Congrats to all the winners from here! Although my favorites have to be Daniel F's (hmm wonder who that could be =P), Meghann B's (awww). A lot of them were kinda dark this year, maybe its just my monitor?
I am surprised that more weren't placed though. We seemed to have more colorful works here that IMO I liked better.

There is less than a month before CNY so maybe a different theme for the next workshop? And it is year of the bunny. :-)

The Canthan Workshop is Tommy's project It's up to him whether he plans on running it
I have way too much IRL stuff going on to be able to actively participate in a workshop now, whether it's helping to run it or entering it.

@satomz; ok, well, then I don't know. :/
The Workshop's theme should be Bunny Fever! Imagine a Master Bunny Togo, Bunny Shiro etc.
Or maybe Bunny Samurai's and Bunny Ninja's? <3

Last year the Canthan workshop was timed with the Dragon Festival, I think. I think something for Canthan New Year is just too soon after Wintersday.

@Verene; that's true, if it was with Canthan New Year then it should have already been up.

technically Mina is running a workshop on deviantART (for those who don't already know). Deadline is Feb 28th, and the theme is you have to use one of the given refrences. Not necessarily the same type of workshop, as the workshop-y stuff was the build up to this contest. There are some prizes, including points and comissions. It doesn't have to be guild wars either, but theres nothing saying it cant be ;P
-exitcoughcough-
Might I suggest Birthday or April fools for the next guru workshop? They take place in April, so the workshop could start early-mid march.

Alright, so quick question everyone. I need a backup plan for money since I didn't win anything in the official contest; and I got wonderfully suggested the option of doing drawing commissions of your guy's GW characters for some in-game cash.
I am highly considering doing this, even though I have a lot of AP art class stuff to work on, I would really like to be able to do this as a side thing when I have the time, to earn some in-game money. Plus I think it'd be fun to do some GW character drawings ^^
So I read somewhere about not being able to start a thread or something without permission or certain qualification? I was just wondering, how would I start my own thread or whatever for doing commissions here, if I am allowed to?
-Thanks.

@Nemisis; if you want to open a commission tread, go ahead! Nothing stopping you, and I think you'll get plenty people lining up. You make a new thread in the nolani forum. Take a look at the existing threads for inspiration on how to put your original entry
If your thread doesn't appear straight away it's because it needs to be validated by a moderator first, so don't be alarmed

Pretty much what Gimini said, there is no qualification for commission (other then that you can't ask real life items for it I think). Even if your drawings where the absolute worst (which yours definatly aren't) then you have every right to open a commission thread. Only thing you should consider is how much you're going to ask for a drawing and what system your going to use (like auction, only 1 slot a time, 3 slots a time etc. etc.), but I'm sure you can figure something out to your liking

Also, as someone who tried and failed to do commissions - don't be afraid to say no, and don't underprice your work. Seriously Otherwise you'll find yourself overwhelmed and with not much to show for it.

Minami could you send a copy of that PM my way? I was thinking of opening a thread later once I've got more things to post up example wise, and I wasnt sure if I wanted to do comissions or free practice-i want you refrence- type threads. could help me make up my mind :3

Congratulations to everyone who placed! Quite a few nice non-Guru entries this year, although there were so many more awesome entries in the Workshop that should've at least gotten an honourable mention. Zidane's, Tommy's, satomz's and Minami's entries totally should've ranked in the official contest.
This will be the last GW1 contest entry for me too. I'm a little disappointed in how they run things (from completely copying last year's text to not even sending out an automated confirmation email that the entry was received, or writing clearly what kind of entries are accepted).
I also admit that I'm wondering why they didn't like my entry. :P Oh well... at least the Workshop is more equal and gives wonderful feedback on entries, and is definitely a thousand times better than the official contest because people actually care and pay attention to what they're doing. It's nice that Arenanet takes the time to host contests for us, but I wish they would put a little more thought into the details.
I don't mind losing, I just wish they had more entries that I'd love to lose to.
As for hosting future Workshops, I'd be glad to help. As long as people are interested and genuinely care about developing their artistic skills, I would be very happy to be a part of it.
The Workshop party date is ok for me too! I will be able to make it on that day. Now to start anticipating the Workshop results.... :3
