I finally got around to registering an account! Now I just need to set my girlfriend up with one and we'll be in business. I still have to get caught up with the thread so far but I have a comment/question or two.
Odinius@In the future, you should try to work with a wire armature; they're pretty easy to set up and they're a tremendous help when it comes to attaching limbs and keeping them in position! I really like what you've done so far and I'll be honest, I haven't been as bold in my own sculpey creations to use different colored clay; I tend to make myself suffer through painting everything! But yeah, really awesome so far and I'm digging the lacing around/beneath the back part.
If/when you get to the columns, have you considered using a texture spray paint to give it a rocky/stony look?
Might as well put my submission entry up now; I will hopefully begin work on it today, granted I can get what I need from the store(s).

Been a busy few days.
Did a life-casting of my son to make him a custom mask, buried a cat, harvested an acre of corn...
Nearly finished Corpse 1 for the contest, started on corpse 2:

Wow, they look real creepy!
@ Rends with Tongue
Wire armature doesn't really work with this type of clay.
1st because it doesnt stick to the frame and 2nd the polymer clay is a bit like putty; you really need to keep shaping and turning it in all directions to get an even surface.
sanding it afterwards is not an option either.
The glossyness goes away after baking it so I hope the columns look real enough, I'l add some cracks to them to make it seem more realistic.
The entire backdrop has to be done in one go though, otherwise you'll get gaps between the different parts.
And the colored clay is real fun to work with and they act like paint (you can mix them to get other colors and they stain very bad. Washing your hands after each color is needed not to stain your lighter colors.
Tomorrow I'll put the legs on my half-plucked Moa and connect it with the headless lunatic so they can keep eachother standing.
After that The Mad King on top of his throne.
I'll keep updating my progress gallery and post some shots here tomorrow.

@UnOrthOdOx: Very creepy!
@the person who made the longboard: Holy crap, that's awesome. I would buy that if I could skateboard (and if it was for sale).
@the person who made the cake: looks delicious; too bad it's just a photo
(still going through the entries)
I'm not entering the workshop (kinda hard to post progress of music), but here's my entry (nightmarish sylvari homeland music / GW1 halloween music):

I updated the first post with everyone's entries. It took a lot longer than I expected so I am leaving any more tidying up until tomorrow. If I have missed out anyone or made a mistake please pm me.
Unorthodox I think yours entry changed but I will do that tomorrow.

I'll still finish the bridge, there's just no way it's up before the deadline. But, yes, it changed from the one in the first post.

These workshops are the only reason I come back to GW1G. :P I guess it wouldn't hurt anything to enter, then.

So the 'mood' of my piece has changed from this big confrontation with MKT to more of a ... summoning. When I finish work tonight I'll post more pictures, but I only finished the sketch and painted the gems/teeth :X Have to do homework later as well, so I dont think I'll get more done today. We'll see.

Yay, first part of my scene is almost complete!
Tomorrow I'll add some more ingredients and stuff on the table, the cauldron will be filled and I'll add some leftover feathers on the Moa and scatter some white ones on the ground.
Phew, about 2 hours more work and I can start on the main man.
NOW GIMME MY MOA SOUP, my soul is demented, can't you see I'm in agony?! Muhahahahaaaaa

Your creation is very realistic and that freaks me out
How do people in your neighborhood react, any police visits yet?
For the one on the left; maybe you can put his hands closer together and tilt his head to the side a little so he looks more 'tied up' instead of happy to see you.

Well, this model skeleton doesn't have a head tilt function (I had to decapitate the other one to get the tilt), and the the arms are limited in range. I think I'm gonna curb him, and swap him places with Fred (technically, they are all Fred, but that's a long story...).
This one is much lighter, so will be easier on the spit, and Fred is more limber, but still no head tilt possible.
I only corpsed the new ones to get a jump on next year, hadn't planned to have them at all before this came up, just stockpiling skeletons for next year, and I'm out of supplies to make more/do any major surgery on these as a result.
I have had the cops called, and legal action threatened.
The former was a misunderstanding by a neighbor child on seeing me stain skulls in April, in his defense, it DID look like I was pulling them from a bucket of blood. The latter was one particular neighbor mistakenly thinking we fall under their HOA jurisdiction.
We've had a truce the last few years, but this particular display is sure to annoy her some more, which is why I want it up, get my pics, and get it back down. It'll rest in the back yard on Halloween so they don't have to see it.
The rest of the neighborhood loves what we do. I get everyone stopping, honking and waving, etc whenever we are out working on something.

Another update
Still putting in bases, ran out of room in my makeshift palette bin thing for the browns of the armor, so I am waiting until i'm relatively done with everything else I've already mixed before tossing out that sheet of paint and starting the browns. Then itll be the cliff (still dont know what i wanna do with that), then detailing for MKT, then the clouds, then the moon, and then the sky.
@UnOrthOdOx You know you're doing something right when people start to think you're dealing with REAL dead bodies But, why are they taking legal action now if the child saw the skulls in april? :S

SO I was in the grocery store the other day and I saw pie pumpkins ... and The Ballad of Peter Pumpkin Head by XTC came on the radio ... and I had a thought that involved pumpkins and Guild Wars and I figured that many signals from the universe must mean SOMEthing other than I was really craving pumpkin pie because I already knew that.
5 pie pumpkins in hand I headed home, rummaged through the sewing room, and re-emerged with a bunch of stuff that will hopefully make sense when I'm done with it.
I'll leave it at that. I took a few pics with my phone earlier, but I'm lazy and they're still on my phone.

No, separate events from past years.
The kid was a new neighbor a few years back. We had a laugh about it, and he's always over asking how I do this or that now.
The ones across the street attempted legal action the second or third year we were here. They were not happy with someone not following the HOA rules that allow nothing other than "fall" decorations. They also made someone in the HOA take down one of those blow up things. The HOA group ends at my house. The house across the street and everything to my right is an HOA, me and everything left is not. I find Christmas around here very creepy in the stepford wives sense. Every house identical with their HOA provided clear lights, wreath and porch garland.....
We've had this truce since I switched themes last year to be mostly 'fall' decor, and I'm sure they'll be upset this morning when they see this.

Odinius@ Are you using sculpey? I haven't had any issues with wire armatures myself while using the "super sculpey" kind, but if it works -- which clearly it is for you -- then don't fix what ain't broken. I am curious to know how you went about texturing the white plummage and the intact wing -- did you layer 2 pieces of black or did you just cut a lot away from a single thin sheet of black? The wing just seems extra 3-dimensional. I'm enjoying the detailing of the feathers, and really just the combination of all the subtle textures you've got going on.
And also: When you combine the different colors, like the white claws and the orange moa leg; do you bake the pieces and then glue them together, or stick them together pre-bake? I'm not familiar with the color polymer clay and I'm curious as to how you piece things together without mashing the colors up during the process.
You've actually inspired me to attempt a small creation using colored clay, as an accompaniment to my larger Grenth statue! I'll probably try to post some progress pics tonight after I get more clay. I've already used about 2 lb. of super sculpey on the grenth statue and still have the either side to bulk out -- and that's WITH aluminum foil and a 1 in. rod taking up space already. >.>

I've slept on it, and looked at more pics. I do think I need to decapitate the left and get the head tilted. Even for the use coming next year.
