Aye. One week remains to the deadline. Not a bad time to put on final touches and start submitting.
I'm still here for any questions anyone might have.

Zidane those are awesome. I would quite like to visit the first one. It is not clear how you get up to the buildings once you have followed the road through the lower gateway, a stair in the mountain maybe? Would be dark though.
Death that’s looking lovely. I like the colours and the serene atmosphere.
Thistle Can’t wait to see more. I am slightly confused by the two moons. Is the round one causing the shadow on the crescent?
Nemesis That’s a lovely sketch. I really like your style .

At first when I saw Zidane's first submission, I glanced at the top right corner and thought "who just pasted a photo?"
Then I saw the whole picture and was like

Updated and posted. I may revise the format to be a bit simpler later on.
Great thing I know and understand about deadlines: for some people, it doesn't matter how long or how little they have to work with, they'll get it done in the same time, at the same pace.
Speaking from personal experience, of course.

I'll try to whip something up this weekend. I think I now have a more vivid picture in mind on what I want..

I will be remaining rigid on the deadlines, I'm afraid. I intent to follow a particular schedule on this so it makes things easier on all parties involved. At worst, it wouldn't hurt to submit partially completed submissions if the deadline hits before you can put the final touches.
Speed painting is somewhat interpretive. I'd say the majority of that being in 1-2 hours, but I've known a few artists to call their speed paints 10 hours (as compared to a regularly timed 40+ hour work). I should think it more of a style, that you're optimizing your actions to complete a full composition in as little time as possible. You should be fine though, no worries.

How many subcategories may a piece be entered in?

As many as you like, so long as it justly qualifies.

But each piece can only win in one subcategory, max, right?
For example, I only selected traditional medium but thought it could also fit well into Great Outdoors. I could submit to both, but if I won Great Outdoors I couldnt win traditional medium with the same piece?
Just curious, is all ^^

Such awesome entries so far! I hope I'll be able to get a speedpainting done at some point during the weekend, I really, really love the idea of the contest. I just have a bad habit of taking in too much work and then not being able to get everything done in time... *sighs*
I'll be keeping an eye on this thread anyhow, and let's hope there'll be many more entries before the deadline.

that's lovely, DbA. I really enjoy seeing all the textures in traditional pieces.
I get the feeling that this photo is darker than your painting actually is tho ~

Ah yes; i mentioned it in my thread but not with my submission.
This is a picture with my friends camera held by a window with flash on (which makes it darker Dx) but much clearer. I tried it held near a window with no flash as well, and the image was incredibly bright and was practically a white square. I took like, a hundred photos all with the same results. Sifted through them, and this one was the best I could get.
Figured I'd sacrifice dark with details over bright without a painting.

I updated my previous post after some suggestions on how to make it brighter, so would you be able to change my submission info Invertation? ^^
