Thanks a lot. Was bored one night so decided how much I could make myself look like a zombie with some lipstick, eyeshadow and toilet paper.
As for the cake pictures, having a hard time color balancing them.
And for the drawing, thanks. ^^ Colored pencils are and probably always will be my favorite medium.

@Followedbyrocks: Ooooh, that lineart/sketch looks really nice! I like what I see so far, and I'm sure it's gonna keep being awesome
@UnOrthOdOx: Wow, just wow O.O it's turning out pretty awesome though, and I really like that you turn the carvings back to soil. Pumpkin seeds are very healthy to eat, because of what you said, we eat it as candy here.
@Draken Burst: It would be fun to see how you structure your colour pencil drawings, as in a detailed walk-through.

The wind howled in the streets of Kamadan and seemed to follow him in even the smallest corridor.
Noah had tried trick-or-treating once more but it turned out to be as futile as last year.
His father had told him that he should earn the candy not just ask for it.
“Here is a scythe. Now go fetch yourself some candy son. “ his father said.
But Noah was no fighter and did not have the money to pay for mercenary heroes.
That is how he ended up shivering in the small pathway between two houses.
Too afraid to check what had been chasing him for the last hour and too tired to even lift his head.
He could hear the footsteps, faintly at first but they soon got louder and louder.
Gradually he became calm as he took comfort in whatever was approaching him it would be there soon.
The last few steps were loud as thunderclaps and only the omnious breathing remained.
Noah was no longer alone in the corridor and he could sense that it was now standing right in front of him.
Determined he raised his head to take a look at his doom.
He was shocked, nothing could have prepared him for this. A pumpkin head? This must be the mad king, he thought.

@Penguin: omg, your vid is amazing :O
@koreena: when I was looking at different cosplays to do, I actually looked at the lunatic one and thought of your Mad King Thorn last year and how it would be so cool if you did the lunatic one (including pumpkin head) XD So, I'm glad you're doing it, because it's going to look amazing!
@UnOrthOdOx: I want to be a kid in your neighborhood during Halloween :P I can'at believe how amazing it's already looking (expecially the corpse :O )
@Sura: I really love the violet hue with the touch of orange! Only suggestion I can think of is maybe wrapping a minion on her arm or leg? The one on the top is a little ambiguous if it's hunting her or being her pet (although I know you mean the latter) and showing her petting or being aware of a minion would clear that up I love the look of that minion btw!
@odinius: ooh yay! I'm so looking forward to seeing another one of your amazing clay creations! I like the idea of the 6 gods for the statues, but since it's Halloween, what if you do 6 versions of Mad King Thorn (like either pretending to be each of the 6 gods or making different faces/poses/emotes).
@Firefighter Fred: Nice! It made me think of a cross-stitch pattern at first
@Draken Burst: I'm so jealous of your charrlie! They were sold out when I looked on their site :*( I love that cake, but the pic does seem really saturated with orange Maybe if you change the table and floor color slightly in PS, it won't look so saturated and make the cake and Charrlie pop out?
@Panda Claws: Yay for more lit Like others have said, if you're looking for a good progress gallery place, Wordpress.com is a great spot to start

That would make an awesome embroidery, I was almost a bit disappointed that it wasn't, because it'd be bitchin' to have on the wall.
|
Hrumm, I guess next year's project has been decided. First I gotta learn how to do embroidery though...Also I dont think lava will stay up on the wall very well. There might be melting...
@Panda Claws:
The first five lines are a bit confusing I think. Not that they dont make literal sense, but it seems that there are some thoughts that are introduced that are not explained. It could just be me, but when you say "as futile as last year" I want to know how futile last year was. I've got no point of reference. Maybe futile means he only got 10 pounds of candy instead of 50 pounds. Also, being told to go "earn his candy" and being handed a scythe, must be a rough neighborhood? I did like the "not being able to afford mercenary heroes" line. Also, based on the fact that "he was no fighter" and then "ended up shivering in [a] small pathway" I have to assume that he got into a fight and lost? I like the start of this so far, but I personally think that a couple extra sentences giving a bit more information would be nice to add. Hope what I just typed out makes at least a little sense

Thanks I appreciate your opinion and will look into it. Some of these things can be explained however by the fact that it is basically a joke on the concept that in Guild Wars you have to kill monsters to get your trick-or-treat bags. (People do not just give the candy.) But a little more explanation is probably needed especially in some of your other examples.

@Draken Burst . I made an attempt to colour balance your cake. Lots of colour balance sliding, playing and adjusting layers that I cant even remember what I did.
---------------
Yep, I will be the one wearing my costume this year.
My house blocks tv signals something fierce. If I don't have the foil on the antennae the reception drops by like 40%. And that is right next to an outside wall too.
I have learned that I should not be working on my costume at 1 in the morning no matter how awake I think I am. Going to take a little break from the bodice and start on the skirt after work tonight.

Sure, I'll try one of my GW characters or something. The picture I posted I drew while I was deployed in 2009 ( army.) So I couldn't really scan the progress. I mailed it to A-net for the official contest but I don't think it made it in time. So decided to post it here this year instead of an official contest in case by chance they did get it.

