Araiia Arts 2011
It's been quite a while since I had a thread in Nolani. The spring semester is ending soon and I plan on getting some art in over the summer. I've barely drawn at all this past school year and that is something that needs to be rectified!
I will be posting all GW-related art that I draw during this year (2011!) as well as any other art that marks a style shift/big improvement for me.
I have no idea how much hate I'm gonna get for this, but I'm re-opening my commission thread since there are a couple 6th year tonics that I want very badly. Also, "art gallery" threads don't seem to get nearly as much attention as commission threads (where you actually 'get something' for posting.)
About this thread: Guru Forum Rules and Guidelines violations will be reported in an effort to keep this thread clean. Feel free to comment or chat about GW and art-related topics in this thread. Critique is accepted on works in progress which I may post from time to time. I will make it clear whether something I post is completed or still a WIP.
About me: I used to be a forum regular on Nolani back around '09 or so. I've taken a lot of breaks from Guru (and GW in general) throughout the years however and I'm just returning again after several months of Aion. I'm a psychology major in college (and yes, I'm analyzing you.) Digital art is one of my hobbies but compared to many of the artists on these forums I take it about as seriously as an April Fools' joke. I draw for fun and improving my art "skill" is not a priority for me, nor is using art for a steady source of income. Please bear that in mind if I show little interest in "art improvement/workshop" threads. I also have difficulty not sounding serious in forum posts.
I use two art programs: Paint Tool SAI and Photoshop CS5. SAI has very nice crisp lineart/cel shading brushes, but can't do transparent PNG backgrounds and the version I have lacks good painting brushes. CS5 can't do sharp hand-drawn lines but has a ton of filters/fun stuff, can do transparency, animation, and supports better painting brushes.
It's April already, but I've had a really dry year (artistically speaking) so far.
Smaller pics on top. Otherwise, ordered oldest to newest.

I have character profiles of my Aion Ranger Fei and GW Ranger Glint Stormrage posted on the Nolani artists' database. I have several other GW characters and OCs that I will post directly in this thread later on. Note that all my characters are female.
I'm up for art trades of just about any type or complexity. The only rule is fair trade. I prefer to draw my half of the trade as the same size and type as the other artist. ex. If you draw a fullbody lineart, I also draw a fullbody lineart. I will decline requests if I'm too busy but given past experiences I don't think this will be an issue. Ectos seem to be in much higher supply than artists with time to spend on art.
Requesting a trade: Just post on this thread. I have no form, seeing as trades are mutual agreement between artists. Forms seem too impartial and, I feel, devalues the 'personal' aspect of art. I'd also prefer that you post here instead of sending private messages in an effort to keep this thread alive, unless there's something über forbidden in your post that you don't want other people to see... >.>
I'm happy to do multiple trades with the same person, but not all at the same time.

Pfbbt no requests yet.
Guild Wars Requests: Contact me via PM, Artwork talk page, or dA. Eligibility requirements will be up soon.
Other ($): Contact me on deviantArt.

@Charlie - Thanks. I see a crap ton of new people around Nolani. It will be difficult to get up to date on things D:
@kajus - haha, I hope to have some new art later this week! I have a research paper due that I'm working on right now but once I'm done I'll have time to draw. I'm way overdue for some reference pics for my GW chars, especially since several of them have custom appearances different from the in-game designs.

@Aeronwen - Thanks. It's my second favorite bow in the game! (The first one is ridiculously hard to get and nobody runs the instance it drops from...)
@Cailin - <3
@Invertation - heh, I'm trying! Back when I did commissions I was really sparing with the WIPs because I had this (very unprofessional) mentality that having to go back and change things once I was past the sketching stage would cause my time/effort cost of a picture to be higher than the price I was getting paid for it, and I'd lose all motivation to finish the pic. It's nice to not think of art in terms of effort and money now.

A gloriously haphazard speed paint of my Ele!
I will admit I was partially inspired to experiment with this after staring at some of Kekai's black and white sketches last night.

A teaser of an experimental piece I'm working on.
Testing some Photoshop brushes as well as trying to make myself get better at picking colours.

Been a while since my last update, here's what I've been up to.
Finished version of the earlier teaser:
Something I did last night:
I found a nice set of brushes for Photoshop, so I've been on a painting spree. I didn't do a good job on the lighting of the second pic, next thing I want to work on is painting faces that aren't flat
The character customization screens of Aion and PerfectWorld (among others) are really useful for learning face structure.

Wow that assassin looks amazing! The only thing I would say is that the eyes seem to be a little too far from each other, but other then that it looks fantastic.

xD yeah, oh man. That's one of my main obstacles with painting, as soon as I put down the base colour I lose all the details from the sketch I had on the layer underneath! The end result always becomes a bit lopsided. ;p
Also - Will draw something (or several) big fancy pics in exchange for one of the 6th year tonics. If you have a tonic and are interested, post/pm with what tonic you have. |:
