Starting to add the "skin" layer now. Almost completely done with the lower left leg xD. This is a process I have to repeat A LOT before the sculpture is done. Maybe I'll invite a friend over. D:
In case you're curious about the background, here's what in it:
two hot glue guns of different calibers, as well as a bag of ammo for both
A pad of newsprint for setting the hot glue guns down on and making structure (and drawing of course! )
Scissors
Twine
Work gloves
My "binder-o-effigy" which is full of reference pictures
extension cords
A wheelbarrow with a bale of hay. I plan on using it to decorate the area and add more support to the sculpture. It's getting kind of windy out~!
Not pictured:
trash bag
Bag-o-twigs
Trash can -o- twigs
@Odinius: Oh nice! Very clean looking. I hope you can finish it up in time; I'd love to see what you've envisioned for it.
@Thistle Xandra: Don't worry, I'll post up a video!
@Oh_Frustration: Looks like a good start! What's it going to look like in the end?
@Minami: Sorry to hear about that. I hope you feel better soon

Arghghgh I have been neglecting my picture for a long time @__@ and the deadline is near! I hate contests.. >___>!!! >:\! I should be asleep but I'm hungryyy ; _ ; ""
lol gwens floating >W> my friend said to make her stand on books @__@ or skulls : OOO maybe skulls... <3
So, I drew the spirit with only aqua blue, black and white plus the orange eye, and I plan on adding some light green to make the final colour somewhat turquoise. The contrast between black, white and the blue is much greater in reality, and the actual picture lacks the noise >_<' (E: Which may be caused by the ISO 800 setting I forgot to change to 100 when taking the pic O.o)
@ Marshmallow, I agree with Thistle. Charr skulls for the win :3 Looking adorable
@ Shady, good progress! Tighten the end of the left (our right) arm a bit. Are you gonna add some kinda claws too? Keep up the great work
@ Minami, sorry to hear that...
More edit: What makes me wonder is that why don't they accept entries from Quebec? Also, I'm European and only 17 so I have to take additional trouble sending my work Darn I wish I was born in '92!

Loving the soft brush work Marsh! Looks adorable. Btw, the fire under the kettle is a bit weak, perhabs make it a bit stronger. And Charr skulls are fun, or just pumpkins <3 Moar pumpkins >
@ Oh frustration: Looking good, are you actually drawing that on chalk?
And wooh I see Zidane888 checking this thread. What kind of epicness will he have to show us this year!
Nope, not chalk, just dull coloured pencils and horrible ISO settings on my camera It looks like chalk, true... I should have used ISO 100 with the flash instead of ISO 800 and flash. It's so noisy now.
@Shady tradesman: now you need a 'No deer allowed' sign in the background Good luck filling all that surface area with twigs
First of all, on the Gwen with charr skulls idea. I throw my full support behind that plan. The macabre touch juxtapositioned with Gwen's cuteness would be absolutely amazing.
I would make a sign, but I'm trying to spend all my time on the actual effigy structure. D:
@ Oh frustration: Awesome! I love working on black media. You've really got an awesome drawing going there!
well i thought id post a pic i did in gimp. i know its not the greatest and it has its flaws, but im still pretty new to digital art and dont really know how to do much yet. i've seen all the amazing art in this thread and im really hoping you guys can give me some tips or CC to help me improve. :]
If I was you, Outcast, I'd define the pumpkin head further, like, make its edges more visible, and also define the guy's mouth and eye edges more. Now it lacks a little bit of contrast on the head. Other than that it looks very nice and I'm looking forward to your progress

Because Quebec, and the state of Rhode Island in the USA, have very stringent regulations on contests that require companies to jump through many legal hoops. I know in Rhode Island they have to fill out a boatload of legal paperwork and assign a monetary value to the prize (probably so the state can tax the winner if a local person) which is ridiculous with virtual world prizes. So ArenaNet chooses not to offer the contests in those areas. It's why my Location mentions that problem.

