Hey guys, sorry about my week-long hiatus... I was deep in the throes a of HP fanarting spasm.

But I am back! With art!

Hailfall, here is your second commish:

Her right eye is wonky, and her left is kind of flat (lost the shading in the scar - colors were NOT behaving), and I ended up more with flat-out "evil" rather than the "psychotic" I was going for, but for my first attempt with the round brush I guess it came out all right.

Also, since I kept you waiting the longest, I elaborated on a little prelim sketch and turned it into a full-blown doodle. I was considering doing a down angle on the head but decided that I wasn't good enough with the perspective. So yeah, it's wonky lookin but it was fun to draw.

EDIT: Yeah the images are huge right now, I forgot to crop them. I've got the cropped versions on Photobucket now, so the image here should be updating in a while.

I'd stay with hard rounds on ~60% flow and higher opacity. Soft rounds have their uses but oftentimes just has a disgusting mushiness and mottled unevenness when used casually. Lowering flow on hard brushes makes them blend better in the direction you want them to blend in.

I'm using Painter... how do I do that? I know how to change opacity but not flow.

Gack nevermind then. Just serves as reminder for me to install Painter.

Finished Diana's commission. Will add comments later, have to run and catch the bus to work now.

EDIT: Okay. Well anyway, the collar didn't give me too much trouble - if you look at it, the lace is just overlapping arches - but the hair color simply would not work out! I hope it is okay... I had to use my usual broad brush instead of the new simple water I like to use for hair. I think it came out a little too red but there was no happy medium between reddish brown and purplish gray. (Although on this monitor it actually looks red in the reference shot... huh. Wonder whether this one is the screwy one or mine is.) I love how from the front her haircut looks exactly the same as Reyla's.

I'm sorry the eyes are kind of anime - I was trying my best to avoid that but it happened anyway. I was having some trouble getting them to look in the same direction, and I still think her right eye needs to look more to her left. Also, the nose is out of alignment with the mouth. If you want, I think I may be able to fix that, as I believe the original RIF is still in its layers and I can just move the nose lines a bit to the right and tweak the shading - I'd have to check, though. If that's true, I can fix the eye as well. And the messy bits of color I left lying around that I couldn't see on my monitor. And the fact that I totally forgot what you said about the armor and only drew the neck.

I'm fairly happy with the expression, though. And that I finally got the jaw to work (it took me like half an hour to get that to someplace where I was comfortable with it).

ANOTHER EDIT: I am leaving for NorCal on Friday after work (and this evening and tomorrow morning I will be getting ready to move out of the apartment I've been in) and will be away until Sunday afternoon. Hopefully my dad will have my computer set up back at home before we go, so I can get on once we're back. So basically, no more new art until after this weekend. Again. I'll get back to work on Monday, though!

I like it. I think it looks good. ^_^ We need to schedule a time to meet so I can pay you. I'm generally online between 1pm - 2am. EST. Ign Marisa Windheart. I may not be online a lot this week since I have to take care of a lot of personal stuff. If you want to setup a time when we can meet, let me know. Sunday (Tomorrow would probably be best for me.)

Wat Buddhawat
I was thinking I'd ask for full body and full color and cartoonish

Any weapons you want:
I wasn't particularly attached to any particular weapons, but I did always like her old school healing staff and the droknar's/brohn's staff skin. Either would be fine.

Any deviations from your character's ingame appearance that you want me to include: She doesn't have to be wearing the sunglasses if you don't want to put them in.

A brief personality description and a short bio: Wat's just an all around monk, good at what she does but sometimes she gets tired of all the noobs she has to heal all day.

Okay guys, just wanted to make some announcements.

First off, I believe Jiyu and Jenna want to show their thanks for your help in getting new armor:

Okay, now down to more serious stuff.

This weekend and next week, I'll be working on finishing what commissions I have. However, after that I have to go back to school.

I'll be keeping the commission thread open, but understand that if you commission me then I may not be able to get to your picture for some time, possibly a month or more. I don't think my teachers this year are quite as work-crazy as last year's (I've had most of these before), but 4 AP classes will take up a significant chunk of my time and I do want to spend some of my free time playing. I may also end up doing your pictures over time instead of my usual single 4- or 5-hour sitting. In that case, I will post progress images on the thread. Still, I can't make any guarantees of how soon they will be finished if you do choose to get a work done.

If you are interested, I'm willing to do some sketchy fullbody renderings of your planned Guild Wars 2 characters so long as a) you provide adequate character description in terms of what you want them to look like, what their personality is, etc b) I have the time and c) they aren't a Charr (sorry, I'm just not that good at drawing non-humanoids). I would extrapolate a costume for the character from what pictorial evidence of a traditional costume we have for that character's race and whatever you request. The price for this would probably be about the same as for a monochrome fullbody and, given how long it took me to do my Lejja Tam pic, will take around 3 hours. This would of course be subject to the limitations of my free time and however many other commissions I have.

Finally finished Crucist Ovv's commish!

