If you dont plan on entering the official contest, then anything is game Someone used minecraft to make pixel-art, where each square was sort of a pixel. Was very cool. I can only assume that your sculpture will be just like that
If you finish it before the deadline for the official contest, you should still enter it. It sounds to me like you are using minecraft more as a program to sculpt than taking a popular character/iconic image from minecraft and using it in your art. Who knows, maybe minecraft will be a new artform.

Updated to here. As ever, If you find any errors or I have missed anyone please pm me.
*wonders where Verene is*
@ Sura I like better now that it is not so dark and I can see more of the details.
@ Thistle I just read the whole lot. The costume is looking good so far. I am amazed by how much work you are putting into it. The fabrics look absolutely gorgeous.
@ bebe I would love to go on your server and see what you are up to
@Kiya I love the colour of the skirt
@ Sauerkraut I read it through, but got so caught up in the story I forgot to be critical. The only thing that stood out to me was the first 3 sentences, I would change it round, start with the comfortable inn and move out to the cold and scary pumpkin patch.
@ Marsh – that bear is going to slide in!
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Mini bear, and owlet's wing,—
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

Small update: the bulk of the mad king is in the oven right now.
Let's hope nothing sacks, bends, breaks or whatever.
I'm at work in half an hour so when I get home tonight I'll start on his hands and head and some minor details.
Not like last night: My girlfriend bought me Rage for the Ps3 and I got a little distracted from the contest(*cough till 4:30am cough*)

@Aeronwen, I think you're right about the beginning. Thanks for reading! : D
@Odinius, lookin' good, but I have to admit that your progress picture just makes me want to see Thorn in flipflops.

@Odinius: That's looking great! It's all done with clay? How did you get the fur lining to look so flocked?
@everyone else: You guys are coming along wonderfully! I'm so impressed by the level of talent you all have. Makes me wish I'd made more attempts at being actively artsy, instead of just an appreciator/amateur critic.

Oh dear, I'm afraid that one got a bit lost in translation there.
Flipflops in Dutch are slippers and when MKT was looking for his left slipper last year I immediatly thought of a slipper thus flipflop.
Now I realise that they meant those things you put on when you come out of bed with those furry parts that cover the top of your foot.
Oh well I'll see if want to change that feature, the flipflop does look funny though :P

Yes, the one rule I have when making threse things for the contests is; that everything has to be made of clay (except for lighting).
My girlfriend said I should use real feathers and hobbygrass etc, but I said that not using stuff like that is going to amaze people (atleast that's what I hope).
For the fur effect I tried different things, I tried with one of those small colored sponges but that left green hairs in the clay, then I tried scraping small bits of clay from another piece and one by one applying them to the furry parts but it didn't always work and took too long really.
Now I used a sharp toothpick and stuck it in the clay diagonally and pulling it upwards making small ruptures in the clay, fast and satisfactory

O.K.
I know the contest deadline is a few days away, but MY deadline is tomorrow afternoon as a few parts of my project are being turned in to pies for Thanksgiving (it's Monday for us Canadians).
I am by no means an artist, or all that crafty, so this is the sketch I did a few days ago when I got home with the pie pumpkins. I've done more, and will post them up later, but for now I figure I could at least share my "concept art" ... hahahaha! I'm laughing because I know it looks really really bad so please feel free to laugh WITH me.