@ Oh_Frustration: very nice! I thought you were doing chalk, too, because I'm apparently so much of an art newb that I didn't know you could do pencils on black paper. I really like the look
@Outcast: I wouldn't have guessed you're new in digital art since your pic looks really nice (digital art seriously amazes me!). I really like how you made the the letters in the mouth, very clever The overall look is great!
@ Darcy & Oh_frustation: I hadn't realized rules were so complicated for contests until I read the notes on the site. In the FAQ , there's something else on how Canada has to answer a math question o_O
@Najade: Very cool and I like your coloring style on the trees. Reminds me alot like Bob Ross on TV who does alot of his painting with the edge of a metal tool (can't think of name off hand, doh).
@ Minami: I don't know how I missed you mentioning your grandma I'm so sorry for your loss <<Comfort hugs>>
Thistle - Thats a great idea O__O!! Thank youu -hug-!!
Oh Frustration - Oh myyy I love the details on the rittt <333 and the moon looks awesome :Q
Outcast - Ouu~ I agree with what Frustration said c: It's a bit hard to read the 'Happy Halloween' You could try lowering the opacity on the glowy-ness of the eyes/mouth? ( D': Idk if you can do that with gimp)
Najade - Ohhhh.. That looks goood # O#!! The bottom of the tree (trunk? >W>) of the one next to the necro looks a bit flat o: Maybe add something there? or round off the edges of the tree? xD" idkidkD|!!
Small status update: I decided to scrap my artwork, since I'm pretty much getting no where as I try to improve my drawing skills back to where they were before I stopped drawing. I won't be able to make the deadline with a halfway done work, so I'll just be working on the story.
Wondering though... if literature works can get rewards in the non-literature categories.

So in short; it's because Quebec wants to prove it's different. It's the angsty teenager of the Canadian provines essentially. |
In medium; Quebec has a set series of laws and restrictions that apply to what does and does not qualify as a contest, certain minimums that have to be met, and a bunch of random jargon dictated by the Regie des Loteries et Courses du Quebec (Rules for Lotteries and Contests in Quebec).
In long;
The rules of a publicity contest must be accessible to the public and must include as a minimum:
·The conditions for entering the contest
·The places where the public must deposit or send the contest entry forms
·The deadline for entering the contest
·A description of the method of awarding the prizes
·The place, date and time the prizewinner will be named
·The media used to inform the winners of the prizes won
·The place, date and deadline for claiming prizes, or where applicable, whether the prizes will be delivered to the winner
·The information about how a jury will select the winners
·The nature of the skill-testing requirement that a winner has to satisfy in order to claim his prize
·A person for whom a publicity contest is carried on shall furnish security to the board where:
1)He has a head office or place of business in Quebec declared in accordance with the laws of Quebec
2)He has not been convicted of an offence against the Act or these Rules in that year precede the date of the launching of the publicity contest
3)That the value of a prize offered to Quebec residents is more than $ 100
From the canadian gaming agency
We also have to complete a very simple math question to prove that we aren't automated contest entry bots essentially... maybe to prove you're competent enough to win? I dont know, it's very unncessary...
the questions usually end up being like 2x3-1 = ? (5) so theres really no point to them.
Flippin' hell, this file is monstrous. Took this past weekend easy - needed a short break from doing anything art related. Added in a few of the last details: lighting and that display case sort of thing. I still need to add the extra lighting to give it sort of a "hazy" feeling to it. But that will come in on the next and final step to the piece.
And now comes the hard part. Let's hope I can finish all this in time. I'll try to get back to the critiques for all the recent subs and the sort later on. Don't quite have the time to sit down and read all the stories and analyze all the drawings/paintings

Najade, really like how you use your custom brushes! At least I assume you use them The light on the trees looks quite random though, try to make the sides darker or the center darker depending on where the light is coming from :3
Charliee.. I really liked the way you've drawn the girls. But they dont at all fit the scenery though >: ( While they have a very cool painty style, the hallway is almost real. The styles clash a bit. Also the way the light is on their feet suggests that the light is like above them, which doesnt suggest such shadows (unless they have big backpacks ) Perhabs saturn the girls a bit to make them fit better in the picture? think the colour of them is just a tat bit too strong.
Just tell me your secret. How do you draw lines so straight. Those wooden plints you've drawn looks like crazily real. The way you've put detail in those things is just simply amazing. <3
So finaly I've been able to draw some again, and luckily will have the next 3 days. Got exams coming up from 26th of October, so want to finish it quickly so I can start studying.
Here is some progress, starting refining the Mad King a bit. Decided that if time allows me to make the Ghosthouse in the back realistic instead of with the black outlines like it has in GW. But only if time allows it, so we'll see. Still want to add some fun details in it aswell.
