I knew the fabric was really textured, so I picked out a sari brocade for the white and I already had the corduroy for the tan. It's coming out wonderfully and I'm super excited!

Hehe, I got fabric today for my sylvari mesmer, can't wait until I actually have a free moment to start it
And I love the textured brocade you got for the trim; I got a brocade for the accents for mine as well.

Gonna start work today on my costume. Yay ^^
The fabric I got - the green is a bit darker and less olivey than it shows here; the brocade is a purple and light green pattern on a very dark green. The dark green of the brocade almost matches the green of the main material, which is nice
The two sketch ideas I had for the main dress/jacket. Idea #2 is the one I'm going to ultimately go with. It'll be made out of the green fabric, with the collar and open top part lined with the brocade. The skirt part will have gores made with the brocade as well, to make it fuller. I'm kind of going with a flowerbud theme here; I will be a spring sylvari apparently ^^ The skirt will also be longer in the back than the front.
And the wig I got I may do some styling to it later on, but I shall see. It definitely needs a brush taken to it, that's for certain. And yes, it matches my glasses.

Not letting this thread die o.o Cailin, come back!
Basically copy-pasted from my thread here
So I'm working on my sylvari costume because ACen is this weekend, and I kind of need to get it finished already...dress is not ready enough for pictures, but I just finished (mostly) the wig!
Looks kind of bleh from the front right now, since I have the bangs pinned back to dry so that they'll be less in the way...
From the side and back, though, looks better.
It's not what I originally wanted to do, but what I originally wanted wasn't something I'd be able to pull off with this wig. Still looks damn cute, though, I think!

Yes indeedy! This is my...ninth year going to ACen, and sixth on staff.
Dress is now nearly complete, I just need to hem the skirt...but I'm too tired and lazy to take pics of it right now.

Yep! I will hopefully spend less time in our rooms this year, though XD
Edit: Dress is complete! It looks utterly unimpressive on a hanger, but in person and on it looks quite nice.
There'll be pictures of me in it next week

wow, Verene, that dress looks so pretty! I really like the green, pink and purple colours you've used, it's one of my fav combos. The dress looks very well constructed too, can't wait to see it on you! Be sure to post pictures!

Thanks, Tzu It's one of my favorite color combos as well, and I thought it was perfect for a sylvari costume ^^ I won't have pictures until next week, since I won't be back until Monday evening, but I will definitely post some. I actually cut a lot of corners in the construction (...I usually do ^^; ) but I think I did at least do a decent job designing it for the fact that I'm not a thin girl.
Making a pair of boot covers now, since you can't be a Mesmer without knee/thigh-high boots, and I lack an actual pair myself. Pro-tip: when instructions for doing that say "use stretch fabric"...don't think you can BS your way through with non-stretchy fabric

teehee, boot-covers are fun. At least when you get it right. First time I made a pair I fudged them up so badly...and it was mainly, as you said, because I used a fabric with little stretch (it was so pretty though ). Well-constructed boot cover look nicer than a pair of store-bought "this-looks-a-bit-similar" pair of shoes. Especially when it comes to thigh-highs... the store-bought ones are often not "thigh high" as much as they're "over knee", and are loose and tight in al the wrong places. Looking forward to more progress!
