lol thanks Perynne. I also noticed that I tend to draw males looking to the right (esp on profile view) while females towards the left. I dunno if that says something about which part of my brain dominates my artistic side but I was born left handed and got forced to be a righty and so now I draw with my right hand.
Started typing the tutorial text and 895 words so far...man, this is going o be lenghty. I wouldn' be surprised if the viewers are gonna fall asleep before they even finish reading. It's probably gonna be a multi-part thing.
EDIT - decided to do the tutorial on my next one where I have an idea of the overall picture of what I want to draw (CLUE: Either QUeen Jennah from Destiny's Edge or a ver2 of Mina's redesigned armor. I got both rough sketches already). Having a sketch pad handy is kind of a double edged sword...I get to draw concepts/ideas I get at will...then I am left with so many things that I want to finish digitally >_<
My thinking process for this new ranger art is a bit random and confusing that's why I decided to skip it. =P
It goes like this in a super duper compact nutshell
-Rough sketch. Looks decent. Sure let's color it
-Scan, load in Photoshop, Fixes in anatomy, rendering, shading
-Oh what background do I want, *gets an idea and decides to draw it*
-Drawing just the head and shoulder looks boring with the background I chose. *adds bow and hand*
-Oh lighting needs to be fixed. doh.
-And then I get to coloring lol.
If you're wondering about the poker drawing, I am still planning to finish it lol

Here you go Perynne, I mean for Mara =P Background is still pretty rough so does everything else.
Thanks again Charliepai for the critique.
Feel free to let me know if you find anything else..This has become one of my monthly pieces that I want to perfect as much as I can. I am gonna try to add some more embers flying around later on as inspired by Charlie's Heart Break-' *ahem* I meant 'Helmet Breaker'

nooooo, but I was looking so forward to your tutorial now!
On a side note, totally envious on how you did that braid... Are you doing the GW diva: hunk addition series now since Tommy won't? I guess it wouldn't be 'diva' though... And we'd have to include Pery's gorgeous version of Ran... so our GW hunk series is now GW hunks: Ran?

Aww okay maybe I can still make it after this and make it look like I knew what I was doing in the beginning lol! But you guys are in for the secret that this is actually one of the most random pieces I made.

LOL! ........And Charlie said he /might/ draw Ran. I might just run and sell ectos so I can have Tyrni draw him too?
Can't say I am complaining though XD

Hm.... perhaps I should undertake the GW hunks series since I already have the ranger drawn? Though it would take a small forever for me to finish, since at the moment I got so many other projects too.
Wooo, can't wait for the tutorial! I love seeing tutorials of other people's artistic processes. Your Ran is looking good so far, I like the idea of having the burning forest in the background with embers flying around. That's a really awesome place ingame and would be great to draw someday.
Hm...
Maybe for Invertation's landscape contest.... :3
Also, Mara thanks you. She's itching to print it out and put it in frames on her bedside table.

DO EET! I am serious. You're so good at this. If I hadn't buried myself with to-do list this year, I'd do it as well. Right now I am still one artwork behind. I need two pictures for my Calendar project to finish this Feb. I also want to work on Nian's art trade. So many things I want to draw, so little time.
If I could draw every idea I had right away, we'd have Nolani Girls sailor soldiers at this point (yes, I seriously considered this. In fact, I had Tzu sketched as Sailor Moon for some reason >_<).

That sounds wicked. Uh..there's a burning forest place in GW? I didn't know that? O-o I basically decided to deviate from the usual ranger-y backdrop of lush forest and wilderness. I wanted to combine the expected and unexpected so I came up with - Burning Forest. I'll post the stand alone background once I am done because I painted the entire thing.

Lol, well if you get Charlie and Tyrni to draw Ran, I can't stay behind. So in that case I'll draw him too When I have time..
And Mina, the burning forest is in the Charr areas, near the entrance of Kathandrax.

Oh wow..now I am motivated!
lol, we'll see what Charlie does.
Tyrni, I can probably get the gold if I get my mesmer to don her prettiest dress and stand in Kamadan selling ectos. rofl. I can imagine her glaring at me right now right beside Ran =P.

Is that an eotn area? I dont think I've done that part yet. I am done with Norn/Asura stuff though and just on to Ebon Vanguard help thingy missions. I'll check it out or look for screenshots (that would be easier lol).

