Yeah, I agree with Jasmine. (Red/green/white + a Wintersday-themed headpiece would be cool. :P)

Posted a progress on my gallery. No laughing at the way I draw hips now...
http://under-the-gun.org/wintersday/...hp?image_id=10
I know things are very skeletal right now but any feedback would be handy. From right to left we have Dwayna, Melandru, Grenth, Balthazar, Lyssa, Kormir and the Ghostly hero. Out of the window at the back I was going to have a view over the hall of heroes - going in game to snag a reference shot now. I'm considering just concentrating on the top table as I've probably bitten off more than I can chew in the time scale - my boyfriend has just confirmed that he flies into the country on the 14th so I need to get it 85% done by then and I've got a long way to go.
Loving everyone's work so far! Keep it coming

I know I'm late but my vote would be a Red/Green theme for Gwen as well Kiya. :P
I love that concept Tasha, it's quite unique within Guild Wars.

@ Gemini: Eeee, that is so cute! I love how they're all poking and looking at it suspiciously.
One thing I'd suggest though - make a bit more shadows on the snow on the bushes and trees. I can see how you've painted shadows underneath the trunks and on the ground, but the snow on top of the trees lacks enough contrast in the shadows on the edges where it's towards the ground.
Also, if you coloured the present box something else besides white, it would help it to stand out from all the whiteness in the background.
I love the characters though, they're absolutely adorable. Good work!
@ Operative: Very nice, can't wait to see more progress shots. Nothing to critique yet.
@ Morag: Love how your painting is coming along. The mood and the characters and everything is just so well planned out. Looking forward to seeing how it looks like fully shaded.
@ Tasha: Nice progress! The hall looks really good. I think it would have a bit more impact if you zoom in on the gods' table though. That way you can get more detail on the gods' behaviour and how they look, instead of having them so far away from the viewer. Looking forward to seeing the gods in action.

Oh a red green white scheme would be so lovely! I think you should go with that one ^^
Edit: (instead of new post)
@Perynne - the shadow on the trees is horrible, I did do a slight effort at the shading, but it needs more, obviously. ^^; The box though has to be white! I have never ever seen a white gift with red ribbons in real life, but it's a generic thing I carry from my childhood. great crits! thank you! ^^

Thanks for the feedback, I've cropped the picture in quite a lot and its looking much better. Will post another WIP later if I don't rage. Drawing real style Christmas trees from scratch - made myself a pine needle brush earlier and currently half way down one tree. This will take a while.
3 hours later WIP: http://under-the-gun.org/wintersday/...hp?image_id=11

haha tasha I can see that scene being good fun to look at, keep on it!
I've had another session, and the problem spot of my picture becomes more and more obvious:
what do I do with that? I can't make the cloak super long because that would look silly, and I don't just want to leave it bare for the benefit of the overal balance. Any ideas? rocks, ruined building parts, charr stuff (and what exactly is charr stuff??) I also think I need to change the colour of the main charr's cape.. blending too much with the fur.
KEEP IT UP EVERYONE!! ^:^

Morag I think what you fill the space with depends on where you envisage this meeting occurring. To me that would be either neutral or charr ground. If its charr ground you may be able to fit in one of their statues into it (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Charr_Firestand.jpg) or some seige weapon, otherwise some bare greenery would work I think. The only thing I'd say about "natural" items is to make sure that their colouring is distinct enough that they hold form, but subtle enough that the charr could move through the environment unseen.

I'm thinking more large black rocks to frame the picture. The emptiness allows the eye to escape the picture right now, which can suck for composition :P
Looks good so far tho.

this workshop is for those that wish to post their progress of wintersday art for comments and critcism ;-) it's not really a teaching workshop

Hmm...so with Droknar's Forge & Ascension Song, I'm at 2:55. Overture from Eye of the North would be about the same amount of time as those 2 combined (so it would end up being around 5:30). Should I add that to it, or would that make it too long (+ it's not like the song is played during Wintersday).

actually, I think it would be a great thing if people followed the workshop just to learn new things, not nescessarily entering the workshop contest nor the official one. I think I failed to make that clear last time, I might've made the same mistake here. I need to work on that tutorial section... >.<'
oh, and I'm back from Cape Verde, it was awesome. My feet were kinda sore from bug bites toward the end, and I'd managed to get sunburnt even when using SPF 50 and keeping out of the sun as much as I possibly could. I blame kite-surfing.
Sure was weird going from a desert island to snowclad mountains in 12 hours <___>
insta-xmas cheer tho! WHEEEEEEEEEEE
Everyone's progress looks great! We've also got some new donations, and in 2 weeks time I'll be continuing my own project (until then Ive got a helluvalot to do which I cant avoid/ignore).
