Well...I'd like to enter the contest/participate in this workshop, but I think I've run out of Shiverpeaks music to arrange, lol. "Whitman's Folly" and maybe a few GW:EN themes are left. Hmm...I'll have to think about it; I think I'll do it...I've just gotta think of something.
Name: Shew
Idea for entry: piano arrangement

I need to jump into the critiques on this sometime soon - been a bit busy with finals week approaching. Good thing I didn't enter, otherwise I would have been boned :P
does that mean you can join us charlie q.q
your portrait is pretty sweet, hopefully its finished soon :3
quickentrysays ohaicharlie? D:
Haha, I would love to make an entry for Wintersday. But unfortunately, I'll be re-working my self portrait after my class critique. I also need to start on Hail's picture, who has been waiting for lord knows how long.
But I'll be showing up to the party! Hell, I would have shown up to the party even if I wasn't invited because I'm awesome like that

Solution: re-work your self-portrait into a battle-hardened warrior in a Jingle Bear costume and BAM... Wintersday entry
Update time for me: I can't draw on my commute, but at least I can still write Here's my tentative and very short prologue...
<sketch of hand, palm up>
She was in so much pain. It felt like she was dying, and she wished that she was dead, just to escape the agony. She felt nauseous, which was a mystery since it felt that her insides had been ripped out from her.
She drifted in and out of consciousness, unable to move or see.
But, she could hear. The sharp crack of slap brought her back out from the darkness. “You almost killed her! You worthless creature!”
The words were muffled, as if coming behind some closed door. “No!” she tried to call out, but the words came out in a bloody gurgle that made her lose consciousness again.
She heard the door open, and heard a familiar voice, “It’s OK, baby, you’re alright now. I’ll make you all better.”
* * *
Bix shot up, heart racing, struggling to breath and fight the pain. She slowly calmed when she realized where she was. She was sitting upright in her bed in Shing Jea Monastery, her hands clenched tightly, damp hair plastered down her back and sides of her face.
“Are you OK?” asked a sleepy voice from her right. The room they shared was dark, so her roommate couldn’t see the condition Bix was in.
She forced her voice to be steady, “Yeah, just a nightmare, Anza.” She silently held her breath, waiting for the soft snore from her roommate.
She brought her knees up to her chest, and rested a cheek on a knee. It was more than a nightmare. It felt like a memory - a horrible memory that she desperately wanted to forget.
Her right hand was still clenched. She leaned back a little and opened her hand. She ran the fingertips of her left along the damp palm. Something should have been there. It was something important that she had been holding onto in her nightmare.
She let out a soft sigh and rested her cheek on her knee again, wrapping her arms around her legs. The nightmare got worse with every year, and she desperately wished it would stop. She could perfectly recall the last time she had a stretch of nightmares just as she could perfectly recall each time before that.
Wintersday. It always started right before Wintersday and ended right after.
To every one else, Wintersday was a time of celebration and cheer, but for her, it only fueled her nightmares, and she feared this time of the year.
She brushed her palm lightly again before wiping away the tears on her cheeks. No, Mother, I’m not better. I lost something very precious that day.

OMG! this!! lol
And since I havent updated in a while...
Started to color now, I find myself scanning an image or taking a picture just to see if I should be intensifying shadows etc...niether pictures nor scanning are doing it justice and its VERY frustrating. Very much so hoping that the deadline will be after Christmas...a new scanner was on my wishlist. *crosses fingers*
It's still very rough, only have an hour or so into it at this point, but I'm gonna wait a bit and reflect on colors before I go too far. I made sure to take work in progress shots this time for the workshop, since I joined Halloween one too late, haha.
I couldn't start posting until recently so I've had a lot to go back and look through! A lot of really awesome submissions so far!
Frostkisses: I really love little grenth in the snowglobe waving, very cute and funny. The Avatar of Dwayna looks really awesome as well. :C I'm sorry that your scanner isn't working the way you want it to, I hoe you get it to cooperate.
Operative14: Hehe, I don't think photomanipulation is a 'cheapy' way, it's all about technique and yours is obviously quite good. You've managed to blend a lot of images together into a really beautiful composition so far. I have to say I liked Dwayna better golden then the orangish red color. I just think the gold felt a bit more cheery while the orange has a bit of a threatening look. I like the balance much better with the characters split up on both sides of the tree.
DeathbyanArrow: Those bears are looking super cute right now. I'm a little late for feedback, but I think yo ucould probably zoom in a little bit more so that the bears take up more of the canvas. That may be something you can crop down the bristol board or scan later on though.
GeminiJuSa: I'm really liking your concept so far, especially the headless bone minions shaping the snow man with their tails, haah. Super cute! I think you could probaly crop the image down a bit so that there's less empty space to the right and the minions would be brought a bit closer to the center. It just looks like there's a bit extra room on that side that doesn't necissarily need to be there.
Perynne this is soo cute! I am really loving the overall concept of the elmentalist bringing snow to all the Elonian children. Super adorable concept and the composition is great. I love that you took the time to think about foreground vs background and there's a little overlapping here and there that helps show size and relations. Really looking great so far!
Marshmallow: lol your entries are always so adorable and I really love the auroras you have going on in the background sky, they look much better now that you added the greens and pinks in there, very vibrant and awesome.

