Alright, so just another (non-)update from me:
I CAN SEE THE END...
...of all this school work that is. My summative biology project is nearly complete (and is a masterpiece in its own right... >.>) and will be completed tomorrow. When that is finished, it essentially signifies having free time again! I will TRY to pull myself away from Wintersday long enough to start my project (note: trying to get life of the party this wintersday. we'll see.) for the workshop! -gets excited-
I have a 12x16" and a 16x20" canvas; which should I use for this? I'm leaning towards the 16x20" because the bigger it is the more detailed I can try and be. I've looked at some techniques online for acrylic painting I would actually really like to give a try (easy tips, yet yielding pretty awesome results) so I'm really excited for that! Going to gather some screenshots soon for reference.

@Qing I would say necromencer left, and either ritualist or ranger right? I always felt like ritualist armor without the helmet looked pretty similar to female ranger armors. Perhaps add more of that ritualist shell-metal-unnecessarymetalcircles- stuff to her outfit? Also, I like the green trim. Without it she is just red, with it she is very festively coloured
@Olrun That looks awesome! I would suggest painting it; right now it is very 2-dimensional. If you painted it, you could really enhance the details and general appearence overall
What you would paint metal with, I don't have a clue. Would regular acrylic/oil paints adhere to the metal surface?

I listed your first post as your progress gallery since I wasn't sure if you were planning on making that your progress gallery or if you were just showing your first draft Let me know if you want me to update your progress gallery link to something else or if you want me to list it as TBA

Your gallery link is just a link for where you want to show off your work in one place (although we want you posting your pics in this thread, too!) If you want to sent up an empty one for now, that works, too! I have your link as TBA at the moment

If you're planning on making that specific post your progress gallery, I just wanted to warn you and give a heads up that there is a word limit on posts that depending on how detailed you want to go in your progress gallery, you mind end up hitting it :O (It's something like 7000 words so those doing art pieces shouldn't have to worry about it, but lit writers putting several draft versions might.)
If you think the word count might be an issue, consider using wordpress.com, another blog site, or PM Sierraa since she's awesome and has offered to host galleries Let me know what you decide and I'll update your link!

Thanks for the info! Could you link the original post? The plan is to keep the story relatively short as the entries seem to be predominantly art rather than literature, so hopefully the 7000 word limit won’t be an issue. Whether or not the plan comes to fruition is another matter entirely, though.

Cheers for the feedback. It’s a little disconcerting that both those mistakes are in the first paragraph alone, but I guess that’s what first drafts are for. The double negative bit was an attempt to make the narration sound a bit old fashioned, but on revisiting it doesn’t really work. As for the chilly ‘draft’ going through an otherwise stuffy office, there’s no excuse. I’ll make sure that’s ironed out for the final entry, so thanks again for picking up on that.

TBA should be fine for now, as most of my progress is mental (I tend not to write things down until they're pretty much done in my head- makes things awkward here sorry).

Well after setting aside my regular artistic duties I've made some progress. I wasn't sure about the composition at first but now I like it.
I've also settled on the concept of Norn, Asura, and Charr santa parody.
Wow it looks like the workshop has grown greatly.

Mostly colored pencils. Some of the outlining is done in ink.

Here's an update aswell.. DX I had no idea how hard it was to try to draw the northern lights with colored pencils.. I spent hours just blending that small section in the top corner. What a pain. And yes, the sky is a mess right now, but I'm sporadic when it comes to coloring so I just kind of jump all over the place.

I really like the coloring you're using for the sky (beautiful auroras!)
The only thing that gets me, and perhaps there's a reason you did it that way, is Gwen riding sideways on the Moa. It looks a bit awkward to me, tbh. Have you thought of shifting her hips just ever so slightly and moving that left leg to the other side of the bird? Maybe it's just me, but I think it'd look cleaner that way. Other than that, my only comment is OH! Your pencil coloring skills are absolutely divine.

I was thinking that I would paint it. I'm pretty sure acrylic paint would work, but I just wasn't sure which colors I should use. I was thinking maybe I could make it like a Santa hat, painting the details white and the rest of it red. Another of my ideas was that I could cut up one my Santa hats to make a small one that I could put on it and paint it red and green or something. I'm just not sure which would look better, and I don't want to start cutting up Santa hats or painting on colors that could look bad before I get some opinions.

@Valdis: I was just wondering who Grenth was dropping the snowball on. Is it supposed to be Gwen or just some random passerby? It looks like a nice idea though.

Allright, here is a little 5 minute storyboard sketch to give myself an idea of the frames I'm going to need to make. It's going to be a combination of a non-motion film and a silent film (hence the little text in there) from the charlie chaplin age. Hope I can finish it in time!

Olrun, my suggestion be this:
Sketch the helmet a few different times on a sheet of paper (don't make it super artsy. just do the general outlines). Then with some coloured pencils, or even paint, or if you have photoshop you could do it there as well - anyway you can put colour too it. Then you can test out what schemes do and don't work, and then possibly showing us which you think turn out the best for us to help break a tie ^^
That way you don't tamper with anything before its too late to go back on an idea.
