@Tommy - perhaps creases or wrinkles in the pants to show her left leg is bent and not just strangely shaped.
@Minami - I'll keep you two in my prayers.

Again, thank you everyone for the PMs and the well wishes in this thread. We are doing better, and will keep doing better. Getting used to the new lifestyle is a bit difficult, but nothing impossible. We have time.
My salmon turned out pretty awesome, so that helps with my new food cooking anxiety.
I look forward to you guys's comments on my progress pics. I had help from my mom and my sister, they're curious too.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 more progress pic for today:
The skirt part is cut out and trying to pin the bottom layer so it fits.
I love the brown material the skirt is made of, very nice suede with perfect thickness and movement.
Bought it super cheap at Walmart ^_^
My idea is to create a ritualist, who experiences the wonders of snow for the first time.

@Minami: It looks really nice! I wish I had the skills and materials to make things like that Q_Q
Here are two WIP for now on my new piece:
I'm not quite happy with the eyes, so I might just redraw them (probably will; realism isn't my thing >_<) because right now I think they just look creepy... But the lineart for Dwayna is turning out quite ok I think
(if you wonder, she's gonna "hold" a package floating mid air)
Idea is that Dwayna is gonna be in one eye, and grenth in the other. I haven't decided on what he's gonna be holding... The polar bear mini seems a bit too much of a copy-cat thing as in all contests there's been plenty of them X_X; And I'm not as good as some at drawing animals *looks at Magic and Tommy*

Thanks IH and Gemini
@ Gemini: Well, this is the first time I ever tried to make something like this, gotta start somewhere, right? ^_^
I really like your Dwayna lineart, looks very nice! How about Grenth holding a withered/abandoned looking Xmas tree?

@Minami im sure everything will be ok again. *hugs*
@Morag well, thats the most original idea i have heard in a while. It really looks amazing already. The only thing i can say is don't forget to change the color of Grenths leg.
@Tommy your piece looks really great, but there are some things i would change (its just me, your choice if you gonna listen to me ) First, monks leg is kinda bend, to fix that add little folds where is bent, also cut a little from her left leg, its further away from us so it should be a bit smaller (like this). Other than that, monk looks good, but i would add a lot of darker shadows on her just to make it more realistic (but thats just me). Ele looks great, but will probably want more darker shading on her too. Carrot should cast shadow below elfs hands/onyx gemstones too. Also, right elfs belt is too striking, when i look at the picture thats the first thing that comes to my attention. Try to add more darker lime green on his outfit. Generally i would use wider range of lights and darks on their armor, to achieve more dynamic look, now it looks like you were using close variants of the same color. The mountains look amazing. Its just, on the right side its kinda empty? I would add not too detailed mountain top behind the elf mountain, or even a whole mountain behind elf one.
I hope this helps even a little to make your piece even more awesome
@Gemini that looks nice ^^. When you finish Grenth and Dwayna in her eyes, use polygonal lasso tool and make a little selection where you want reflection in her eye to be. Then use some really bright color (but not white) fill that selection. Select soft airbrush and erase a little on one end. That will make really nice realistic reflection in her eyes. Also, if you want full realism, i would suggest to use really small hard brush and erase where her eyelashes cast shadows.

@Minami: Wow, looking good! I love watching arts and crafts process, and having a ritualist as an idea is awesome. One of my favourite classes, along with the ranger. Can't wait to see more!
@GeminiJuSa: Ooh, Dwayna lineart is pretty. Yeah, the eyes do look a little creepy. I think you could help that by making the eyelashes much thicker and denser, and adding some warmer tones to the skin around the eyes. Meaning, that instead of doing all of the skin tones and shading with shades of blue, add some red, or even brown to it. Carefully though - perhaps with airbrush set to a very low opacity.
And wow, doing a second entry... you're really getting into this! Could you provide a link to the progress gallery please?
@Odinius: No hurry, there's still a few weeks of Workshop left. Best to get the kitchen working first, before starting on your project. I'm a long way from being ready too, and I bet you'll be close to finishing before me.

Same as me, not even started my entry for the official competition yet. I'm stuck in limbo - have the idea for my piece firmly planted in my head, but not yet 'got at it'.

@Minami: First? I never would have guessed! :O
@Magic: Thank you for the tip! Although I already had something similar in mind, I value your help a lot!
@Flying Ninja Monk: The more I look at it, the more I hate it. >_< droopy eyed freak is what it is! And to think it's the second pair I made after the first sketch that I made traditionally with a pencil... That one actually look very nice.
@Perynne: Next time I think I'm gonna use an eyelash brush. For some reason I couldn't find the fade effect on the brush in CS5... I can draw the eyes just fine with a pencil, but digitally it just ends up crap, especially since I try to do it "lineless". Very frustrating >_<
I haven't had time to set the progress diary up yet, but there will be plenty pics to put in there once I do >_<

I am getting so lost in this forum haha.
Uhmm, well, I wanted to sayyyy
@Minami: I absolutely LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Ritualists, so there is no doubt that I will be completely and utterly in love with your finished product haha. I really do like the idea, and I believe that the parts are coming along great so far. They all look Ritualistic to me =P
Can't wait to see more!
@GeminiJuSa: Oh I'm really liking the Dwayna you have going there, she looks very nice. I am just confused on if those eyes are supposed to be hers, or in the background orrr?? I think I am missing something here hah. There isn't really anything that I think that I can point out otherwise at the moment. Lookin' good so far =]
@Morag D: That is an amazing idea! I have a feeling that I'm really going to enjoy your piece as well. I like how it looks so far, and as an idea. Very lovely!
@Tommy's: Just curious, is there supposed to be black space between the farthest elves' arms? I noticed that in the picture and it looks really odd to me. Just thought I'd point that out.

Perhaps try using the smudge brush? I don't normally use it myself, but I think it might give a nice fade effect if you first apply a thick layer of colour on the upper eyelid, then start smudging eyelashes out of it with a small, round hard brush.
I find eyelashes difficult to do too, so you're not the only one. :P

@Nemesis-of-the-Gods: I'm actually kinda happy with how she turned out, despite the fact that my rough sketch is always 10 times nicer than the final lines (the thin lines always get so squiggly Q_Q) But the eyes... I can't stand them any more T-T
@Perynne:That is an interesting tip! I wonder how it will look on a close up though... I'll try it!

The way I do eyelashes if I do them detailed is:
1. Make a dark basis (just a strip along the eye where lashes are going to be)
2. on top of that make a little bit lighter smaller line
3. Smudge tool; select a hard edge brush, put it on a small size, set strength around 65-80 and start smuding.
And tadaa you get eyelashes ^^
Ok so here is a WIP in the final size (at least what I think will become final size). Its 33% of the size I'm painting it in. The size you've seen so far is about 16%.

Had no time to work on the hands of the elf yet, but I will fix 'm later on Made some changes to the monk, looks better now? Narrowed the leg a bit like Magik said, and added darker creaves, like everyone said xD Also adjusted skin tone a bit and hair aswell. And I notice I totaly forgot to add an eyebrow Ah well..

@Odinius & @Angel Killuminati: I'm nowhere close to being done either. Since the whole thing won't be over until the 31st, I think we should just take our time and have fun .
