Why thank you I hope anet feels the same way. I could careless if I'm a 'Winner'; I just want an honourable mention so i can get one of those Mad King Guard minis! They're so awesome q___q
And I've always been told that (unless you're using greyscale, I suppose) you should avoid pure blacks. I guess the reasoning behind that is that pure black is usually quite strong (hence why you use less black paint when mixing or else you get a very dark colour) and is kind of overpowering. That and I think some teacher told me that in nature there is very little "true" black; there are lots of shades of dark dark grey (or a light black, i guess) but not much is actually going to be pure black. That might not be true though :/ So i just tend to avoid using pure black if I can make a conscious effort of it.

Pure black means no light at all what so ever never. And this, in nature, hardly happens. So yeah, to draw realistically avoiding black is often a good thing. Besides that, black is just black. You can do so much more with slightly toned blacks.

There ya go, I knew it had SOMETHING to do with it's rarity in nature. The exception would be like, a sealed cave. But then, youd have just a black rectangle because ANY lightsource would remove the blackness. Even birds like ravens aren't pure black; their feathers have a saturated blue-black sheen to them in sunlight.

Oh, right I should actually post the finished piece here http://kalinotora.deviantart.com/art...Stew-261193684
@ thistle xandra: Your costume looks awesome!
@ penguin: I have no words for how good that looks.
@ Death by arrow: I know how tempting using black can be, but your piece looks great and didn't need it!

The pumpkins i grew over summer and used two of them for this.
I wish everyone luck and happy halloween!

Well, I have been pretty inactive these past 3 weeks. Didn't feel like drawing (someone close to me passed away), but I am back now
First of all massive thanks to Ravenhawk and Bonjela for those excellent suggestions. I took most, if not all, into v2 of the sketch here.
I'll take any critiques I can get but for now here's the plan:
20th: All the details and any changes + Work on background
21st: Finish background and submit
(started again kind of close to the due date but hopefully it'll work out)
Also, going through this thread = Makes me feel super bad but also super motivated because of all the talent. Wonderful entries everyone!
EDIT: The left leg seems Kinda short :/ Why do I notice these things AFTER I post them...
EDIT2: Need opinions of the second speech bubble "..."
Would it work or is the "crossing" get kind of confusing? I don't want to put it there unless it adds something to the picture. Any opinions would be appreciated.

@EtherealByte: Yeah, the crossed speech bubbles are a little confusing. I know you're dealing with a right-to-left which-comes-first issue, but you could always offset your bubbles one above the other. Also, maybe consider using a thought bubble for the countess's "..." Or even a weary "sigh" like this happens all the damn time.
I can't draw, like, at all anymore -- especially not with a mouse. So I used a presentation program to give you a rough idea with shapes:

My deepest condolences to you and those close to you right now. *hug*

Well... Here is my almost final entry. The background is a bit darker than it appears in the picture. I'll have to scan it in a few hours since the Camera doesn't capture it properly. Other than some working with the background, I think I have it complete. I'd color it but I am horrible with that.
@Star_Jewel: Thanks. I really liked your second idea and so I will go with that

The final version will be uploaded there as well.
A thank you to everyone in this thread. I had a lot of fun (the 2-3 days I participated in :P).
Edit: How does this work? Are we supposed to email Verene with our entries or what?
