I know exactly how you feel Minami. Taking a break does help. Can't wait to see more from you.

And looking good Charlie. I agree, her hair does look a little big.

Udpate:
Fixed the anatomy stuff as suggested by Charliepai (still not sure about the leg part...but I can paint over any fixes at the end hopefully). Also added some rough shading:

And no, the raven is not standing on the candle lol. I'll add the candlelight later. :P

Got the skin tone to where I want it to be, and jumped ahead and fixed her hair. I'm happy with her expression, and I think it'll fit right in with the background later on. Now I can start on the twin's face, or work on this one's clothing.

This will probably be the last update for the weekend, or at least until late Sunday - need to finish a CG class project that I really don't want to do...

@Raven: Is she seated on the table, or just leaning against it? Her right leg is still a bit long at the thigh. Depending if she's either seated or standing, the length of the legs will differ. The outline I made was more for an upright stance, but it looks like you want more of a seated pose.

If you want a seated position, you can just bring up her right leg to the length in my outline. However, you'll have to adjust her left to more of a 90 degree angle that's pointing out at the knee towards the viewer.

I must say I liked her previous hair better, a bit wild and rough.

Also I'm missing any form of eyelashes. Now kids have smaller ones (I guess never really checked xd) but I would add a bit of them. Besides that, it looks like her eyes should be just a tat bit lower. She gets a bit of a long face this way.

I actually added eyelashes really early on, but I felt that it made her "too" pretty. Almost like she was wearing heavy make-up which made her look more like an adult than child.

And about the face, I'll probably push down the area on the lowest region of the shading around the eye. The bridge of her nose looks a bit broad to me now that I look at it.

Charlie, I think the top of her head is too tall, unless her massive brain power is going to kill us all. Oh wait.... discard what I just said if that is the idea and I totally missed it before. And lack of eyelashes makes her creepier.

------------

More progress done on MKT plushie (yeah, totally didn't get it finished earlier this week.) No pics yet because my husband took the camera to the range. I am 80% done it now though, just need to finish around the shoulders and collar and then minor adjustments.

Ravenhawk, I'm not sure yet, but I believe the candle will be the only lightsource?

If this is the case, I would take another look at her legs, I believe it will be all shadow. Because the light is coming from the back, and the table will take some away aswell. Also I think her face needs more dramatic lightning (specially near her nose). Tried to explain it a bit in the picture:

Also btw, I have no experience in colouring this way, but should you use more light on the cloths aswell? (Pardon me if you are just to get to that part Don't know where you are in your progression). Because you choose a different (darker) colour on the layer which you multiply, I think there should only be little difference in the colours of different textures. Can't say for sure though No experience on this part.

And @ Charlie.. Koreena is right Less hair, big head. And still imo, eyes should be lower Because imo for a kid those cheecks are good.

Lol, that's not really what I was going for. It's just more about the fact that little kids have enormous heads and have skull shaped differently from an adult's.

I guess I forgot to mention that I've been going by the proportions of the little girls from the movie. Here's a comparison to show why everything is placed the way it is.

I still think I need to drop down the shading around the bridge of the nose and corner of the eye-socket. Her nose is definitely a bit wide at the top.

Seriously, it's like balloon popping off a hose-pipe. But I guess the strange proportions will just add to the picture in the end.

I guess it matches more comparing to the girl from the movie because my half asian kids are more proportional. :-D I think her chin would need to be tucked down and in a bit then to get that much forehead shot, which I think movie girl is doing a little bit. Or make the brow area a bit wider/more skin viewable next to eyes by hair.

There's a definite downward tilt in her head. Though I'll be pushing that movement when I start adding the ending layers of shading and lighting.

Charlie - Uhm..yeah she's kind of both. I was thinking her left leg (the one near the candle) is kind of on top of the table while the other is standing/straight O_o

Tommy - Yeah I am not yet done with the lighting. Right now I just started detailing the stuff. I am gonna add more of the lighting/shading later

Progress updatre- everything is still bound to change since I am just painting over everything atm. In other words, this is the part where I am totally winging it lol.

I might finish the entire thing first then post it for critiques. I will then paint over the corrections once everything is merged because working on so many layers makes it hard to correct stuff lol

Her face looks great, and I'm definitely liking the expression that she's wearing.

And after looking more into painting gray-scale, I'm now giving it a shot for this workshop. B&W pencil is definitely my forte, and I think it's a bit easier for my brain to grasp painting method in a monochrome scale and then moving to color. And after playing with colored layers, it actually gives it a kind of paint-wash feel which is awesome.

Still figuring out my own system of coloring with this technique. Much more fun working out your own steps than taking the same approach as another artist. You learn more and adds to your own own personal "flavor".

@Marsh: for a second, I thought the text said "tormented ladder". I thought you were going to make a DOA hardware set or something. Then I cleared my eyes and realized I can't read.

@Outcast: Nice thumbnail. Looks like it'll be a pretty playful piece

The dress is very easy to draw Charlie.. But somehow you manage to make it awesome! I need to use more textures I guess. Colours on the arm look good, perhabs a bit paler, but mostly I think its a bit big. Kids arms always look like one roundhousekick will make them fall off. This Gwen could actually beat me with armpushing..

She prefers to use mind-bullets. And I'll shave down the tickets-to-the-gun-show as you mentioned.

Thanks! Yeah I saved this critique in my notepad and I'll definitely come back to it alter.

Nice! Yeah at first I would paint flat colors and stuff. Now I try to "finish" the look in B.W first. It seems easier.

And I just noticed how the actual movie kids are also a wearing blue and white dress like Gwen. Adds to the creepiness of the entire thing. lol