Fine, I'll see how much of my to-do list I manage to get done this week and next week, and then perhaps start doing the hunks. It's a very tempting idea since I do need practice drawing more guys (and I also enjoy drawing them!).
However, I got very many projects at the moment too: your workshop (which I've already started the drawing for), the landscape contest entry, birthday gift for Noanoa, art-trade with Nian, a commission, entry for an OC tournament in deviantART, a couple of collaborations plus my freelance illustration jobs.
I hope to have half of these finished by the end of next week. Chances are I'll only manage one third and then get sidetracked by something else. :P
The burning forest is in the Charr lands, all the way at the south-eastern area, in the south-eastern corner. I highly recommend going to see it because it's really, REALLY well done and awesome. No main quests go there though, they just go nearby. There's a couple of smaller quests that lead you there.

LOL! Well I have a pretty bad habit of associating popular characters with other characters I am familiar with. I was talking about Sailormoon with Overlord of GW2Guru in my art thread and just came up with some weird association of some of the well-known Nolani girls and their Sailor Soldier counterparts (based on personalities and/or looks in general).
Sailormoon - Tzu. Blonde hair and the braids gave it away plus I always have the impression that Tzu is like one of the most popular (if not, the most popular) Nolani girl character here.
Sailor Mercury - Katherine Salmatori. I remember Sailor Mercury to be pretty studious which kinda fits the teacher persona Katherine has.
Sailor Mars - Was a toss up between Mina and Frost Kisses. Might pick Frost actually because Mina is also similar to Sailor Pluto so I can probably give her that.
Sailor Venus - Minami's necro. Fashionista and likes pretty things. Your all around girl that you can count on.
Sailor Jupiter - Perynne's ranger kind of remind me of her. Especially after reading her profile.
Sailor Pluto - As mentioned, she also reminds me of Mina - looks and personality wise but the more serious side of Mina. The feisty/short tempered side is more Sailor Mars . lol
Tuxedo Mask
So yeah my crazy idea stops there lol. It's obviously not done yet ...but I was like uh yeah...I am crazy maybe I should do something more productive.

Hahaha, that's awesome. I can't even think of who'd be a good match for Farai - probably Neptune. That same sort of quiet, serious elegance.
And LOL at Tuxedo Mask, that would be epic.
And the burning forest in the Charr Homelands you have to go through to get to one of the dungeons...Catacombs of Kathandrax, I think?

Oooh, I wanna see the Sailor Moon Nolani girls too! I love Sailor Moon, it's the first anime I ever saw so it has a lot of nostalgic value for me.
Yay for Pery being Sailor Jupiter. You're right, green sporty girl is totally her. Also, Charlie would make a great Tuxedo Mask. XD

{waves hands in air} Me, too! I want to join the crowd and draw Ran Although if my last male portrait is any indication, he'll probably be a sad ranger D:... but at least his clothes will be textured nicely
Oh dear, Pery, you have so much to do! I thought I was bad making an intense to-do list, but mine is over a month and I was only planning on hitting half of them to consider it a success
Raven, I never watched sailor moon D: but I bet your version will be amazing, especially with Nolani folks as your model XD
(I've never been to Burning Forest either o_O)

Oooh Thistle, feel free to draw him! I love seeing different styles in drawing my characters.
And it's done:

11 more to go...
and something I did just for fun:
Now to sell those ectos....

So offtopic (because its not about sailormoon), but when you do the tutorial how do you plan on doing it? Is it going to be a collage of images, or like a sped-up video of you painting?
Ive spent like, an hour watching painting videos because the process is so amazing. Most of its been with idrawgirls.
Ex. Images (the first set)
ex. Video (of the same image)
Fun fact; this is all with ArenaNet's own Xia Taptara =]

It's going to be images. I can get rid of unnecessary steps I did that way and simplify the whole process =P

Haha thanks Frost. Maybe I will someday ^_^
Time for an update. I said in my DA Journal that I was gonna work on a two person fighting scene but it would involve Ran again. Then i found a nice reference pose fitting one of the other characters , Vale (ranger in GW but this is my redesigned version. I don't own this character, he belongs to a guildmate). I wanted an action pose because I really never done anything like that before.
Face/hair has no reference though (and they are on another layer so I can move/resize them).
My old drawing of him (was having an art block in this one. I don't really like it lol)
http://roguemina.deviantart.com/art/The-Shade-175500594
Still working out the anatomy for the most part . So any help is appreciated.
