@Tommy's What's actually pretty strange is that they are making the Snowman Ball like on the edge of the hill, from which it goes downwards.
Hmm, better call in the Ghostbusters... for a second I thought I saw a ghost.

Its a bit of an odd shaped hill. If you look at the Elfs and the humans/grentches you can see that it goes a lot more downwards then near the grentches (behind them it goes up again). So there is some flow in the hill, which the snowball is placed on, to make it look even bigger! You can stud it with some snow
And merry christmas all

Added the new prizes to the list. Thanks for the new donations!
@Tommy's: I agree that the trees added a nice touch to it. Looks a lot more cheerful now.
@satomz: Looking really nice, can't wait to see more colour in it!
Worked on mine a little more, now that I got some free time:

Thanks Perynne and Death by an Arrow for comments. And now, today's progress:
There is supposed to be two more pictures, and the black background will be replaced by sky blue background similar to the ones in first couple of pictures.
I'm not particularly looking forward to drawing HotN Kieran though (in the last picture)... He looked better before he went to WiK.

Looks great Minami! Still think the background of the top middle should be lighter (or you should be darker). Also I think you missed a small bit in the middle right picture. Just a bit above your head there is a stripe that I think shouldn't be there
And Satomz, those shapes are really good. Are you going to detail them all? Thats gonna be a lot of work! Hope you make it in time.
Perynne: Yay finaly some progess from you again Loving the eyes on that kid, though something about him freaks me out a bit Its the nose of the mouth I don't know Or perhabs its because it looks like he's missing a neck dunno Love the way you shaded the cloths by the way, wouldnt change that!
Some more: Added in the mesmer and the poor fellow getting snow down his skirt Still need to do something about all those grentches their bodies, they are a bit too flat.

Oooh, thanks Tommy, I have no idea what that smudge thing is O_O
I exchange it in a minute Thanks!
As for the other pic's background, I'll see what I can do... That's the only picture where I don't have the background separate on a layer anymore

I think I am dropping out of the contest.
I've lost inspiration on my original idea, and I'm not having any good ideas for something I can do between now and Friday. Also my depression has decided to rear up and hit me much harder than it has in a long time, and I've just barely got the energy to be able to go about my every day things I have to do.
So yeah. Unless something pops up in a couple days, I won't be entering. Sorry guys.

I have decided to change my Second entry, same title, same progress diary, but different motive.
I was thinking about making something like this:
It's super messy and I'm gonna pretty up Dwayna a lot (right now she looks like an over excited mother T_T) and blah blah blah... But still. You ge the picture.
Any ideas on how I can make the cave resemble the ice cave you do the wintersday mission in? And any tips on putting more motion into dwayna; she's supposed to be sliding. I'm gonna make snowflakes scatter around her.

so the deadline is really soon and I'm... sort of getting there. The chest will be finished today, and my goal is (until my next break) is to finish the snowman or the door. Ill try my best to remember to upload images.
But I've also got a question/suggestion I was thinking of. Since all the detailed items (the chest, the bears, etc.) are done in little squares and are more detailed, would it help enhance them to use larger squares for the background and foreground to make them less detailed? Do you think that would detract or enhance the focus?
What if it was just one or the other? Say, an equally detailed foreground but then a less detailed background or vice versa.
I ask this because the foreground and background are essentially just smooth gradiants of blues and don't really require alot of detail, but I feel like if I did bigger squares It would look off because its different.
Now, by square size i mean like,
for the bears and the chest and most of the rock, each torn out piece is around or less than 1cm.
for some of the rocks each torn out piece is around 2-3cm at there longest points
For the background/foreground I was thinking of maybe like 5-6cm pieces.
Edit: I present to thee, the Chest and Snowman done. No, they aren't actually the same size :P
The chest took the longest amount of time/work to complete. Glad it's done. All I have left is the dungeon gate, the back wall, and the ground (the things I asked for suggestions for :P)
My goal is to get the door done tonight to. Tomorrow will be the background/foreground stuff. Gunna take a break, star wars episode 2 and Darksiders await me :3

I thought about how much time it is taking me to make each drawings, and I decided to downgrade the quality of drawing, to one with line art and more simplified shadowing. After all, my initial intention was having music as main feature.
Anyway, here's the progress for yesterday and today.

@Death By An Arrow: Wow, I really like how it's looking so far. It's amazing how much detail you can get out of small bits of paper.
Hm... I think perhaps larger pieces of paper would work for the background. Maybe if they're only 3 or 4 times larger than the usual pieces of paper, they wouldn't look too different? I don't know, but to me it just sounds like having larger paper pieces for the background would work. :3
@Minami: Eeee, absolutely stunning photos! And very good photomanipulation too. I really, really like your rit costume, it's so pretty. <3
@Tommy's: Whee, glad to see your piece finished too. I really like all of the action and the detail in it, there's something to see no matter where the eye rests. Perhaps the only thing I would comment anymore is that the sky could use something in it, like a bird shadow or two? All of the action is more along the horizontal line and the eye kind of wanders up easily, so something there to bounce the viewer back down would help.
It's great like this too though, especially if you don't have time to work on it anymore.
@Verene: Aww... too bad, I was looking forward to seeing your entry. I do understand being depressed though, and how that can make every day life difficult. I hope you'll feel better soon, and hope to see you at the workshop party at least.
@GeminiJuSa: Maybe some motion blur to go along with the scattering snowflakes? Also, you can get more motion by using a more blurred background, so that way you wouldn't need to worry about doing a lot of detail there.
It's an interesting angle for a character, I hope you can get it to work. It's looking good so far at least.
@satomz: I think the simplified colours will work well with this. It doesn't always have to be detailed to look good - sometimes simple is better. This way, if there's music involved, the drawings won't take too much attention from the main feature.
Looking great so far, I like Gwen's different poses.
Worked on my own entry some more. I think it's pretty much finished - will do some final touch-ups tomorrow perhaps, such as some colour tweaks and any extra shading that needs to be done. I'd love to get any last minute comments now, while I can still change stuff. Managed to catch a flu during the weekend, so I'm feeling a bit bleh and barely have energy to draw, but I will get it done!
