Quick, UPDATE: http://nemesis-of-the-gods.deviantar...llery/27491109

I added smokey cloud thingies and darkened some things.... I am still thinking that it is missing something. I am not sure if I want to do the snow idea, for fear of ruining the overall composition of the picture. Any ideas?

@Verene: Hah yeah. Some papers you can't see through though. It feels weird to try and trace something.

@Oh_Frustration: Thanks. Well I tried to do that with the smokey cloud mist vapor, whatever your heart desires to call it, stuff but, eh I don't know.

@Marshmallow: Thanks, I do too. I don't like backgrounds much, but I have to add something to this, I just have to. It looks too incomplete even if it still looks good. Also, I am having a hard time making out what the image inside of the snow-globe in your drawing is supposed to be. What is it? haha

@GeminiJuSa: Because I, for one, do not own photoshop; and for two, this is not digital work. It is all 100% hand drawn in pencil on paper. So, that would not work out.

@KiyaKoreena: When you say that you can only use materials that you already have; does that mean that the Rit skill bar bracelet thing is out of the question??
And that pillow is really cute ^^

Not everyone is working digitally

Deadline is in the first post, Bebe ;p January 1st, the day after the deadline for the official contest.

No rit skill bar for my entry. I think I will just have to make due with my first monk one because my goal is now to finish by the end of the week. >.< I know I will kick myself because that leaves a few weeks of "Oh I could do this and add this" but I've got so many non contest things I need to get done and if I promised myself I would practice restraint this contest time.

DEKIMASHITA!!! (It's done!)

And the video only took me about 50h to get together, excluding the time to draw the drawing >_<

Haha, great video Gemini JuSa! You do have a very lovely voice, both for speaking and singing.

I like how you presented your drawing process, and your comments were well-delivered and interesting too. Good job!

@Ninja Monk: It's best to have the whole lineart in one layer. Well... I guess it's about preference, but I don't think there's any need to work on a bazillion different lineart layers when one or two should be enough. The more layers you use, the harder it will be to keep track of them, and the more your computer will complain.
Multiply basically makes your layer see-through. Try it out on a new canvas - scribble on a normal layer, then make a new layer on multiply and scribble on that on top of the normal layer. Can you see how the colours both look good on the white area, but they get "blended" darker where they touch? Generally, a multiply layer is like putting a see-through film with colour on top of the previous layer, and depending on the bottom layer's colour you will get different results.
Other layer styles can be useful too, so I suggest trying them out.

Lovely artwork and progress from everyone! I don't have time to comment much today because I've been stupid and slacking off with getting drawing done. Trying to minimize distraction so that I can actually get my parents' present done.

@Dutch ~ Nice article. I do not see how hosting an in-game quest stops you drawing for us though, maybe just a little one?
@Zidane ~ That made me smile, even though I am feeling sorry for the mouse. Wonderful pic.
@ Magik ~ That’s so lovely, her crown is so pretty. The smile is just right and the perfect manicure makes sense  and oooh I want that bearcub. Totally awesome
@ Satomz ~ I can’t wait to hear it.
@Tommy ~ Those elves are great, the slightly grumpy look is so much better than happy.
@ Nemisis ~ Maybe leave it for a while and come back to it after a few days? I am not sure what happens if you do something you don’t like but it can’t be easy to change it. As the pic is so lovely do be cautious.
Verene’s idea is a good one, I have one of those tables that pull apart to put extra leaves in, and when I have needed to trace something I pull it apart a little and take the glass out of one of my picture frames to put across the gap, with a lamp under the table it works ok with printer paper. Of course I would be furious if one of the children did it!
@Kiya ~ Your first monk one was lovely though, the colours are great. When you first met that cute girl in pre did you have any idea that she could be so terrifying?
@ Gemini ~ Wow, if that’s you, you have a lovely voice. The video was very interesting, I honestly had no idea how much work goes into these pictures. I very much enjoyed watching it. Now we want more singing :P

It's early here and I am tired, but I would like to say:

@GeminiJuSa: First of all your picture turned out amazing, I love the final layers that you added, you really captured the night-time well; and the glittering snow looks great! You put a lot of work into this, the video tutorial was nice to watch, I'm not used to digital mediums so it kind of gave me an small look of what you can do. Overall I think that it is a successful piece of art that you should be proud of. And you should definitely be proud of that voice!!! You probably have one of the best singing voices that I have heard

@KiyaKoreena: Aww, shame. Oh well. Your other works are just as amazing anyhow haha.

