea for what I want to do:
Believe it or not, I have a Barbie doll (yeah yeah I know) that looks almost identical to my ranger in Guild Wars, from the hair style and color, to the blue eyes, right down to the flat feet (not typical Barbie feet, but actual flat feet). I can make her a costume (as in armor from the game) and add a "Halloween" effect to it. I doubt anyone else has come up with that. hehe Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!
Kiya: The Asura puppet is looking fantastic! Great job!
Morag: I'm looking forward to seeing Eryn as a Margonite! Very creative!
All drawers: Can't wait to see what you come up with!

I can't remember who asked me for this file a few months back, but maybe it will be helpful for others too. It's the little trick-or-treat bags I used in my entry last year.

I'm pretty sure your puppet's jaw is dropped because it realizes how awesome it is, KiyaKoreena. Why A-Net hasn't contracted you for mass production of those things I will never know (I'd buy a few). Here's my Halloween submission (Mad King Thorn sculpting a face):
I ported the ragdoll to Garry's Mod and it's on facepunch for anyone that wants to use it.

@practicing: Looks pretty good, but you might want to move his left hand... he looks like he's about to slit his wrist!
Okay guys, so I'm going to decide which two characters I want to have in the BG. Should they have more GW-themed costumes or more ordinary ones? I've already got costumes for all but Simmy and Jiyu so the costume will decide who I pick. Options:
Qing (Rt) - Avatar of Dwayna (as in the statue kind, not the derv kind)
Xu (Mo) - Sort of a Renaissance-inspired witch - big hat, poofy sleeves, farthingale-supported flaring pleated skirt
Elly (E) - A more elegant witch - think Makani's renditions of Narcissa
Jenna (E) - A Charr - Charr-Hide Armor style hat with the entire pelt hanging off, plus furry paws and a Charr-style breastplate
Medea (Me) - A parody of an Elementalist, with miniskirt, midriff, and ruffles and ribbons galore (so fitting for her, and so GW culture, but might be hard to interpret as a costume)
Ebia (D) - A Norn - horned hat, Norn-style armor with a big furry cape, extra-high platform boots
Tiye (N) - Can only be described as "disco vampire." Think Evil Vampire Willow with extra flaring on sleeves and legs.
I'm leaning towards Jenna and Ebia but still am not sure. Advice?

@ KiyaKoreena: Awwww, he's adorable! Even with all those needle sharp teeth XD
Anyways, I'd love to enter this actually. I've not been painting much recently and need to get back into "the game" as it were, and this sounds real fun. My initial idea revolves around "Jora pumpkin slayer" haha. Though this might change.
Now I need to do some sketching XD

@ Kiya: that is some very efficient progress you made, and pretty much exactly what needed to be done. It looks much better now. As you say, the flash washes out the paint, so it's hard to tell, but I see they're a little darker around the roots, and definitely less hollywood white than the first set! ;D
I'll update your progress on first page. Do you want me to put the bag as part of the "useful links/tuts"? It's a very nice resource, if you're certain you want to share it.
@ Taurus ChicKa: Doll costume, that requires concentration and careful fingers. Looking forward to seeing some progress! I'll put your updated details on p1.
@ practicing01: That's a good idea. You should probably make it a little more obvious what he's doing though, I didn't get it at first. The background looks good, and the whole picture looks fairly authentic, but I'd enhance some of the colours and contrast to make him come to a life a little more. Also, a nice frame and/or some decoration on, in or around the picture would be fun to see. ^.^
@ Qing Guang: I think Ebia and Jenna sound like fun, they'd also go well with one another costume-wise! XD The norn costume with extra high platform boots is great X3
@ Hailfall: you don't have to draw, you could always try a different category, if you want!
@ Gwee: That's a fun idea! Do you want me to put you up on page1?

The trick or treat bag is public domain now as far as I'm concerned.
With my husband helping I got some better pictures of the Zinn.

Looks really nice, it's great to see him move around, and the shadows show off the folds on his face even better.
I like the eye area much more now

@KiyaKoreena: Love the puppet. ANet ought to hire you for merchandise; they'd sell tons of plushies! My only concern is that maybe the eyes pop out a little too much, so he looks a bit more cute. But that's part of being a puppet, really, and I can't see a way to really change that.
@Gwee: Great pose, good colors. Love the expression and the way the mountains in the bg frame her. The one thing I would change is that either her head seems a tad too small or her torso too large. At this stage, I can't see if you're shooting for an up-angle (as the size of her head seems to indicate) or a straight-on shot (as the rest of her would indicate). Great start, though.
Sounds like Jenna and Ebia it is, then. I've got their costumes sketched out as chibis on a notebook paper. Just need the side and back views, and a bit of cleanup, and then I may scan it to get comments on the outfits. May also upload the picture of Gui from last year, as it's got the outfit as a full-size.

Gwee; I like the powerful pose, and the colours are easily reckognizable too. Also; Jora-love! <3
You might want to see about the arms though, both of them seem a little off. Her left hand is a bit small, and the upper arm is too thin. The whole arm looks a little too short. Her right arm seems to be twisted in a way that wouldnt really work. The face of the pumpkin should be made more obvious and potentially scary. As you said though, its a prelim sketch, I dont know how much work you put into your first sketch-up, I tend to work on it quite a bit myself but we're all different. I'm looking forward to your piece a lot!
I've decided I'll do Deldrimor Jora, I've been asking around and that seems to be the popular choice. I hope to post some pictures today or tomorrow.

Haha, wow I laughed when I saw the Asuran puppet. Totally unexpected and a really neat idea. Also, I'll be keeping an eye out for that picture of Jora - looks like it's coming along nicely. Plus, I'm biased towards her since she's my favorite Warrior hero.
Anyways, I'm adding a few slight changes to my original idea. The primary focus will be my character wielding a Ball Hammer (my weapon of choice with Gladiator Armor) and wearing a Halloween Grenth's mask. I'll throw in a little miniature Mad King in there as well for good measure. As for the background, that's still up in the air.
Keep up the nice work; looking forward to seeing more entries.

The Queen and Daniel Frozenwind have decided to offer our support for this great initiative. We would be honored to announce the winners to this great workshop during our Halloween event, and we would like to invite Tzu (or someone who will take her place) to hand out the prizes personally on that night.
We shall provide a proper announcement and introduction for this, although we do not expect all prize winners to be present to take their prize. They can of course also come and get their prize later (although it's more fun to receive it in front of a huge crowd of course).
I see there are already quite a lot of promising entries, and we shall see if we can help and up the prizes a bit. Thanks again Tzu for this great and very original initiative. Please let us know if we can help out in any other way.