Oh wow, thanks. I don't have photoshop, and trying to do it in gimp wasn't working out for me. :P
But yes, it stands out more clearly now.

Nobody would give him or the other children candy in this city.
But there are always heroes and the they are given candy by the townsfolk, he thought to himself.
His father had told him that he should earn the candy and not just ask for it. “Here is a scythe. Now go fetch yourself some candy son. “ his father said. But Noah was no fighter and did not have the money to pay for mercenary heroes.
He had been trick-or-treating for hours but he was mostly ignored.
The most he ever got was a sad smile and a pat on the back.
He felt like everyone knew something he did not.
Dissapointed he returned home and saw it for the first time.
It seemed like a shadow but Noah was not going to take any chances.
He knew the stories well, perhaps it was Kjelhe the chained, Hulgard the weary , Greir the frozen or any of the other monsters.
Noah was frightened beyond belief and convinced that it was waiting for him in the mist.
He ran and kept running but the footsteps kept coming back.
That is how he ended up shivering in the small pathway between two houses.
Too afraid to check what had been chasing him for the last hour and too tired to even lift his head.

@GeminiJusa she's about 20cm in height and it takes about 30 mins to harden out in the oven.
@UnOrthOdOx The polymer clay gets softer and softer the longer you work it and since arms and hands need a lot of handling and need to be put in a specific position while baking.
If I attach a stretched out arm it will bend down while baking and hardens in bad positions.
The clay does not stick well to wood or iron which makes working with a frame nearly impossible.
@Aeronwen I'll be there this wintersday! Last years one stood on display for a month in the store where I bought the clay and is now collecting dust on top our bedroom closet.
@Thistle Xandra Happy to be here, although time is very short I'll try to put in as much stuff as possible.
I'm really excited to see all your entries completed, great work everyone!

This is my questionable paragon, I Swear Im Straight. ( Yes I know, females playing male toons kind of odd yeh, but you'll understand when he's colored.) Finished the line art, will work on inking and coloring it next. ( This is not for the contest, just doing as requested above.)
Inking done, detail added. (Scary part is over.) Coloring next.
Started some of the coloring and shading.
Nearly done with the coloring/shading.

@UnOrthOdOx: Wow, it must be awesome to be a kid in your neighbourhood at Halloween. That Carving Party sounds great, what a great idea! Also, you've definitely taught me a lot about the usefulness of pumpkins.
@GeminiJuSa : Thanks! It's nice to know you think it looks awesome. =3
@Panda Claws: I'm liking the story so far...but what's with the sentences being all on separate lines? Unless it's a style or formatting thing in which case disregard everything I'm about to say. But the fact that they're all quite short sentences and all on different lines give it a really...choppy and broken feel when you're reading it. It doesn't flow very well. I'd recommend maybe trying to vary your sentence lengths up a little bit and having standard paragraphs ? I would also possibly try to add a bit more variety to the type of punctuation you're using. There's really only commas and full stops/periods. How about a colon, semi-colon, or a hyphen somewhere? It's a small detail but it can really help the reader when reading a story to have different types of pauses.
I know these are probably very nit-picky critiques, though. So feel free to ignore me if you want.
@Draken Burst: Hmmmm, I like I Swear Im Straight very much. I don't think it's odd that you're a girl wanting to play a toon that looks like he does. He's very fabulous.
I'm currently in the process of starting the colouring/shading on my piece. I'll post a pic when it's a bit more substantial than it is at the moment.

@ bonjela and Sura - Thank you both for the wonderful critique! I've done what I could, adding more shadows especially on the skirt and bustle to imply the depth, as well as the place Sura suggested.
@ draken burst -I love the cake and charr plushie pictures, they're great!

I am not saying I am doubting you but that looks a lot like it was made with one of those minecraft programs that help you with making it ingame. I started on a little project (without one of those programs) and it is a LOT of work to reconfigure a photo in minecraft. Not to mention the counting.. oh lord the counting and placing blocks..
How long did it take you to make this?

Sheila, you can still join in! Though the deadline is earlier than last year (which im still a little boggled with, perhaps they need that extra time for new content? ) you still have two weeks to create something! So if you have the time, the more the merrier

I wasnt keeping exact time, but I think it took somewhere between 12 and 15 hours to complete. Also, I think the program you're referring to is a world editor? If so, that is not what I used. I actually used a program designed to convert pictures into LEGO schematics to turn the pictures I used into "pixelated" pictures. While not designed for Minecraft, LEGO bricks and Minecraft blocks have a pretty good 1:1 ratio when making something...
And if you want the utility I used...

Started putting in my bases this morning... taking a while. Fear for the time D: I have 2 days where I do not work before the contest ends. only 2. Q__Q So I'm gunna have to paint whenever I get an hour or two to spare at any point in time. I have a few tests and some projects due this week, so there may days where I don't have anything to do on my spare and I may get time to paint there. But anywho, this is just bases so far. The sketch is editted a little bit from earlier, but not drastically (the anatomy was hard to adjust, did what I could)
