I'm thinking more and more about straying from 3D, Anet doesn't seem to like it much at all. However, since I've never done human figures and getting the anatomy right by drawing freehand would probably yield some results that would resemble a potted plant more closely than a human figure, I will probably still use 3D scenes and imagery setting up my picture.
But whatever, I don't know yet. I'll play around with some stuff and see what I feel like.
(Wasn't that a TOTAL artist moment? *lol*)
EDIT: I might change the subject too... What I originally chose is super complex and difficult to make... Bahh I dunno... *confused*

suddenly: riddiculous amounts of uni work! the only thing I've managed to do during my free time this past week is completely brainless things like titles in GW. <__>' Weekend coming up, I hope to be able to sit down with the costume then, and look properly through the updates in the workshop, etc. For now I'm just updating OP with new contestants, sorry about the delay. :'[

Should be able to just contact any general admin and request a name change. They are pretty good with that short of thing ever since it has become required to enter character names to log into gw.
Inde, JR, Kattar to name a few.

@stouda01: Wow! That is amazing! I can't wait to see what the rest of the background looks like, but my jaw dropped when I saw that hellhound - can't wait to see it in its finished state!
Here's my third embarrassing little foray into the world of semi-freehand art. . Decided to drop my original concept of having MKT hunched over the table carving out his head and go for something a little simpler, but hopefully more thematic and epic.
I don't think I'll win any contests (hope I do!) but I'm more interested in the practice at this point. I'm just trying to block MKT out, then I'll do a little more detail work and try to get him to look better. Then after that I'll work on the environmental stuff for the background since I know I can actually do those to a certain extent. >_< Drawing characters is annoying, I much prefer cloudy vistas and space scenes.

@Stroud ~ thats looking really good , cant wait to see more
@Kiya, oh I didn't realise. Anytime I tried to dye things it has never come out even or dark enough, does leaving it in longer than the instructions say help at all?
@ Raven ~ ty, I love her expression, and her figure is nice. Not sure about the way she is holding the knife - I tried it, it is very uncomfortable. The glass is good , fill it with wine :P
@Minami ~ I think you could do with a drink Why not stay with what you enjoy doing? Anet have weird criteria for some of their winners...
@Tzu ~ uni work is more important, and any delays in updates wont stop anyone from developing their artworks.
But, oh dear, this Sunday is ITLAPD, don't you have to put on your eyepatch and parrot and go dance a hornpipe in the street? There will be no time for your costume.....
@Operative ~ looking good so far

I left in in for an hour an a half (package said 30-60 minutes). Going to try again this weekend with different brands of dye and cheesecloth. *Cross fingers* If it turns out purple I will scream.
The purple cheesecloth (which looks black when wet, darn it) is now being used as the beginning layers for the MKT headpiece. Did the first couple layers yesterday. http://hw2010.kirins.net I think I will end up doing paper mache clay over it still but the cheesecloth should make a good base.
Going to try getting more of the plushie done today (and start my second Minion, been putting that off too long). If I stop lazing around I should be able to get it at least 80% done.
---------
@ Operative. I think his belt centerpiece needs to be much bigger and the angle it is sitting at looks wrong. Really liking how his chest piece looks so far!
----------
For after workshop party did we want to hold it in an open town or in a GH? If the latter I can volunteer my mule guild hall, can guest about 75-80 people (and change it to Isle of the Dead or Corrupted Isle if requested).

All righty... so....
Just redesigned my scene, and instead of always showing you guys the rendered test, I decided to take a screenshot and show you what the 3D scene interface of the program looks like when I'm looking through my posing camera, making sure nothing intersects with each other, how the basic lighting looks from another angle, etc.
Of course I had to block out certain parts of the base model, since I already put texture on her.
The skeletons arms belong to full figured skeletons, which has every single bone correctly in its body. Let me tell you it's a pain in the ass to make all those invisible, for 4 skeletons no less.
Once I do test renders, I will be looking through my render cam, which I set up to look at my scene exactly how I want it. Then I render every item separately and save them as .png files. THat way I can put them together as layers in photoshop, and still make minor corrections, blurs, etc to each item, without affecting the rest of the picture.
Ok, enough talk now :P
Here's my screenshot. More to come as I work on it.
EDIT:
I took a screenie from the render angle too. This is the final camera angle look.
Take note, it looks crappy because it's just the scene in the program, not a finalized render.
Also, I haven't tweaked the material settings yet.

To those who are drawing stuff for the contest, here is a site from where I learned a lot about different kind of things (no, it's not 3D... it's any kind of painting).
Very useful to browse through the tutorial section.

Great link Minami! ^^ Really some cool stuff in there.
Just one question that oftenly pops up, and does so again!
How do they go from black and white to colour? I mean, they first go colour it in black and white in full detail just to paint over it again? And they look so similar! Is there some sort of way to put a layer on the black and white to make it coloured?

Could you explain a little further, I'm not good in seeing problems in my drawings, even if they had some bad ones. Thanks

@Oh_Frustration: I think he might mean the features are a bit lacking in definition, at least to me. The nose and lips especially for instance. From this perspective, from what we see of the ear and the side of the face, it seems like the nose and the lips should be more defined, more standout-ish from the face. I don't mean to criticize at all, I certainly don't think I could do so well drawing anything freehand like that, just I think that might be what USK is talking about.
Here's my 4th WIP. I sort of got the stuff done on MKT's body, so I just need to go back and detail it once I have the scene set. Other than that I added my light source and a little bit of the environmental stuff that I wanted back there. Still needs a lot of work, but.. meh, it's a work in progress.

Oh, yeah. In general the whole character needs a bit of cleaning up and when doing that I could add a bit of detail to her face. I have just been drawing nothing for a long time, and motorcycles when I last drew something intentionally (not doodling around, but trying to make and image).
And constructive criticism is more than welcome at all times
Liking your WIP, are you gonna add more detail to his body? The pose is nice and sure fits the character!
@ Lil Thing, my vote goes to Orange, for the sake of Halloween
