Adding the 8"x10" signed print from my Halloween 2009 prize into the pool. I will pay for the shipping from me to whoever wins it. Tzu, you can decide on what prize pack to add it to.
Time to start sorting through mules and see what in-game items/funds I can donate.

the Espadon = Penguin thing was my fault. For some reason I must've mistaken his name for Penguins up there.
Just to clarify, the Pure Evil winner doesn't have to literally scare the judges, but it needs to be a quality piece of art (foremost) with an evil twist. It could be grotesque, creepy, cruel, but also gothic or evil in an artistic sense. A beautiful painting of Dhuum harvesting souls could be a solid candidate, even if it doesn't make us jump in our seats. Of course, if you do give us Guild Wars related nightmares, bonus points to you!
About the submission of several entries: I'm going to allow a maximum of 2 entries per person, and they can distribute them between categories as they wish. You don't have to aim toward a particular award though, or even make art from two different categories of art; if you have 2 good ideas you want to use, then use them. A participant can not win more than one award, but this has been a norm in the previous workshops as well, even if we didn't mention it. I just think it's fairly obvious that we avoid that.
As mentioned earlier: if we get enough writers I will make a dedicated award for them. If not, know that a good piece of literature has an equal chance to win as a beautiful painting, with the current judges.
That's an awesome donation, Kiya! X3 I will have to think about where to put it though... it might take a couple of days, so I have time to consider any other incoming donations as well. Then, the winner of the signed print should contact you, and only you, so there's always just a single person the winner has to provide his personal information to.

Progress for today, plushie head done. Mad King plush will be a mainly fleece creation. Which photographed rather oddly with the flash on.

I added a link to mine, just made myself a new photobucket cuz I couldn't find my old one. First picture is already up, trying to add another, but my school's internet isn't cooperating. I'd like if I could get some comments on it before I launch into it, particularly about proportions and anatomy (especially the hands).

@ Zacchius. Good start! The two things that struck me as needing tweaking were his lower face on the left side and the arm on the right side of the page.
My opinion is that arm needs to be widened just a smudge and lowered.

Looks great already Kiya, I envy your perfect seams! X3 The fold on the chin stick out a bit though, but I really think that's just the angle. looking forward to seeing more of your project. ^^
Zacchius, I agree with Kiya's critique, but I also notice the thighs might be a little too short. If you elongate them a bit it should become more obvious which angle they are in as well. Looks good so far though, I like his hands. How do you plan to continue? Will it be a black & white piece, or are you going to add colour to it?
I added my own Progress Gallery as well, although for now it's mostly filled with reference images. I started on the vambraces today:
Straps and glove is in the making, but first I think I need to straighten out those silver lines. They're a bit wonky -_-'. I really want to go heavy with the weathering, to make them look really worn, but I don't know for sure. I suppose I should start out carefully. Oh, er, sorry about the crap quality of the picture btw. My webcam is the only thing that works >.<

WooT, <3 this thread and im glad you are doing it again Tzu ... though im pretty amazed you donated all the prizes ... i wanted to notify you that ill be handing out a prize just like last year, it wont be the biggest ever but ill scrape together what I can miss ... the topic of the prize, just like last year, will be "In the spirit of halloween", based upon all the entries minus winners, I will personally pick the work of art that i find most 'in the spirit of halloween' (last year this was a starting artist that decorated their guild hall with texmod, not the best work of art ever/not to bad either, but totally 'in the spirit of halloween') ... @Tzu, if you would like to add this to the list of 'prizes' to be won, seeing you have allot of prizes allready and are bound to receive more donations, i'm willing to accept more judges for this prize, given they donate towards the prize ...
I will enter the competition myself aswell, just have some brainstorming to do and i allready feel like im lagging behind :P
Name: Arghore
Art Form: Digital Drawing (though i might start on paper)
Idea: something original that migth win me something
Progress Gallery: I will set something up shortly
Artbook Award: [-], i would so want a full book, but i have one with 2 'graphs' so im gonna go with collecting them myself ...
Official Contest: [x]
Workshop Awards: [x]

@Kiya: Haha, that's awesome. Spot on with the face.
@Zacchius: Nice idea. I second Kiya in that his arms should be further off from his sides. At the moment, his posture is very upright and the arm positioning seems a bit static. Maybe add a slight forward lean in the upper body as well to make the stance seem a bit more natural.
@Tzu: I can only guess that you're doing a cosplay of Air. Looking forward to seeing it come about - your costumes are always awesome.

Thanks for the critique so far. I'll make the suggested changes.
@Tzu I *might* try to color it digitally, I don't have a tablet or anything so I don't know how well that'll work. And I've never done digital art before, so it's gonna be a stab in the dark for me if I do decide to do it. I don't have any physical color supplies with me, either, though I guess a trip to Target would remedy that. If the digital color doesn't pan out, it'll probably be black and white or maybe colored pencil, I don't think I could use paint. On a related note, the armor looks good so far. How are you doing it? Is it an etching? Paint? If you're applying something to a surface, perhaps a stencil could help with the wonky lines.
@Kiya Very nice, the face is flawless, and I would never have thought to make a plushie (regardless of my lack of skill at such a craft). The cloth folds actually make it look more pumpkin-y. I'm interested in seeing how the body turns out.

I've decided to go with the idea I posted above. Here's a very crude sketch for what I'm doing - it's only relevant in terms of pose and proportions (note: I know the eyes and nose are too high and that the head is too big as well >.< that was due to me just wanting to get the basics down, and the reason for the hair is that I don't have a style in mind yet)
It's been over a year since I had drawn anything (last drawing project: late spring 09), so if it just stinks, let me know.
Thinking of adding a small prose or poem in the final product - perhaps in Old Ascalonian even. Not sure what to add - if anything - to make it halloweenish.
@Usk: One thing you can do is to observe the attack motion used in game and figure out a stance through that. Outside that, just make sure not to have a static looking stance - lean forward with the head looking straight forward and the like.

@Usk
Maybe something like this?
http://s1003.photobucket.com/albums/...rent=halpa.jpg
Turn the torso a bit and have him winding back for a swing. Obviously his arm won't be that long, that's just to illustrate. Add some forward lean and (if you're drawing legs) a wide stance. Or go for an actual in-game stance, perhaps, if you just watch your dervish attack things and find something cool (like when they twirl their scythe above their head or something).

WooT ... sleep depriviation high stimulated by coffee can actually stimulate creativity, apparently (dont try that at home kids :P ) ... so i got my Theme and my basic idea, now its getting some starting materials ...
Idea: G.A.D.D. -> Gamers Against Drunk Drivers, and well low and behold, to some it will be funny, others might find it scary and it will even be artwork with a message, and be halloween themed ... ... do realise i will need to do finding the bloodstone first though, to get some quality samples of 'Gadd'

It's a good concept but lacks a little creativity. Everyone and their mother seen a guy licking a knife on TV. What you should REALLY focus on is the background.
To a point of the psychopathic licking the blade of the scythe looks directly at you in a way of, "By the way, your next." Like an entire Charr village burning, bodies on the ground with Gwen standing over a body, smiling with flames reflecting in her eyes. In the sky, have a vague image of a ghostly Dhuum looking down at his handwork and on the psychopaths shoulder a ghostly Dhuum hand. The full moon glows a radiant red.
Lastly, on the ghostly image of Dhuums hallow eyes it should say.
"A good person." on the left eye. "Is a dead one" on the right.
