That is something I can deffinatly do. I tried to do that on the pumpkin that's pretty much touching MKT, but i wasnt sure if it was obvious enough. It was a few days ago, and after a while i forgot that i tried it xD
Kiya, I tried adding some texture to the vines and it looked pretty good, but i tried doing it to the pumpkins and... well... :x
i think it's something i'd just have to practice at to get well, but I don't exactly have enough time to do that :x So i might scrap that just to keep everything balanced (instead of texturized leaves but not pumpkins). We... we can say thats the style im going for O.O
So, the good news is im almost finished ive got a little bit to do for a few minutes and im gunna upload what should be my last WiP. Ive gotta work but ill take in feedback when i get home, touch things up tonight and tomorrow night and I should be finished ^^

Death what kind of program are you working in? If photoshop maybe add a layer with monochromatic noise and set it to burn or dodge plus select segments with the lasso tool and use the warp tool to bend it a bit.
Off to the front yard to take piccies! And oh yes, there will be poses. Yay for digital cameras and video function!

Decided to write up Thorn's death scene:
How did it come to this? I bet he's thinking that.
Tried for a "short, detailed, but loose" kind of death scene. Just an fyi - the sharp pain in the back of his head is due to getting knocked out. Curious if anyone can guess what the pressure holding Thorn down is at the end.
With this written up, there's about just 3 more little scenes I need to write up when I finish the aftermath of Bruce's death.

oooh, that does sound much better!
The death scene is very, very vivid and so sad, even though he did go crazy

It's about 11k words right now without the battle scenes. I usually don't go for chapters and just use * * * to denote a scene break, but since it's so long, I think using chapters would make it easier for people not wanting to read it in one go online (I'm planning on posting on my guild site and keeping it on my blog even after the gw & guru contest).
Even though it's so long, I absolutely LOVE writing this story, because I'm really getting to know my characters (and their story makes me cry... I literally tear up in public when scenes play out in my mind). If there was a restriction on length for the contest, I probably would have written this just for myself (because I really write for me since I know not everyone will like my tales) and my guild and not have turned anything in for the contest (not because I can't write short stories or come up with a different idea, but just because my muse wanted these particular characters for the moment and I have to go where she takes me)
With that said, I do already have an idea for a Wintersday short story that's a spin off of a minor character in this one
edit: i'm guessing the pressure is a

K so, before I checked this thread I already made a few changes, but seeing as the feedback from Charlie has some obvious points I should change, I'm going to get back to work again, though I'll be sharing some new progress since the last time:
*note: I already planned to add a third wanted poster when I started it out, but I thought I'd first focus on the rest. The wanted posted is for a tengu boss, in knowing that they are an enemy of MKT.

You could just photoshop them out with content-aware or something? Other than that, I really would like to see it burning, since I cannot really make an effigy of what I'm seeing right now...

@ Shady. How about running some thin metal wire/cable through and rigging the ends onto spikes in the ground? Like a tent.
---------
Didn't take enough pics and sun angle wasn't quite working. I have enough shots that if I HAVE to I can use those, but going to see if we can do it again tomorrow. Might do some indoor ones too. Sorry video clips arent ready for uploading yet, but here are a few of the stills.

Like dutch said you could use content-aware and get something like this =D (its nowhere near perfect though)
I can't think of a physical way to do it besides maybe making the feet heavy or putting weights on them to keep him down. :P or what kiya said.

Noes, I wrote a long post of feedback for you, Shy Guy... D: I need to go and write it all over again...
quick summary:
1. make it look less artificial, change the edges to look a bit less 'the same'.
2. add some decorations to the background, example: a cobweb-line with a spider somewhere
3. make sure your picture has the same lighting, your wood looks to have a different lighting than your poster
That's what I remember so far, hope you can atleast change something, just don't be shy! You'll learn from everything that you do. Also, take a step back, ask yourself: is there something missing, don't be afraid to be a critic of your own work, it helps!

OMG, this is absolutely amazing! I love how you did the mane and the overall piece is so impressive!
For a support, what about like:
(or http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Charr_Staff.jpg if the img isn't showing)
where you can pretend the supporting stick is actually like that staff in the pic (without the skull though since that might be a little hard to do at last minute)? Kinda like hiding the support in plain sight sort of thing?
edit: @stouda, the mist/fog you added at the bottom was a great addition! Congrats on getting done!

@Thistle: You and your 11k words make my currently 1.3k words for my entry so tiny. ._.
Then again, I never intended to make this work too big.
As to who it was - your close, though there's a more specific bit. Think... large... ax.
@Dutch: I suggest showing a little more of the wanted poster. If you didn't tell me in game that you were adding that, and the bit at the bottom, I wouldn't be able to tell that was a tengu.
In order to show things, I'd have the MKT poster a little more to the right, rather than completely centered Or have the wanted poster sticking out of the right side. You could also just show more of the poster though.
@Shady: The tail seems small, so you could probably add onto that a bit in order to create a better balance.
You can also go somewhat in the way of what Kiya said. Or, if you have some, thin metal lining on the side that's too light - or in the feet to keep it stable. Even stones in the feet would work, if they're heavy enough.
Oh, and when you burn it, be sure to have both a video recorder and a camera for still pictures.

I'm just hoping Anet will open any written work.
If not, then I gotta start planning out a video idea for Wintersday, because that's the only other thing I'd be able to do really. My art skills need a year's worth of improving before I could get a slim chance at comparing to the folks here, let alone everyone else in the contest.

lol, I'd probably do some kind of gingerbread house wintersday scene and just hope that the hubby doesn't eat it when i'm not looking
I hope they'll give back some kind of confirmation with the submission like "thanks for your literature art, we'll accept it" or "no, literature is not art, go away" so we're not stuck wondering
