sorry its late
sorry tzu just finished typing on my phone hope u enjoy it
Two hands gripped their respective hilts and two biceps tensed.BANG!! Smoke whispered out of the two barrels spiralling up to the heavens. From one of barrels came a faint growl.
Light filtered through the door frame seeping its way between the wooden door frame and dull stone floor. If you were to go through the door you would come to the Hall of Heroes and where the gods were feasting. If you didn't then this story would be as short as a grentch. For the sake of 250k and my sweet tooth title track I will relate the story.
Great golden pillars rose up in the hall, so high that small formations of cumulus nimbus formed around their peaks. The atmosphere was jovial, gods of all shapes and sizes quaffed their beer and generally were having a good time.
Raised, No elevated above the other tables was a table as old as the rift and as dirty as the canthan slums the four true gods sat at this table and Lyssa just pretended to be present. The atmosphere up there was, well to be perfectly honest with you it was icy.
Grenth was seething.
'Look Dwayna its my cracker so the item from which it comes is mine.'
'Ah but Grenth dearest the mini polar bear was in my half of the cracker, so therefore it is mine.' Dwayna spoke in the the voice only used by the deadlier of the sexes.
Unpeturbed Grenth carried on.
'Look dwayna its my polar beaar because it came from my cracker!'
'Repetition is no argument.' sang dwayna in sing song goading voice.
Grenth was getting infuriated. He stood up. His chair crashed to the floor. Slam! His fist hit the table.
'Dam...'
'Enough!' This time it was Balthazar who spoke, he had had enough of this bickering.'Enough!' he repeated in that special shout, perfected by teachers all over the world. It involves the mouth circumference to enlarge, the voice deepens and the eyes to become rotund, but an increase in volume is not required. However the effect was the same; the room went quiet.
'This is a stupid dispute and should end here.'
'May I make a suggestion.' uttered Melandru in a voice which had the harmonics of snapping twigs
'It seems to me that this fight does not have to spill blood but can instead be fought using snowballs and it will show us which one of you has the greatest support, it is winter after all."
Grenth was furious. He flung open the doors to his Stone Chamber and whirlwinded in.
'People' he spat, while pacing up and down on the cold, grey stone floor 'Dam people, dam dwayna and dam melandru.'
Now he had to use supporters. Of course Grenth had supporters it was just that people were so difficult to understand, they complicated things for no apparent reason. Balthazarr said it was called free will, Grenth called it stupidity.
He mused on. 'Like when I had this place built I asked for it to be as cold as the heart of winter, and the human said peri-glacial or glacial.' He thought to himself. 'And then the mere mortal had addressed him,the God of the u Underworld, as...hmm let me see ahh yes 'guv'. In the end Grenth killed the mason and magicked the stone hall.
It wasn't as if Grenth didn't have supporters, it was just that they were necromancers who believed they had to sacrifice themselves in order to gain favour with him. Grenth sighed, it was so tiresome, the average life expectancy of his supporters was the same as a perma sin who ran into incubus for fun.
No he needed something else. Closing his eyes he searched the inermost reaches of his minds, he needed something new, something dwayna wouldn't expect. Ah just the thing, what totally wonderfully idea what a spot of inspiration. 'DHUUMN!' He roared.
In the Temple of Ages Melandru laughed, as Lyssa's face split into a watermelon slice size smile. Lyssa was good at inspiration.
In her Snow Fort Dwayna was also thinking about what to do, suprisingly she had the same vindictive mind as Grenth.
'Dam Melandru dam her as the Charr damned Orr.' she thought
'The pet is MINE.' This time she spoke aloud and in a voice that went straight to the heart.
