Hey guys~
I'm terribly sorry if this kind of topic is against the rules, but I have no idea how much the going rate is for art in Guild Wars... I've done commissions for money of course (and they usually go for about 10$-15$) but I'm not quite sure what that would translate to in Guild wars money. So... you be the judge. I only have a few examples now (I'll probably open up my commission topic once I get a price and some examples done) but hopefully you'll get the idea.



(the coloring for the paragon's a bit messy though... but my comissions always seem to be a lot neater than my personal works)

This style reminds me of concept art. Usually concepts are rough and bleak, only giving ideas to lean towards for future development.

I wouldn't go above 10-15$ an image until you can improve the style to appear cleaner &/or with more details. In which case, you could then probably bump up to 20-25$.

You'll have to improve your line art and shades with way more details before you hit the 50 mark. I hope that helps.

You can charge whatever you like, really. There are some art geeks that will happily pay what the artist is asking, even if that goes into several hundred platinum. Those are the really really detailed high end stuff though. Anyway, a generally fair way of pricing your art is to work out how much money you would earn playing GW and multiply that by the number of hours the art takes. That way the customer is compensating for the money you would have gotten otherwise. Note that you might want to disregard this model completely; if you don't get much cash from your ingame activities you'll probably be charging too little, likewise if you're a hardcore power trader you're likely to be overcharging. You can look at the other commission threads and see what they charge and make a comparison depending on the relative quality of your art if you prefer.

Love the style. But yea, prices on art range from 10k to numerous ectos/zkeys. Most people seem to have a few different sizes/styles of art for various prices, I'd suggest trying a few out and you can always modify your prices if you decide they're too high/low.
I would guess about 20-50k on your examples. The work on the characters is nice, good styles, well colored. But there's no background or extras, and could maybe use some more detail. I suggest getting a couple more price guesses though, because I try not to buy art. :P (Its hard sometimes, lots of pretty stuff!)

I mostly agree with Lillium. Prices can very widely vary (I've gotten from 10k till 70e for my drawings ) and it really depends on what style you use and how much time it took etc.

The drawings I did for 15k are a bit like yours only they weren't coloured and they were a bit more messy. So I think for the current exaples, a price of 20-25k would be fair. If you sharpen it a bit more up, maybe some more active stances, throw in some weaponry, you could ask for ~50k.

This as a guideline..!

Because, like Marty said, you can charge whatever you want to draw for. There is probably someone who wants to pay it for it. I posted my opinion about this in another thread, I'll quote it here:

Remember that when you sell artwork of any kind, you need to pay yourself a decent wage for your time. My mother does needlework that she is always selling for very little over the cost of materials because "people won't pay more" according to her. My sister on the other hand has a nice business going crocheting special order baby clothes.

The difference seems to be, as Tommy's said, whether the work is done for you or for a commission. When people "special order" artwork they are willing to pay a decent price.

I've done commissions and still got no idea on how to price mine but I think the wonderful insights in this thread are pointing you to the right direction.

I really like the first one but they both look great! Good luck in your commissions.

An artist always has a certain style when it comes to drawing, not everything has to end up in being super realistic.

There is always alot of time being consumed for making something.

You can try looking around what others ask for the commissions and then price for something that sounds for you fairly reasonable.

Also, is it pretty much just standard to list some examples of styles and qualities (sketch, lined flat color, no line painting, ect) and have people offer however much they feel is fair?

...or is it just dependent on how much time you spend on it once it's completed? I'm sure you can do it both ways, but I'd like to stick to whatever the GW commusnity is familiar with. :P

What would be best in my opinion, is have a set price for each style. I assume all pictures take up about the same amount of time, some a bit more some a bit less but that compensates. I always suggest you come to an agreement on a price at first. Besides that its nice to have some examples when you start. I didnt have any when I first started, which I found a big loss. But if you want to have an example, take a look in my newly updated commission thread or in Skaia's.

I've seen a good range of the three, most commonly a flat-line rate per style selection and feature. Having us offer what we feel is fair is a bit of a slippery slope. You'll get an expansive range of offers, those being particularly lower than you might like, and those paying considerably more. I might suggest you pick a standard rate and allow the option for tips, as many commissioners do tip.
My personal appraisal would be:
Sketches: 20k
Color: 50k
Roughly, with the current market. It's in favor of the artists.
My most important suggestion is, if/when you do set up a commission thread, make sure to set certain ground rules so you don't get overrun. We're art wh0res <lol censor> here, we feed on creative talents. Limit yourself to a small number, close requests, and open them when you feel comfortable to handle more.

Most of the time, artists will price their art based on the time it takes them to create it. But the quality does make a difference. For example: if it takes you lets say two full days to create one of your pieces, you could then probably charge close to 50$ (or more). However, because the quality isn't that great compared to other artist's standards, viewers may think otherwise.

You have to find a mutual agreement between you and the viewers. That'll take your effort to expose your art and see how many people bite. If you start to get a lot of commissions, try raising the price and see what happens.

This is kind of what I did with my full body commissions in the past. Of course you reserve the right to decline an offer if it's really unreasonable.

But in my case, I am still learning how to draw and there's no consistency in my end results. So setting a fixed price was nearly impossible for me.
