I'm having the exact same problem! I'm even INKING my lines, but they still come up gray and with "holes" in them
And I really got a fun idea for a progress diary on this one! Now I'm just gonna think of what to draw (My characters playing in the snow again for the sake of just making something funny cute with not much hope to even try a serious attempt at "winning" *not very competitive, so this might happen* or perhaps something more serious to really challenge myself? But then I have no clue on what to draw ) and then I can file an official entry!

I don't know what Inde + Nolani mods decided, as far as I know it's temporary, just for the duration of the Wintersday workshop
On that note, I added Nova to the entrants' list ^_^
|
As far as I know it'll be permanent. The usergroup works like the price checkers or the technicians. =) But we'll see how it goes. If it sticks I'm sure everyone would be happy with you helping out with the workshops in the future.

I am a bit late but I like the right one better too.

I'll be taking different recording for each, and combine them later. I still need to figure out how to combine the videos, but I've seen many people do something similar (combination of different kinds of recorder performance to create chamber music like video) so it must be doable.

So I'm still stuck between a digital painting or a mosaic/collage. Im thinking if I did a collage type thing I'd make it poster board/bristol board size. Around when has the Wintersday contest ended in previous years? Time may also play a factor in which I pick.
edit: materials would also be an issue. Id either need ALOT of winter magazines or find varying shades of blue construction paper...
perhaps the painting will be easier o.O

In 2008 the deadline was January 5th, and in 2009 it was on the 31st of December.

Perhaps you could do both? You could do some collage/mosaic work for the background, and then paint on top of it. Or then paint the background, and make collage characters. Here are some examples of combining painting with collage: http://fav.me/d31ypxx, http://fav.me/d2xv932, http://fav.me/d2yax3b (they're the only ones I could find in a hurry, but check out the rest of the artist's gallery for more interesting mixed media works).
@satomz: I love the idea of using an existing song and changing it into something Wintersday-themed. Just with new lyrics alone you can make it festive, and perhaps with the addition of a few GW tunes in the middle of the song, it will be more tied to the game itself.
I don't know how to read musical notes. Wish I could, so I could comment more on the song itself. :P
@frostkisses: Yay! Happy to see you entering too. The scanner problem seems to be worldwide at the moment.... mine isn't working well either.

I was being facetious but now I think about it, it does not seem trivial. Perhaps it would be worth checking the process on a short snippet of something you know well already before you put a lot of effort into adapting the music and learningthe piece on different instruments?

Ah, now I realize what Unlucky Slayer was talking about last night ^^ I haven't kept up to speed with this topic yet.lol
And hi to all the old and new faces here! Like Charliepai, I'll just put on my stalker suit and watch you guys. I wouldn't have the time to participate for this year...unless I get super inspired and able to whip up a drawing in a weekend...which would be very unlikely
And Perynne, looks great! I also like the right pic better

I'm not really any good at digital drawing, my copy of photoshop is older than the hills too but I was wanting to scan in my sketch and see if I could get something going that I liked. However, my sketch seems to be too light and I'm on the fence about making it darker so it scans. Which also makes it a problem about showing progress. I hate erasing

*squints* ... I think I can see a face! And it's holding something!
Maybe try going over the outlines with a black pen or marker, or then press down heavier on the pencil? Also, having a direct light shining on the paper might help to show it better on camera.
