Like all fan art it comes down to is if the IP holder going to exercise their right to stop fans from making and selling fan art. Is it really worth the thousands of dollars in lawyer fees to take someone to court who just made enough from their sale to go out to Waffle House for dinner? Seems overkill but is their legal right to do so. They need to protect their investments but they also have the ability to tell a little fan artist "You are such a small fry and are making things we have no plans to ever do. Don't worry, we won't sue you over it as long as you keep it unofficial and small scale". (That is one of the points I asked about, but didn't get a reply on.) I could gift people plushies and they could gift me money but I've kind of drawn attention to myself by asking permission and right now I am rather paranoid. >.< I earned that tinfoil hat on my dA I tell ya!
Finally watched How To Train Your Dragon. My husband said I can't make a 5 foot plushie Toothless. Didn't say anything about 3'-4' one though.

Sorry to hear that. Your stuff definately deserves to be reimbursed for your time and effort. They're so cute! lol@ the toothless remark *waits to see pictures*

You have a Waffle House that SERVES DINNER?!?
Anyways, that's a good question for you to ask them. I've always sort of wondered about that myself. I don't think you really need to bust out the tin-foil hat yet. Though I'd maybe keep an eye out on the "money-gifts" if you end up giving your work away as gifts. Wouldn't want to wake up one morning with a severed horse plushy head in your bed.

This is a disappointment that you can no longer sell these. However, if you would be willing to give people help on how to make their own simple skill bracelets and such, I think it would be greatly appreciated by people such as myself . Of course it's your thing so its entirely up to you whether to spread your genius.
Also, I'm wondering if there would be any safe "generic" yet GW-related crafts you could sell?

Awww thats so sweet! I hope you entered the http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/g...t10459602.html contest. Maybe you can win the jingle one too. If you want to retie the knots on the summoning stone follow these instructions to make it adjustable.

Agreed
And that mesmer skill bracelet you made looks REALLY nice. Personally if you wouldn't mind sharing I'd really like to know how to make one of those. I'm going to be going for Ele and/or Derv skills for the bracelet ^^

I've got people arguing to me that I was just told that Anet cannot give me permission or approval, it was not a cease and desist. I'm also being informed I am a spaz and a worrywart. >.< So unfortunately I will be currently saying if you wish to make your own jewelry you will have to learn from tutorials online and not from me. One of my possible ideas for the Wintersday contest is a bunch of GW based pretties so it would be rather self defeating to give out all my secrets right now.

Koreena,
Those plushies are amazing!! I hope you don't have to make space and get rid of any of them. There might be a new quest to save the Black Moa.
Also, congrats on winning in the 2010 Halloween Art Contest!! I knew that Mad King looked familiar.

I think there's another way around if you wanna keep making the plushies and jewelry for other people. If people pay for the cost of making the plushies (the material cost) you are technically still giving them away, and then the one who get's the plushie can give you a "tip" or a gift of a small sum of money for your work.
Also, I am wondering about the creative freedom, technically all of your plushies are your own creations, right? You designed them based on guild wars things, but you made the designs and patterns, right?

Yeah I tend to operate that way anyhow for custom work, which all my plushies are. I don't have them in a shop with prices listed, all ready to ship. I'm just doing the grunt work for people who don't have the ability or time. I am still not going to throw up a flashing sign saying "Look, I make GW stuff! Place your orders here!" and if Anet wants to go after someone for using their IP maybe they should go after the people on CafePress first.
As far as I can tell the patterns are considered my own. Can't take one of my moas, rip it apart and make copies using it as a template. Oh the thought of ripping apart a moa plushie makes my heart ache....
If next week's project works out you guys are going to go SQUEE!!!! And it's not a plushie or jewelry.

It's a very fine line to tread.
If you drew an original character, something you were very proud of and perhaps used it in comics of your own so that you could make some money, would you like it if someone started making plushies of your character and selling them? Especially if that person didn't give you any money, and only notes on their site that the character is originally yours.
I would love to buy Koreena's GW plushies and those lovely bracelets. But I do understand that it's a difficult thing that some companies don't like, and that they have a right to not allow it. It's their original creation after all, and they're not getting a cent out of it.
Fan creations are a wonderful way of showing your love for a series, but selling them for your own profit kind of takes it beyond that.
Anyhow, I'm not saying that selling fanart or other fan creations is wrong, as long as it's kept to a smaller scale. I've bought several such things from artists before and even made a few for my friends (some of which I sold for irl money). I think the way Koreena's doing/selling the fan items should be allowed, since she's really not doing it on a larger scale or even made much of a profit out of it. Still, Anet can't monitor her every hour of the day, so they want to keep her from becoming a billionaire while they still can.
@Koreena: Eee, can't wait to see it! <3
