I know exactly the episode thats from, and I have to say that is quite hilarious. I feel like this is what should pop-up instead, or alongside it in the episode. Very awesome job!

Not just on Guru but also in-game as well. Also, lol at Squidward being a bit too grotesque. It actually felt like I was making one of those dynamic and hideous close-ups that Ren & Stimpy/Spongebob would use during the show. What can I say, I'm just a child of that generation.
@Marsh: He's looking into your soul.
@Death: I stopped watching the show after the fourth season when the original creator left. The episodes just weren't nearly as good and felt a bit too fast-paced. But they throw you a gem every so often, and the Handsome Squidward bit is one of them.

I have to agree, many of the new episodes don't have the same feel that the old ones did. One of the particularly good new ones, I found atleast, was Squidward in Clarinetland (had to look it up). Its essentially a take on Alice and Wonderland but it feels very much like Adventure Time (another pretty good show). Another good one was Frozen Face Off (mixed some good claymation into the show, was actually kinda cool).
But, you're right. These are more so diamonds in the rough.

Well I haven't gotten to the final layout, so I don't really have much to compile at the moment. But whatever, I'll still go ahead and post part of my thinking process. Here are some character studies and silhouettes for Dixun.
Quick studies intended to help me get a stronger understanding of the character's facial structure and personality. Again, these are roughs so I won't be using this view of the face in the final piece - it just helps me familiarize myself with the character more.
As for the silhouettes, I already posted a number of quick roughs of his stance on the previous page. But here you can see me actually blocking the figure in order to determine how he'll be portrayed, and what that stance says about him.
In context of this picture, Dixun is meant to be portrayed as a powerful fire construct. Even as the two Giants in the background are lunging at him, Dixun seems rather relaxed yet still confident and in control. He thinks of the Giants as more of a minor nuisance than a legitimate threat. The figure on the right better portrays that mixture of ease and confidence, while the figure on the left comes off as more royal and overly cocky - puffed up chest, straight posture, etc. While Dixun is supposed to be a bit of a cocky character, that posture is a bit too in your face and out of character.

@Morag: Trying to really go crazy with this one and include a lot of what I've learned this past semester as well. It'd be nice if I could get into Expose with this, but as long as I get a strong portfolio piece, I'll be happy.
We'll see which set of horns I go with - I can't decide, hnghhhhhh. I like the Obsidian horns, but I felt like it was a bit of repeat of Shala.
@Hail: Thanks Hail

So good charlie D:
For the pose; I couldn't tell if you were looking for suggestions as you sounded like you were debating between the two. Since I don't know what the golems you have in mind look like, would a pose akin to this work as well?
Your description reminds me of a much more toned down (read: not insane) Azula from Avatar. I always get the cocky-but-aloof feel from her, and it sounds like what you're trying to go for.
Looking good either way, can't wait to start seeing the scene come togethor

yeah that came to my mind as well... I do feel that the smooth ones are a bit too smooth though, perhaps add some different structure or a sharp edge or something?

Got carried away with some practice. Didn't realize how damn big the painting was, lol.
@Death: That's a good pose and it would certainly fit Dixun I'd say. Unfortunately, it wouldn't work with the animation I have planned - I need one hand holding the staff upright before it slams into the ground.
@Morag: I was playing around with some textures, but they felt like it made him feel a bit too bestial or demonic. Since he's a construct, I like the idea that he was crafted and put together carefully. The smooth "perfect" texture, to me, seems to denote that idea he was manufactured somewhere. He's already looking a bit like a demon of some sort, so the more I can draw back that feeling, the better.
It also makes me laugh a bit to think he polishes and maintains his horns so they stay smooth because of the constant magma flowing out of his head.

Quick doodle of a warrior monk. Character study for another big piece I'm thinking of doing in the near future. Trying to draw more on a daily basis - also moving away from just working in grayscale and painting with a palette in mind since it's faster. Inspired by model designs from Shogun 2.

Some character doodles for a big samurai piece I might do in the future.
This new Intuos tablet is amazing and sure feels way more natural to work with in comparison to my weenie Bamboo tablet.

Hey there, Drel. Long time no see, glad you like it.
Here's the finished piece. I'll add Dixun to the front page character roster later. Just glad I got this thing over with, finally.

Wow, I don't even know what to say...I feel like...
*puts pen tablet back into box to gather dust, never to draw again...*
I really like the detail put into everything, especially the rocks. It's just enough detail, not too much to overshadow the entire piece. And that staff is beautiful, I hope GW2 has something similar.

My computer had died.
It's interesting to see this from start to finish and look at the changes - like his staff and the head of the giant. Amazing and beautiful level of detail, as always!