This picture put up a fight. I tried turning her face upwards like you requested, but it didn't look at all like her, so I settled for having her head facing forward (actually it looks like she's sticking out her chin, which is bad; I intended to have her bowing her head a little) and her eyes looking up. As it was, it took me several hours to get the face even remotely resembling the real Lucy, and I still don't think it's a particularly accurate likeness... sorry about that. It's better than it was before, though. There was an hour or so when it looked more like my own monk, or possibly my paragon. I spent forever fiddling with the mouth and nose shape and moving the eyes around, trying to get it right. I enlarged the eyes a little, made them a little wider, since you asked to make her look younger and sweeter. And I couldn't tell if they were supposed to be grey or brown, so I settled on a greyish brown.
The hands were a pain as well, but I think I handled them... well, better than I have in the past anyway. Now you can all see the ultimate failure that occurs when Ruth draws hands, lol.
I completely forgot how I did the paint work on Hailfall's second piece, too, so the round brush was arguing with me. I think it's because I used white more on that one, while this one was going for more of a natural skintone. I probably should have introduced a different, darker color for the shading instead of trying to strengthen what was already there. Her hair turned out a bit yellower than I wanted as well, but that's not so bad. And I'm quite happy with how the fabric turned out - it was looking too solid, but I noticed the creases in the brown part and incorporated those, and I think it looks much better now.
I believe it's cleaner than the others, too, since this is the first thing I've completed with my contrast settings back to normal. I also used a red overlay layer to help me find and eliminate stray color patches, so hopefully it's a little better than the ones I did before in that respect.

Finished another one! Still on track... just one more to do. Here's Spoon Legs:

She was so fun to draw! 'Twas funny... I got her face perfectly, then realized it was at the wrong angle and I had to redraw it. Then I had it on paper, but it took 2 or 3 tries to recopy it onto the computer. And I eventually settled for a slightly different angle than the reference (and, unusally, I just copied the reference pose instead of making up my own - but it was so cute!). The hands were difficult as well, but I think they turned out all right.
I ended up using 3 different brushes for this - my old reliable broad water for the skin and colors on the armor, the round water for the black (because the broad can't handle deep colors), and the new simple water for the hair and the swirlies. I was having trouble shading the pants until I remembered that when I was wearing that set the fabric was kind of stiff, with some creases... somehow doing stripes of white (is there a term for that, when you do hatchwork but it's parallel to the contours?) seemed to add the right texture. I probably could have done better on the collar - right now it seems to be falling into shadow and making the chest look weirdly concave.
But overall it was good. Though I'm Kurzick through and through, I have to say that Luxon armor is much more fun to draw (nice combo, btw) - I loved making the painted swirls! And this was good practice with an non-straight-backed pose. Also, I tend to subconsciously make the face I am drawing as I draw it, so I was pretty cheerful the whole evening

Oh, and I just noticed something I missed (lighter blue on her left foot is missing), so I'll fix that and the collar now; the link should switch to the fixed version sometime in the night. Carbajac, I'll try to get yours done tomorrow.
If you three monks could have your payments to me by the end of the week that'd be great, as I don't know when I'll be available after that. Thought I was going to be free on Monday as it's a minimum day, but I have an orthodontist appointment...

Yay! Glad you like it. I'll be free... pretty much any time tomorrow (like 7 AM to 5 PM PDT, I guess), so just PM me when you're available and I'll get on if I'm not on already.

Sooo... I'm sorry to be making excuses, and I feel really bad, but I don't think I'll have your pic up tonight, carbajac. I was totally off schedule (took an hour or so to farm Norn points that I later found out I didn't need), and I forgot that Kasen Sorel's RP thing was today so I took time off for that, and I had to work on my app essay... and so I'm only just now getting to starting on the picture. I'll try to get it done by the end of the weekend. Obviously I don't expect you to pay before it's done, so yeah. But anyway I will finish it as soon as I can!

In other news, Jenna's happy with her latest armor set (couldn't decide on a dye color - originally had purple-orange-silver, a nice rose color, but in the sunlight that looked yucky so I settled on purple-purple-orange-silver instead):

Wow, that's grainy. Dunno how that happened. Ah well.

EDIT NUMBAH ONE (more to come!): Quitting for the evening. Have completed base pink sketch (yes, I color-code my sketch layers), blue face and armor sketch, and am in process of inking in final lineart (haha at using trad-art terms for digital stuff; it is all the 2b pencil brush - anyway, am done inking face). I must say, your monk posed quite a challenge for me - not in features, but rather in not turning her into Healbot or Lili Frog (both of whose comics I adore). I was considering making her be exasperated with something offscreen (a wammo, probably), but realized that a) that's been done by both monks I've named (heck, it was Healbot's trademark) and b) looking tired and frustrated is almost never flattering. So instead she's doing what she does best - heal. I actually went in-game on my own monk to get some reference shots, and I've settled on a nice dynamic pose - the one in the middle of a long cast, where she pulls up her left leg, curves to her right, and raises her staff above her head (right before she extends the staff toward the target - the pose makes for a lovely crescent shape on the paper). Guild Wars and I both fail at depicting raised shoulders, so I'm glad for that large pauldron that obscures my lack of knowledge of the workings of shoulders. Anyway, I've made good progress in the past hour or so of work, and since I've got the face just how I want it (usually a sticking point for me) and the coloring will be simple (cartoons take so much less time to color!), it should be done fairly quickly. The question will be when I have time - archery tomorrow morning, a baby shower to go to in the afternoon, church on Sunday, and an 250-word app essay to write. But I think I can find time - perhaps after the shower tomorrow, or on Sunday afternoon. I'd estimate there's an hour-hour and a half of work left. So yeah. But I'm quite happy with it so far, so I think it'll turn out great. (Wow, that turned out to be a really long status update, ha.)

That's cool, it sounds like you're doing some neat stuff with her. And there's no need to rush, do what you gotta do, you're goodies I have saved for you aren't going anywhere.
