How do you guys manage to find people doing commissions on DA anyway? I wouldn't mind paying rl money for one some-day but I have trouble finding people that actually do them.

I just happened to watch that guy when he announced in his journal that he was doing commissions - react quickly, have a paypal account and keep money there (takes 2-4 working days to transfer money onto it, and most artists want to be paid in advance or are really fast at drawing so in most cases you'll need access quickly). Other than that, if there's someone you'd really really like to draw something for you, it can't hurt to just ask - a bit of flattery for the ego - the worst they can do is say no

If he's currently available, check out hugohugo on dA, Hailfall. He does great stuff and it's only a few dollars. I had him do this for me a couple of years ago, after I failed miserably at drawing that particular RP character (I colored it here). To say I was happy with it doesn't even begin to cover it, his drawing was so spot-on to my minds-eye and my description

I've commissioned a bunch of artists on DA and I've usually found them via 3 ways:
-Check the "job services" forum on DA. There's a ton of artists who post about accepting commissions there. If you know of very few artists on DA, this is the best option.
-Just generally try to find good artists on DA (find a person with good taste and browse their favourites is a good way), you should stumble on a person who's doing commissions or will in the future.
-If you find an artist who's NEVER done commissions before, ask him or her about it, chances are they've just never thought about it and are willing to give it a go.(artists who's never done commisisons before also tend to be the most motivated to actually do commissions, although that's not always true)
Here's a few artists I know are currently accepting commissions:
http://stregatto10.deviantart.com/ - A good artist with cheap prices. Around 20-30 USD for a full colour commission. She's got a good deal of people in her commission queue already but I think she's still accepting new commissions. Expect to wait a few months for the artwork though.
http://tozani.deviantart.com/journal/ - A really good artist who just started accepting speed commissions for 20 USD each (30 USD for background too), it's a few weeks since he posted the journal about it but I'm very sure he's still accepting new commissions and I doubt there's many people in the queue.
http://takumy.deviantart.com/ - She accepts sketches and CGs commissions. Personally I think her CG is a bit overpriced considering her style (well, when compared to the other artists just mentioned anyway), but she's a good choice, especially for quick sketches.
http://raulovsky.deviantart.com/ - He's a bit more expensive than the ones listed above, but his artwork is definitely worth it. Considering he's had no requests in 1-2 months despite advertising, I think he'll be the fastest to do commissions in this list.
http://achibner.deviantart.com/ - A good choice if you want really profesional looking painting. I'm not sure if he's accepting commissions right now (he didn't reply the last email I sent him a few months ago, but it's very possible he's simply tired of my commission requests ). If he is accepting requests, expect to pay up to 150 USD.
(one little warning, the galleries for all these artists are a bit NSFW since they have some artwork with nudity. But if you're not logged in, those pictures won't appear at all)

Thanks a lot for the help guys. Once I get college/work situated I'll probably try a lot of the methods you've used Sectus. I will buy art someday...I will!
Man those guys are talented, and have pretty good prices (besides takumy which I'm going to have to agree with you with...)

That's awesome
Anyway, I've made a gallery to put my art/commissions! It's missing some stuff, but I do have most of it there.