@Perynne: Don't feel too bad. I know the feeling, been there done that haha.

@Aeronwen: Yeah, I will probably not touch it over the weekend. But I want to have it completely finished and touched up by the 16th. I was thinking of maybe adding a small black border (shaded in with pencil) to the image, to kind of tie it all in, since it feels a bit too much like it's falling off the paper for me, like something to hold it in would maybe please the eye a bit more. Don't think that I will add the snow. The scene already kind of looks like the aftermath of snow so I think that the cloudy smoke things were risky enough. I need to touch them up for sure though X_X
And yeah, pencil, as well with various other traditional mediums; while it erases, you still have to be cautious with it. Otherwise you get erase lines, or you end up just ruining the picture and you can't take out what you did without erasing parts that you really like and end up not being able to draw them the same way twice. It's a nightmare haha.
That's really cool though. I should see about getting one of those in the future. Ha, of course. And yeah, sad but true, I do use Printer Paper most often, it's about all I got. I have actually learned how to work with it over the years though

And Gwen is somewhat secretly, evil, we all know it deep down inside. XD

Marsh, I have no idea how you managed... But that Gwen actually looks sort of kind. Yet I still don't trust her. I think you might want to look again at her lower arm though, seems to be bending a bit strange. At least I would start to worry when my arm acted like that But hell, I would seriously started to worry if I looked anything like that anyway Though walking through the world as a 2D figure would have its cool parts *starts daydreaming...*

@Marsh: I think that is SO AWESOME! <3 She can slay charr with Epic Cuteness I think the only problem about that arm is the hand...it looks to be bent abit wierd
@Nemesis: Amazing! I really love it, and i think that falling snow would make it abit cluttered yes =o Right now the only thing i think is that the water pouring looks abit like snow (maybe that's just me w/o glasses o.O)
@Perynne: Flying Ninja Monk has gained 1 level in: Photoshop Knowledge
Thanks!

InfestedHydralisk: I don't own any music rights so I had to do it akapella XP

Perynne: Thanks a bunsh ^^ I think I speak a bit muddy though :P Sound like a kid haha. I once called the pizzeria when I was ill for home delivery. They thought I put my kid on the phone so they gave us lollipops for the kids XD

Aeronwen:
Normally it doesn't take as long as it did this time because I did count the time I had to stop for documentation on what I did (not during the streams though, pure work there, ~3h per sitting) and I've never put down so much effort on a background before. Normally it takes about 8h maximum for my most advanced pics with digital lineart. I'm not gonna do this if each pic will take 17h (yes I will, but I won't like it) X_X

Nemesis-of-the-Gods: Awwh, you're far too kind ^^ I've been having a little troll watching me make this piece, and it kept complaining on how bad it was and how I could do better, so I'm a bit so-so about it. I might make another piece once I'm done with my commissions, to see if it turns out better. I had a lot of fun planning and making the video, despite all the hair pulling about the video editing.

Eastern Magik: Now you know how I sound :O

Marsh: I felt like I just had to have a credits song, and thought it'd be fun to "spice it up" a bit with a roll ;P Your piece is turning out sooo nice! I'm at awe over the folds on the dress!

Flying Ninja Monk: Did you see it yet?

Gemini - your video is awesome, and holy crap I adore your accent. And I cracked up at the credits (your singing is lovely) XD

Marsh - TOO DAMN CUTE.

I have to put off working on my entry a bit, I'm too broke to buy Christmas gifts for people this year so I'm making a ton of stuff. Currently about three-quarters through knitting a Hello Kitty hat (one of three or four!), need to make calendar Christmas cards for my mom and several other people, need to assemble the cookbook I'm making for my boyfriend's mom, and I have a ton of baking to do. Awesome XD Luckily I enjoy doing these things and it shouldn't cost me much.

Great lesson I learned today is never underestimate the power of contrast. Think the contrast make it look a lot more alive. Thought I'd share this with the others, seems to be an ever returning point I guess. To compare:

Looks better huh? I never say this about my own stuff, but I really love these little guys. They are so funny. Wish Hoodie could see them

Thanks. I seem to be more out of shape than I originally thought, so ATM I'm building up those lip muscles for flute and piccolo and strengthening vocal cord or whatever you call it for singing.

@Tommy's: The left one reminds me of TF2 for some reason... You're right about the right one being more alive. Can't wait to see the whole picture
