Dash's Commissions.
Intro:
Ahoy. I've been drawing for a number of years (23 to be exact -- wow that makes me feel old... I think I'll stop counting from now on...), and these days, my style trends between semi-realism and anime. Photoshop and Sketchbook Pro are my programs of choice. My previous work can be seen at:
http://dash-x.deviantart.com
And the quality that you can expect is somewhere around the ballpark of this piece here. These days, I start from a small, rough sketch (thumbnail), and apply basic color. Then, I blow it up to around 800-1000 pixels and start going to town.
So, why commissions? Well, I've been grinding for the Hall of Monuments, and it would be quite a bit easier if I had the bankroll to back it up. Weapons, Armor, sweets, picks and booze are quite expensive. And, if I can improve my drawing skills instead of grinding for them, why not?
Services Offered and Pricing:
Waist-Up (grayscale): 75K
Waist-Up (color): 100K
For now, only a couple of services are offered. As I get faster and more confident with doing this, more services will become available.
For now, the limit is 1 character to a painting, though a minion or pet or deity can be added at an additional charge depending upon its prominence and/or complexity. To use an example of the piece pointed out above (the quality sample), Balthazar is not terribly prominent in the piece, and is fairly simple (monochromatic) with few details sketched on. So, the additional price wouldn't be much (+10K). However, if, for example, I was to give him the same amount of visible complexity as the Dervish, the price would double (+100K). Please note that is not a course of action I'd recommend -- if anything for the sake of the preservation of a strong visual hierarchy. Two objects with the same amount of visual complexity tends to clash. Some folks could do it -- I on the other hand, am not at that level yet... Though, if you want to plunk down the platinum for it, I won't stop you...
Just a warning - but certain armor details may change or become simplified...
Descriptions:
Waist-Up - Technically, it's Hip-up... Think portraits of royalty or generals... The character could either sit or stand -- your choice. The background would be a mottled color that would help to make the character pop (if color is applicable -- otherwise, it's just a mottled 50% gray). Example: here
Turnaround Time and Other Things of Note:
For now, there will only be one slot. but as I get faster and more confident (and as my organizational skills improve), more slots will open up. NEW! A little more random selection has been added to the process. Now, the first six people to post will be assigned faces of a die (so the first person to request would be 1, the second -- 2, the third -- 3, and so on...). I'll then go outside of a town or outpost, roll a dice, and take a screenshot. The number that comes up will be the person who gets the slot. Once all available slots have been filled, the queue resets. In plain english, that means that there's no backlog. For example, persons A through G apply for a place on the die, in that order. Persons A, B, C, D, E, and F get places on the die. After that, the dice is rolled, and a winner is chosen (for the sake of example, let's say person D) -- person D gets the slot. After his order is filled and he has paid up, the slot opens again. Immediately, Persons A, H, I, J, K, L, and M apply for places on the die in that order (in which case, A has reapplied). Person M does not get a place on the die because he was the last to apply when the slot became available.
To request a place on the die, post in the thread. Provide the usual information:- Character Name
- Screenshots of Character from multiple angles (if possible, an extreme closeup from the Anatomical Engineer NPC window would be lovely too...)
- Miscellaneous Character detail (hair, eye color, main/desired weapon, signature/most-used elite, etc.)
- Description of Character (if you feel that it is necessary)
Turnaround time from commission acceptance to completion is currently estimated at 1-2 weeks (maybe longer, maybe shorter). The reason being that I draw for a living, and sometimes, when I come home from work, the last thing I want to see is a drawing utensil. I also have personal projects that I work on when the inspiration strikes, and well, that's like trying to predict lightning. I hope you understand.
With that said, the process will go like this:- I'll send initial thumbs via PM.
- You reply with feedback on the thumbs or with suggestions (unless you like what you see; in which case, it's full speed ahead).
- I incorporate feedback and PM thumbs for approval (back-and-forth limit of 3 rounds -- hopefully, that many won't be necessary, but just in case).
- Approval! Full speed ahead!
- When I've finished, I'll send you a PM of the finished, scaled-down, watermarked image.
- You pay in-game.
- I immediately send a link to the full-sized image via PM.
I reserve the right to refuse to take a commission request. I also reserve the right to use generated pieces in my portfolio should I wish to do so. The work you pay for is yours to use as you wish, but just make sure I get proper credit... Unless you go and do something drastic to it.
Restrictions
- I don't do gore (don't have the stomach for it). Though, I don't count minions as gore because for the most part, they're muscular systems attached to disfigured skeletons... Gore = blood and/or guts...
- Mature stuff decided at my own discretion, but generally a "no".
So with all of that out of the way, which of you brave souls would like a commission?

Update:
Name: Kimi (Asian)
Eyecolor: Brown
Personality: Outside of her missions she is mostly a person who makes the most out of her life, she is also a party animal. In her missions she is pretty serious, but tends to do some sweet talking when she is face to face with someone.
Discription: Kimi has been trained into Ninjutsu since she was 7 (she is now 25 years old). It's not just Ninjutsu that she has been trained into, she has also mastered the Shadow Arts. By which she can walk through the shadows. Fading away in black smoke, completely becoming invisible for a brief moment and being able to create a shadow-ish illusion of herself, just to name a few abilities. Currently she lives in a big city mainly run by criminal orginisations. She is part of a gang to stop all the criminal activities with high-tech Ninja tools including handguns, and their assault team wears modern traditional Samurai suits (so strong that it resists a huge amount of bullets) with mainly an assault gun and a hardened sword. The year this takes place in is around 2075-2100.

Oops, forgot to say that I would like color.
Very nice art, I especially really like that samurai mouse (or rat?) you made!

100% up for a commission Stunning Dervish you've got there!
I would love a painting (colored! ) of my monk, Lucy Gwyneth.
I should really head off to bed, but I have this reference sheet as a starter, will provide better screenshots and the whole tit tat later.
I will put you up with the rest asap, really would like a painting from you!

Thanks all! I honestly didn't expect this much demand...
With the first commission out of the way, I figure it might be a decent idea to show the progression of the piece I just finished...
I started with the thumbs below:
After IH chose a thumb, I started working it up more...
After approval of general direction, I blew it up and continued working it:
After adding details and stuff, this is the result...
Commisions won't be immediately re-opened. I'm gonna have to figure out a way to revamp the commission-taking process. Either so that more people can get slots, or something... I admit that this process can be a bit more orderly. And, for some reason, my future-seeing eye can forecast things getting ugly if the single-slot system remains... I'll keep you guys posted...

Quite patient, Dash. Very cool finished product - I love that some places have slightly chunky brush strokes. It adds character and makes the piece look unique, edgy, and reminds me a bit of acrylics. Beautiful.

Well, you could do what some other artists have done, which is let people interested in getting a commission post their characters on the thread for a day or two, and then pick which one interests you the most. It can be difficult to choose though, since there are so many fun characters around here.
Very lovely work on Hydralisk's assassin btw. I love your colouring style, it's rough but that just gives a painterly feeling to it. I don't suppose you'd be up for a quick just-the-bust-of-the-character-no-background art-trade? You can see examples of my work at shinanai.deviantart.com.

Pretty epic ^^ Looks great. I think I'll choose my ranger instead of my monk if I can get you to do a drawing for me, think it suits your style a lot better. Let me know, maybe I have some things in storage that can change your mind
