Yeah but Pyre was also fighting on the side of our characters. It's the least that we drag him into the middle of our celebration

It's so exciting to see what you all make ^^
I'm going about the thoughts of having a cute wintery love-pic with Koss and Melonni. Though with winter-modified armours.
Another thought I have would be to make a mini-series of pics with wintersday in the different campaigns...

@Konig: Thanks! Yush, I have been working on making the "ribs" thin. The right side is now moderately detailed and fixed. And actually, the second concept art is the one I referenced from; seeing as an avatar of Grenth isn't the God himself. I went with Kekai's concept
But thanks so much!! I'll be working on fixing those things :]

Alright, so I've narrowed down what I want to do... a little bit.
I think I want to do something on a rather grandeur scale - so something focusing on a landscape. So initially I'm thinking a scene involving one of the redecorated cities. What are some other location-based wintersday activities that occur outside of the main cities, whether in the lore or a location you can visit in the game? Just want some extra ideas in my head to muddle around with.
Some ideas specifically sticking out in my head are the large wintersday tree in lions arch, and that snowball dominance quest with all of the people throwing snowballs. Not totally satisfied with either right now, but they could be workable.

But you know... The concept art is of the avatar, not the god. The truest image of the gods we have are the statues, assuming those are duplicates of the ones made by Malchor, who made statues while looking at the gods themselves.
I have no clue why people take the avatar and use them as what the gods themselves look like, when its stated in everyday that's not the case... Not to mention that they're so terribly different from the descriptions given by the scriptures... Avatar of Grenth doesn't look like an old robed man behind a mask, and the Avatar of Dwayna has no majestic wings... Just wing-designed clothing.

Ehhhh... Well, on both wikis the image for Grenth, as in the god, is the concept art. So, even if it's supposed to be the avatar, the title of the art piece itself is Grenth.
Not all that important though.
Either way, I think the avatar is more interesting to look at than just a robe and mask :3
But here's more progression, I'll be fixing up armor specifics and stauff as I go :]
As an interesting thing, just for the heck of it, I'd like all your guys' vote on what he should be crushing in his upheld hand? Something to represent spring/summer/the end of winter. Examples might include the ultimate victory of holding Dwayna's head (though that's a bit morbid), or possibly holding a bunchful of roses/flowers or something springlike that are now rotted and deadified.
You all decide ^^

@ Konig
Hence the confused look on Pyre's face as Gwen is trying to give him a gift.
Pyre's Thoughts: What's this? A gift for me? "The "Mouse" being friendly? .. What is this wintersday spirit you speak of? And WHO TIED HOLLY TO MY TAIL? Grrrrr!"
-----------------------
Started inking some bits, the smudging was getting messy. Added M.O.X

@Valdis: that concept is there cuz as you said its more interesting than looking at an old guy in a robe. Though that still isn't Grenth.
Regarding your pic, I'd say take something Spring-like and freeze it over. For the "ribs," it seems weird with them being so far spaced apart, so I'd either push them down or make more green lines, as the brown definably looks like it should be thinner.
@Draken: Pyre's face looks more sad than confused to me tbh. Mainly due the the angle of the eyes, particularly the upper line.
@DBAA: The first Wintersday affected place that comes to mind is Tombs, though tbh, it seems all of Elona and Tyria gets snow (even Vabbi is said to get snow), so anywhere there would work.

@Konig: Hmmm, this is true. Well, I relooked at the concept art and changed around the armor a bit. It lacks the glowies I'm gonna put in but I'm too tired to continue tonight.

It's nice to see that others have started on their projects so far. I've kind of begun mine, although I'm taking steps that I don't normally take, which is to draw it out first (I'm not an artist). This is hopefully so that I can put that up for critique before I begin the actual project itself. It's important that I nail a good setup and perspective since I'll need these to determine how I go about the rest. I may also write a story for an entry, although I'm not getting as many wintersday ideas as I had for the Halloween contest...
Anyhow, I'll have to figure out a different site to use as I don't really care for photobucket or worpress, but I have no talent for web design to create something custom. Any thoughts on a good blog-ish site that could be used?

@ Rends: will be intrigued to see what you are coming up with!
as for blog thingy, I'm using my own art thread here on Guru, putting all my updates in one post to link to the first page of this one here. If you leave me a comment on my art, I'll let you hijack my thread and put your post in there. You can then go back and edit that post whenever you have updates

wow so many awesome entries already! . Time to get my own ideas out there!
I have two ideas in mind, we will see which one i will finish, if i will be able to finish anything at all. Very busy atm and commissions are piling up...
So my first idea is kid Gwen and kid Jinglebear in Gwen's Garden, since this idea is very similar to Murke's entry i will maybe add in a kid Kieran Thackery. Second idea is a illustration of the awakening of a winter sylvari.
So here is my official workshop entry:
Hey, Thistle! I want to participate in the workshop!

Sura, I really like the idea of a winter sylvari! (but then, knowing Anet, you'll prolly be better off with something more cutesy and conventional for the official contest )
well, here's a little update on mine
worked some more on the sketch and detailed the wings. I thought I'd go for lots of feathers, but I fear I might have overdone it... thoughts? Also not too happy about the far-left part of the hair AND I have to figure out what to have for a "background"

I've always felt that Digital art has had an advantage on Traditional Art in the main contest, which saddens me.

That's quite nice of you to offer. I'll likely comment on your art either way now that I know it's there, although I think I need to figure out the blog thing. It's kind of been one of my goals lately to 'master' my online presence, so I'll probably try to contact Sierraa per Thistle's advice (I'll be honest: I thought 'hosting' meant that you had to have an existing blog/site. See how little I know?)

I think you did a good job with the feathers, and the left side of the hair looks fine to me. I think I get why you might be unhappy with it; maybe you could lengthen one of the sides a bit, or add a little extra wave/curl?

Anyhow, I might as well commit to one of my entries.
