Just make the textures on a new file, then copypasta like crazy. It's like making a collage - saves a LARGE amount of time.
|
So almost like photomanipulating
That looks seriously awesome, though. I'm loving the background.

you've certainly taken a leaf out of the concept artist's books, and it's working really well! I'm half expecting some fire and smoke now!

@Del: Whimsical!
@Drel: Thanks, Drel. The background was slightly inspired by a scene in LOTR. There's a giant valley they're passing through with colossal statues of their kings carved into the sides of the mountain face. Pretty awesome scenery.
@Nian: Thanks
@Hail: Welcome back, lol. There are going to be a few minions in there, some dead flora in the foreground, and a little more added to the background. Not to mention the effects in between to make it a handsome animation.
@V: Yeah, I guess it is kind of like photomanipulation. Gives you a good reason to draw out a lot of textures, buildings, etc to re-use in areas. I'm surprised how much fun I'm having with the collage aspect of it, considering how much I hate using scissors and glue. I think it's just the mess factor of it.
@Morag: Definitely, that kit turned on a huge lightbulb in my head in terms of how to work. I already knew that Daniel Dociu was the master of matte painting. But I didn't know that the other artists used it in large portions of their work as well. I was always under the impression that it all came from custom brushes.

And yeah I should've read you said Acrylic , it's just my mind has been all over the place lately >_<"
Oh when are you going to make tutorial on textures or just tips overall? I am so bad at this. I have been trying and been failing miserably QQ

I think I just said traditional, so I can see why some people didn't know that it was a paint medium. As for a tutorial(s) - mmmmmmmmmmm, perhaps.
Another one.

I think the colors in the background are very GuildWars 2ish, really remind me of some of the Norn concept arts. Texture looks good indeed. Though I must say Shala doesn't fit in. It might be because you drew her first and then added the background to it. But she just isn't part of the whole scene yet, she looks like she's pasted in. Perhaps I'm running ahead of you and were already planning on changing it a bit, but just my 2 cents

I have to agree with Tommy. You achieved it better with version nr.2 but she doesn't look to fit in so well.

It's mostly just that she looks like she's hovering, instead of actually grounded, and the lighting confuses me. I can't tell where it's supposed to be coming from Shala also looks kind of washed out and low-contrast in comparison to the background.
All fairly easy things to fix, though. Gradient maps are amazing for helping make images fit together so that they look like one cohesive picture.

Ah, more LotR inspiration - and more reason for me to finally get around to watching these movies! That sounds pretty epic.
LOVING the colors here, by the way~

@Toms: It's mostly that she was more of a placeholder for me to judge the rest of the picture on. She was just sort of there to "help fill in the blank" for the animation in a way. Though getting her to fit in relation to the picture comes more at the end with final lighting. Not to mention simplifying a few of her textures since she was shrunken down from a massive size.
IH: What's nr.2?
@V: I was dumb and uploaded the wrong version. I only just now noticed that I posted the version with no sky, lol. It's in the newer version now.
@Drel: You'd better get to it on watching those movies. Don't make me come over there.
Changed the background colors to make it look a little more "dead" and less super heated. Still playing around with the colors I want on the green smoke. Still leaning more towards something a little more red to match the atmosphere and Blood Magic.
Taking a little longer than usual to finish this because of the animation. Seems like the still image version and the animation will be really different in terms of zombie numbers.

That looks a lot better. I see I jumped on the critiqueboat a bit too soon Those hands coming from the ground is really great, I can't wait to see the animation. Are you going to animate just the green lights or are you really going to make them move? I really would like to see them popping out of the ground Once I get a bit better at painting you'll definitely have to teach me this! I'm so in love with those GuildWars2 cinematics, so I'm really exited on how this will turn out!

Okay, yeah, that one looks a lot better. I still think Shala looks a bit too desaturated and lacking in contrast compared to the rest of the image, especially with how vivid the sky is.
Epic minion, btw. They should look like that in-game.

The one you last posted before I posted. But I didn't know it was just a placeholder for now. The background looks really good.

I'll try to get hold of them, but we don't have a video rental place here and my brother doesn't have them after all. D:
I'll have to ask Gattsu's cousin.
If minions looked like that in-game, I'd probably run a minion master build a lot more often~ 'Til then, Spiteful Spirit still has my vote.
That. Is. Epic. I really like the green glow.

As much as I liked the newer Lord of the Rings films they're freaking long lol. I see that not too long ago they released an extended version boxset out on blue-ray. Each movie was like 3 hours to begin with. What's the extended version? 4 hours?
Aragorn was one of my favorite characters though. Cool, collected, and great costume design.
Love the picture. Looks like she's casting Aura of the Lich.

Summer school starts tomorrow. I'll be working on the animation and SFX whenever I get the chance in between classes.
