I'll hopefully get building a base for mine tonight, I'll take picture or two along the way and throw them on a flickr feed or something before I quit for the night.

Anyone have suggestions for dying cheesecloth? Using the black Rit dye just ended up a really dark purpley charcoal color. Followed the directions for temperature, stirring, salt, more than enough time, and didn't over rise after. Was thinking of trying dunking it in calligraphy ink next. Pic is of it compared to the corduroy with flash on. Or am I just being too picky?

I remembered I had 2 packages of cheesecloth leftover from making ghosts last Halloween. So I simmered a big ol' pot of hot water, and added a cup of salt, a tablespoon of fabric detergent, and a package of Rit dye. It took only 1 pkg of black dye for the 6 yds of cheesecloth I had on hand, and I'm sure it would have dyed twice that. Remember to keep rinsing the cheesecloth until the water runs clear (You can just throw it in the washing machine a bunch of times.) No need to pre-wet the cheesecloth before dyeing, as irregularity in the color will happily add to the distressed look!

Thats pretty much what I did the first time, minus the detergent. But it didn't come out black. Think it's possible the brand I bought was treated with something that stopped it from dying correctly? Did yours come out BLACK black or just mostly black/dark purple?

I just copied and pasted from google. But if find a Q&A on dying cheese cloth, youtube might even help.

I thought that paragraph looked a bit familiar.....
Meh, time for sleep. Going to buy different brands of dye and cheesecloth and see if that fixes the issue.

Drew some more yesterday and got the right-hand side of the image pretty much finished. I'm still wondering about if I should add more bling to her skirt or not.
Anyway, here's my progress.

Wow, there is so much to catch up on in this thread.
I can't see anything on raven's link, is it just me or is there nothing there yet?
Thanks for sharing that Minami, they are wonderful pics, my daughter now wants to dye her hair flame coloured (I have told her its not possible in RL)

I confess I have no idea what a tablet pen is, but can't you beg, borrow or steal one? We want art!

@ Penguin So sorry to hear about your relationship, Hope it works out.
That picture is excellent, I love the colours. seems perfect just as it is. I would like a scythe that colour ^^

Kiya, wouldn't it be easier to just buy black cheescloth?

Its looking good, I like the skirt as it is. Its probably my pc but I am finding it hard to see the line of her back, does it curve?

Well it should curve a little. The ritualist needs a little bit of cleaning up, I'll do that when I have finished with the rest of the elements (the skeleton and the blue haze, etc.).

@ Aeronwen. It would be easier, but so much more expensive (4.50 for 6 yards white, 6.99/yard black) and I am trying to keep the costs down.

Looking great Penguin! Sorry about the relationship..It might suck now but you'll be glad it ended later on . Either way, I'm sure things will get better drawing is a nice outlet to keep you busy.
Oh Frustration - Looking good! I agree that the back should arc a little bit. I also think her eyes seem a little too big for that angle but I am no anatomy expert >_<"
@stouda01 - Wow!
@Aeronwen - I checked the link and it's fine but since you're a sweetie I'll give you a direct link =P. I got a different idea so I will remove the chalice/glass and make her hold something else . Will resume Sunday hopefully:

About her eyes I'll say that she has an awful lot of makeup. The actual white area in her eyes isn't very large.
There actually is an extra line on the right of her back. Her skeleton would look like this: and I have to clean her waist up a bit. Thanks for commenting
Liking your scetch a lot as well, makes me wonder why I never draw actual in-game armor set arts in my pics unless I really want to depict the armor set itself...
