FuturePoly Digital Arts Workshop
Hi, everyone. I thought this forum might be the best place to post this info (which was also just posted on the official web site):
Quote:
Digital Arts Workshop with ArenaNet Artists
Witness the creation of a gallery's worth of art—in real time! FuturePoly's Digital Arts Workshop is a fascinating 5-hour live art demonstration featuring some of the gaming industry's top talent. In this interactive workshop, ArenaNet artists Daniel Dociu, Kekai Kotaki, Matthew Barrett, and more will discuss their technique and create beautiful pieces of digital art, from sketch to completion. A portion of every ticket sale goes to the amazing charity Child's Play.
The Digital Arts Workshop takes place on Saturday, January 23rd at Bellevue College's Paccar Auditorium in Bellevue, WA. To register or learn more, visit the FuturePoly website.

Awesome! Too bad I live across the country (and I'm not a digital artist).
By the way, it's sold out. :P

I wish there was a live broadcast (VIA Internet)... I would pay money for it if I had to.
BTW the tickets are all sold out.

I just want to clarify that this workshop is not an ArenaNet event. It is an event that is run independently of ArenaNet by artists who work at ArenaNet (and there is at least one artist there who doesn't work at ArenaNet). We just thought that fans might be interested in seeing what our artists are up to outside of work.

Thanks for posting the link. I'm sure everyone appreciates you posting it. The events off topic talk was partially my fault, but do have to realize that there are a big amount of players in the Midwest, especially around Chicago, and one event (GENCON) is not enough for us. A lot of us in this area would really love to have more events come to us, as the West Coast just gets spoiled.

Gosh, that event closed quickly. I could have driven there from Portland.

I hate being ignorant and honestly, I don't know of any conventions around Chicago (except ACEN which you showed me, Slayer)...

If we had the budget to hold ArenaNet / Guild Wars events all over the country, I would definitely love to do it. But the reality of business is that we need to strategically pick and choose where to go.
But for these artists, it is a little different. They're teaching art courses part time, and that's something that maybe works better in-person/local than remote.

ACen! <3
There are a lot of smaller cons around Chicago, but most of them are sci-fi/anime/gaming/general geek cons (Capricon, DucKon, WindyCon, Pokettokon in Peoria, Geek.Kon in Madison, Cyphan which is starting up this summer, etc); the big ones are ACen, which is just anime, Gencon, which is in Indiana (and one of these years I'm going to make it there), and Wizard World/Chicago Comic-Con, which has been going sharply downhill the past few years.
(also, I will be all for some sort of mini GWG meetup at ACen, since there's at least three of us that will likely be there, though I work the entire con)
