Out of curiosity, if you're looking for professional/college level artists, and you have a good idea of who you'd like to draw your character (from the forum) why aren't you just bribing them with your oodles of ectos?
I half wanted to enter but I'm no where near college or professional level, but oh well. I'm sorry I can't live up to your drawing standards. :P

I'm curious as to what exactly "college-level" is, in terms of drawing.
(asks the art student, who is going to an art school yet is not great at drawing)

If it's anything like UC Berkeley's art level, it's very much under 9000.

If you sample averages I don't think even art colleges are over 9000.

It was a mistake to mention college or professional, because I'm scrub enough that I probably have no idea what that really means. So I changed it around a little. I was also hoping to attract others who were not necessarily big posters on the forums.

Again, I changed the actual original post to reflect more clearly what I was thinking.
------------------
My issue is that I'd prefer to spend my money on quality rather than quantity. I guess my approach was hamfisted, and I should be 'interviewing' artists on a one on one basis.
------------------
Espadon, I don't talk about any serious submissions in thread.
I can't figure out what I want to say properly so I'm going to just post an MSN conversation
"Some people here are probably trying their best and dismissing their work because it's not college level is kind of ungrateful because there are some other commissioners here offering prizes and they haven't gotten any type of submission at all so far."
that really rubs me the wrong way
that type of work is what I wanted to avoid, anyways
and if he's having so much fun I don't really see why he'd feel insulted that I don't like his picture that much
its just grotesque
its a good picture
but its grotesque
if he drew it cause he wanted to get laughs, and he did
not sure why he's attempting to pillory me now
sorry, I say what I mean
i really don't like kind of dancing around
or mincing my words to prevent hurt feelings
just never been good at it
probably never will
and I know the money doesn't mean anything at all to people like you and Espadon
cause you're making more than you'll ever need, anyways
honestly
I'm not a grade school teacher
sorry if I don't gush over every post
------
The other, final thing is - I dont mind my serious thread being part of a joke; I mind, but at the same time I know its fun and games, so I don't mind.
But if people are going to make issue with my choice to be somewhat grouchy then I don't think they're going to be successful with changing how I feel.

Well, it's definitely not my responsibility to worry about it but my intent was more weighed towards all the people on here that might want to give your challenge a shot that, as some of the above posts expressed, might not be up to your standards. Forgive me for injecting that bit about my own feelings at the end there, it just got piled on there for effect no less.
I like straight talkers, so from one straight-talker to another: If you're serious about getting serious commissions with serious quality, I think you still have to take the initiative and seek out serious artists [in real art communities if you have to].

I was on the other end of the msn conv, and I can vouch for the fact that YSJ sounds a bit angrier than he really is . I've been talking to him for a while now, and he is just... kinda bad at saying what he means.
I'll attempt to translate:
He is laughing at the jokes as well, but YSJ really just wants some more of the kind of art he likes. He's just being D: grumpy right now because of all the trolling :P.
He isn't really *trying* to just throw his money around, but he does want what he deems high quality works. I'm not entirely sure what this entails, but he does intend to invest his money in a few pieces he likes. I think he just expects them to be on a bigger magnitude than what's been popping up lately.
He just wants to buy art that he'll save. He wants to pay for the end result, not just effort or whatever, which I do understand. I don't think he means to offend anyone because of it.
Anyways, yeah, I've been trolling the thread for a while now, and I can tell he's getting kind of frustrated lol. Hopefully things will get back on track and YSJ can laugh a bit more in public to show he isn't always so grumpy :P

I was actually talking to someone on MSN about Nolani posters. Most of the people who've had commission threads in the past have usually shut them down due to loss of interest in GW, College, Work, or they just don't want to do GW art anymore. There are lurkers out there but I'm sure if you saw something you liked in older threads you could message them on DeviantArt, or even here on gwg.

My question before still kinda stands even with your re-wording. If you have an idea of what you want why don't you bribe the artists you're using as standards? Not everyone who wants to enter is serious about art, or at the level of your standards, it feels kinda like a put off that we don't even really get a chance.
EDIT: Wanted to say that I understand wanting quality over quantity, and it's good to have standards, but maybe you could make it less harsh in the opening post and let those who wanna draw your character at least have a chance :P

"Female avatar of balthazar taking shape around her, (a la Naruto+fox demon, though I hate to say this..) or taking ghostly form on Reyla's frame."

hehe, no scanner, no Photoshop.................................. /wrist
no but srsly, it sucks a lil bit, but Ill fix it later sometime. When I get my scanner working again I'll fix her facefail and a couple other things (like finish/start colouring her) and give her eyes etc etc etc
maybe it will inspire people or something, I dunno :/
the text reads "YSJ, sorry about the thread mess etc" but I fail >.> so yeah.
oh and there are some angry letters below, but I tried not to include them.
I got frustrated.
No ctrl+z IRL.
