Wintersday Workshop
The Grand Goal of this Workshop is to allow new artists to jump out of the shadows,
to learn to give and receive Contructive Criticism, to enhance the Community Feeling by making
a collaborated effort to get a Guru Member amongst the Winners, and most of all;
have a great deal of FUN in the process.
You might fret that this thread is to be focused on winning the Official Wintersday Contest alone,
but that is NOT the case. The Official Wintersday Contest is our superficial carrot, something people
will strive for if the goal of progress and growth isn't enough at first. The most significant purpose of
this thread will be to see people make an effort, and to see them grow by doing so. The Wintersday
Workshop Awards will aid this cause. This time around we're even introducing a couple of new categories
which may otherwise not be so compatible with the Official Contest.
This Workshop will last from 07.11.2009
and until the results of the Official Guild Wars Wintersday Contest have been posted on GuildWars.com.
NOW WITH COSTUME CODES!
__________________________________________________ ___________________________________________
Q!: HOW DO I SIGN UP for the Workshop contest!
A: Fill out this form and post it in the Workshop:
Name: (Tzu)
Idea for entry: (grentchies making yellow snowballs)
genre of art: (illustration)
Then, get a Progress Gallery. This isn't obligatory, but it makes judging your entry a LOT easier.
Also, you won't be eligible for a couple of the awards, if you don't have one/haven't shared any progress in this thread.
A Progress Gallery can be hosted anywhere (DeviantArt, Photobucket, Wordpress, etc...) but for quick, simple and free space, check out Verene's offer. Register there using your guru username, and she'll make a folder for you which you can use as you want, whenever you want. You'll usually see your folder pop up within the day. Once you have your Progress Gallery, wherever it's hoster, share a link here.
You've pretty much "signed up" the moment you start sharing progress in the Workshop thread, but if you do it the abovementioned way, it will be a lot easier for the panel of judges to find and evaluate your entries in the aftermath.
THE DEADLINE FOR ALL ENTRIES, except Prose, IS THE 31st OF DECEMBER.
__________________________________________________ ___________________________________________
The prize pool and Awards rely solely on donations from the community.
Any and all donations are welcome, from Red Iris Flowers to Ecto. Please PM me here at Guru
if you're interested in donating something. Please consider donating towards an already existing Award
before coming up with one of your own. Chances are you will find one or more which you think are worthy of your donation.

The Wintersday Artist Extraordinaire Award is given to the artist who meets with 3 criterias; was menioned in the Winners section OR the Honourable Mention section of the Official Wintersday Contest, participated actively in this thread; both giving and receiving critique and generally being chatty, AND, finally, was a candidate for at least 1 of the other Awards (Harsh, eh? Well, believe me, there will be more than 1 candidate for this Award in the end).

Brand New Awards this Wintersday!

The Best Wintersday Caption prize is awarded whomever managed to screencap a scene, with or without their character, which best portrayed this Guild Wars holiday. To take an "in-game photograph", press Shift+PrtSc (print screen) and find the caption in the folder adress which then appears in your chat window.
No photomanipulation allowed, you may only crop your image to best frame your caption. To ensure that you've followed this rule, include information on where and when (and if applicable; how. If for example you've used a skill for a visual effect) your screencap was taken.
Best Wintersday Caption - [250 Wintergreen Candy Canes] (donor: KiyaKoreena)

The Honourable Judges
Judges are eligible for every award they're not judging themselves.
Tzu (Tzunedaine Fouil) [All Awards]
Zho (Zholn Cherub) [All Awards]
BlueXIV (The Black Earth) [undecided]
Verene (Farai Savitri) [undecided]
Ravensong (Blasius Acutus) [undecided]
BladeWind (Daniel Frozenwind) [undecided]
Artists and Their Progress!
This year I reccomend that EVERY entrant sets up an archive of sorts.
Photobucket, DeviantArt, ImageShack, Wordpress...... a place for you to store all progress pictures
and put down notes/journals. This is for the sake of the Judges, both here in the Workshop AND for
Arenanet and the official contest. It makes it much easier for them to root out fraud and identify hard
work and restless effort if you can refer to an archive of progress. Please, all serious entrants, set up
something of the sorts a.s.a.p. You don't *have* to share it with the Workshop right away,
if you're feeling a little sensitive about your ideas. Of course, it makes you a stronger competitor,
if you can and will share ideas and progress all the way!
Thanks to Verene, the Workshop Participants have their own place to store progress! Just
Register Here! and Verene will add a folder
for your personal use. Please register with your Guru username!
Tzu's Little Helpers!
I always need a helping hand, and I'll gladly accept any and all offers I get!
Currently though, these positions need to be filled, a.s.a.p!
☆ Gingerbread Guardians - moderates the thread, ensuring that people never lose their motivation or inspiration,
and that the rest of Tzu's helpers (not to mention, if not especially, Tzu herself) do their job.
-Verene
☆ Thawers of Frozen Ectoplasm - a.k.a donors, of items, services, gold and the likes!
- Deatgs Corrupter [X]
- Hailfall
- BlueXIV
- Tzu [X]
- Crucist Ovv [X]
- Baibai
- Perynne
- Ravensong
- Charlie Dayman
- YunSooJin [X]
- KiyaKoreena
- Morag D [X]
- Avatar Of The Element
- Evangelin [X]
☆ Pious Snowmen - co-organizers of every event, positions include Judges and Party Organizers for now.
- Miss Temptress
- Minami Kaori
Because of the holidays the Workshop Party will probably be held either 1-2 weeks before Christmas, or 1-2 weeks after.
It will be 1 day only, but last all day so that everyone has a chance to show up. Instead of confining ourselves to the limits
of [ZEN]'s Guild Hall, we will probably pick an outpost and a district and party there instead. The party will include a couple
of minigames and contests, and is open to every participant of the Workshop, regardless of how and how much they've contributed.
Most of the Awards will be handed out during the Workshop Party.
- Tzu [Host of Workshop Party]
- Miss Temptress [Chief Organizer of Workshop Party]
- Minami Kaori [Co-Organizer of Workshop Party]
Want to help organize the party? PM me!