To the casual observer it may seem strange but Dwayna had no faith in her believers. Gods such as Dwayna and Grenth didn't need support they suffered from such great self belief, something which only those blessed with huge amounts of pomposity can achieve, that they could sustain themselves.
'Huh.' She thought bitterly. After the RoJ nerf her monks were as useful in a fight as a chocolate teapot.
Dwayna arouse from her seat and prised open a window. A blue hand extended into the torrential blizzard and a lone snowflake,
'What a funny shape.' She said.
She looked back at the snowflake,it looked like an ice element only with little globs of snow embbeded into it.
After a few minutes Dwayna closed her hands over the flake. Blue magic crackled and flowed from her hand into the flake rejuvinating the little life which was held inside the flake.
Lyssa's lip curled, she was good at illusions as well.
'So Dhuumn this is is what we are going to do.' Grenth spoke in a gravel like voice as he paced up and down.
'Yes master.' snivelled Dhuumn.
'Why are you saying 'yes', you've no idea what you are going to do.
'Yes master.' he snivelled again.
Grenth stopped pacing in order to shoot a disparaging look at Dhummn.
'You will gather an army of grentches and then lead them to the Secret Lair of the Snowman, where the Polar Bear is being kept.'
'Yes mas...'
'Shut up! From there you will proceed to aquire the bear by any means possible.'
'Certainly, anything you say, I will do it.' Dhummn spoke the words in the short gasps of someone who is trying to speek, while simultaneously grovelling, applaud his master and also subtly back away.
Once Dhummn had fled Grenth smiled to himself. Things were about to get fun.
Dwayna had just finished giving orders to her snowman army. Now all she could do was sit back and wait.
2 hours later.
'Sir Sir.' The raw recruit ran up to Freezie's desk. 'The grentch army has overun all fronts, we here.' he looked around for effect, when he felt this had been reached he continued. 'Are the last line of defense against the invaders.'
Freezie /pondered for a moment, then he turned around and spoke. 'Pull back the remaing scouts and all survivours into the narrow valley, we will rebuild the snow forts on top and there will be death from above.'
'Can you tell me anything else soilder?.'
'Yes sir they're diseasing us.'
'Wha- how?'
'Well they're y'know umm pissin-.'
'Okay I got you.'
'Well then time to fight piss with stones.' He said under his breath, turning quickky to his troops he shouted. 'PUT STONES IN THE SNOWBALLS!'
10 minutes later
'Here they come!'
'Bah humbug. Lets us at em. Yah.'
'Snowmen you have fought valiantly surrender now and you will be spar- Ufff.'Dhummn was knocked down by a weighted snowball.
'Spff.' He spat out snow and grit from his mouth. 'GET THEM.' He tried to get up but was knocked down, so he decided to hide in the snow.
'The gnthches advanced uncertainly through the passage, snowballs aloft, looking up at the white, shiny and reflecting walls.
'Steady lads.' said Dhummn's second in command Grenthus Magnus.
And then...
'Give em hell lads.' roared Freezie.
The grenthes were caught in a hell hole mega large snowballs pinned them down while hidden rocks knocked them out. They fell like skale in a barrel.
1 hour later.
'Well done Freezie you have served me well, and your reward will be to carry on protecting my greatest treasure.' Dwayna was elated but knew that Grenth would try again, this was now tradition.
Dhummn padded along the dark corridors.Dam dam da, why did I agree to this, now I have to escape and if Grenth catch me I'm dead mea-
'Ahh Dhummn.' Grenth spoke with mavelont glint in his eyes
'Ma...ma..master.'
'You did not expect me?'
'No, but I was the only one who escaped alive.'
'Really, why is that?'
'My heart is pure.'
'Indeed, well luckily I had another report from Grentchus Magnus, Who spun me a different tale. Now Grenth had a face hellbent on pain.
And that my friends is why we have the wintersday fight, why Dhuumn is imprisoned in the UW and also whyevery holiday I farm the Secret Lair of the Snowmen for that mini polar bear.