Help?
Okay, I'm a huge noob to GW Guru, I am not used to forum sites and I just signed up today. My friend told me about this art contest, and I want to enter. I hope that I am doing this correctly.
Name: Nemesis-of-the-Gods Idea for Entry: Grenth and Dwayna realize that they are the only gods that REALLY get into Wintersday, so they make an X-Mas tree out of Melandru's statue. Genre of Art: Drawing with Pencil on Paper Progress Gallery: So far I only have one sketch progress, I just started it yesterday. http://nemesis-of-the-gods.deviantar...llery/27491109
If I did something wrong or need to change something please let me know... and do we just keep posting our updates like this on here and our final piece? I am really very confused about this all, so all and any help will be appreciated because I would really love to be a part of the contest.
~Thanks so much, sincerely; Ritualesis Autumnia.

Waaaah, I feel like working on my entry again too, but I slammed a door on my thumb and now it's gonna be useless for another day or two.... Just my luck to do it on my drawing hand, can't even hold a pencil properly without pain. Bleh.
@Nemesis-of-the-Gods: Welcome! I hope you enjoy the contest, and looking forward to seeing your entry. You've got a very nice start, kind of feels to me like Grenth and Dwayna are ganging up on an unsuspecting Melandru.
@Arya: Wow... I love the cold colours. There's a lot of wonderful movement in it too, and the detail in the costumes looks awesome so far. Perhaps you could give Dwayna some really lightly drawn gold ornaments (and by lightly, I don't mean sparkly light, I mean gold that doesn't pop up too much). Or some way of separating the two a little more, such as giving Dwayna's magic a different colour than Grenth's?
@frostkisses: I think the lighting is looking very pretty. Perhaps in addition to the shadows, you should try to work in some lighter-than-base-skin highlights? Also, planning on making the snowglobe glowy? :3 I think having it glowy would draw more attention to the globe in a good way.
I hope you get a better scanner for Christmas too!
Arya, just WOW. That looks so great already, very dynamic, and great colours. I agree with Pery, I would keep the gold of dwayna very white. But hé, who am I to speak already, based on what you have so far, its gonna be amazing
And Nemesis, Indeed, welcome You are just on the right track, this IS the place to be Your progress is looking lovely so far, I really like the idea. Can't wait to see more
WB Shewmake looking forward to hearing your entry.
Charlie, when IS finals week? And good luck with it all.
Thistle, great start, gets you wanting to know more right from first few lines.
Frost, that’s lovely. I like so much what you have done with her mouth that I would lik it to stand out a little more.

I like it as it is ^^ Interested to see what you will do with it.
Too late for what? You won an awesome prize
Welcome Nemesis, I really love the concept and the picture so far is lovely. Please post your updates here, and people with more art knowledge than me will make helpful suggestions, which you are free to take up or ignore as you wish.
Raven, I remember someone saying it would be the first December, Charlie might do something to delay it though

Thanks everyone =]
@Perynne: I do believe that I will enjoy the contest, I've been wanting to enter the Wintersday art contest on the official GW site for a while now, even though they haven't released that they're having one yet; so this should be even more extra fun for me
And thanks, that's kind of the feel I was going for.
@Tommy: Good to know that I posted it in the right area haha. And thank you, I will probably have more to upload soon. Do I just keep posting my progress on this thread, or do you guys periodically check my gallery for updates? Not sure what to do there still.

Haha, Aeronwen, I'm sorry I didn't mean to exclude you in any way, I read what you said, but you posted right when I was posting so I didn't see what you said until after I had posted and it was too late to add anything at that point. >.<
I do appreciate the help.
I will continue to post updates on my progress here then =]
Thank you for clearing that up for me. And thank you, I'm glad that you like it so far ^^
Frustration checking back to the Workshop! I don't have an update coming up yet, but I think I can finally go on with my work Friday onwards. Getting my stuff done and tomorrow is this year's last exam... I hope, though, that the deadline will be after Christmas... I don't think I can finish before Christmas anyway.
Neat, Arya! I think I'll put that as my desktop! I like the rough style a lot there