The carnage is rather disturbing. For on the head, maybe change the bones with the bump so they are a little taller? Other than that it looks good so far!

Yea the carnage makes it kinda uncomfortable. Maybe replace em with just bones, or something less unsettling xD Great otherwise!
Oh yeah, and maybe no carnage at all to be replaced with something more... Wintersday-y

Well.. that's not what you usually associate with a Wintersday/Christmas picture, but I commend your artistic talent Airaquila!
@ tmakinen: Very, very, VERY nice work.
:edit:
Just thought I'd slip my own update in here instead of double posting;

uhm, yes, you would wouldn't you... <___>''
maybe best not to take advice from this one, in this particular case.
I agree that the carnage could be made less gory, otherwise it greatly depletes the wintersday feeling of it all, and the fact that the minion is a reindeer may be overlooked because of it. I really like how it looks so far though, nice idea and very Grenth.
Thanks for the story, Deatgs, I was afraid I would have to cancel the writing award because of lack of entrants. Same goes for caption award.
We need more writers and, uh... "screen cappers"...?
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Thanks so much for the advice! I never realised how weird the windowsill looked before. I'm still tweaking, but here's where I am now:

Thanks everyone for the feedback!
Shy: I see what you mean. I'll make them longer.
Come to think about it. When things die or gets attacked in game, nothing bleeds. They just surta slump over and change colour if the corpse is exploited.
...That didn't sound right.

@ Mobiusman: The window looks a lot better now 3 suggestions:
I say crop off a bit of the right edge to get rid of some of the extra shadows and to balance it with the left side better. It also helps reduce the amount of extra space to the right of the window and doesn't distract from the important stuff (the window and ghosts).
I like the snowflakes much more now than just white dots, though I say add a few smaller ones to make it feel more like real snowfall. Not a lot, but just helps to show the varying sizes of snowflakes. You might also want to spread a few of the little ones out if you put them in and put a few closer to the bigger ones to also capture how snow falls sporadically.
I think it looks better with the three ghosts where they are now (they look more like they are popping out than when the third was in the shadows). I would consider flipping the middle one so it is facing the other way just so it's different than the one above it. Right now the two looking the same way makes me feel at least like they are looking at something specific, but there isn't anything in the scene they could really be looking at. Flipping it the other way and making it look a different way than the others gives the scene the feeling like the ghosts are looking around, almost quickly scanning the area as they appear.
@ Airaquilla: It's coming along very nicely. The trees look great and I love the colors of the sky/mountains. As for the carnage in the background, I'm kind of torn on it. I feel like if your entry is supposed to be more comical, it's fine. It almost is putting extra emphasis on how odd the creature is for Wintersday (given that you don't draw the carnage too graphic and take away from the focus of the foreground). If you want your entry to be more serious, I feel the carnage doesn't quite fit with Wintersday that way. The heavy violence would have too much focus and distract the viewer from the kind of celebration of Wintersday I feel all entries need to have in some way.

Haha good one .
I like that your drawing is gory though, maybe add in half a Frost Wurm to see what he's eaten .

@Kha: That's what I thought too. It would take too much attention away from the foreground. It most certainly would fit better if I toned it down. Bones, skin and weapons laying around should be enough with a dash of blood.
It is a necromancer after all.

So much talent in one thread. Wow!
I'm getting here a little late. Hope I'm not too late to join in the fun. I read the official guildwars rules and I'm not sure lyrics are accepted but that's what I started with. Going to try and gather some screenshots to go with the verses of "Twelve Days of Wintersday".
@Mobiusman: That is soooo cool. It does look as if the top of Dhumm's cap is outside the window though.
@tmakinen: Wow, all those chibi Gwen's. So cute! The display as a whole is...I do'nt know. It made me laugh a bit because it's so cute. Really captures the final event of Wintersday , except for there's nobody saying "How do I get a hat"?
@Kiya: I always like seeing your crafts. Very nice work. I don't know where you find the time to craft all those though. I'm still working on a papercraft hipppy beetle that I started last week.
