I want to find people who roleplay and play the game also. I love roleplaying, but I love GW too. So if I am bored with endless killing and discoveries, I can roleplay.

There's a thread where we've been discussing problems and solutions to allow RPers to meet.
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=7528
Creating a Guild is a good idea, the only problem is: we can't belong to more than 1 guild.

I'd be interested in finding out what exactly is happening concerning the RP aspects of the game, and I created a guild to try to promote these. My (primary) Character name is also Anathar Caerun (Sec. is Lerith Ether) so if any changes concerning the RP happens, or if you want more info about the guild happen, give me a PM! :P

In all honesty, I've just about given up on the role-playing aspects of this game. I felt tempted to start an open RP thread in the role-playing forums, but seeing as the activity on that particular board is...well... virtually non-existant, I decided against it.
The same goes for the actual game. I have yet to meet anyone that roleplays, and I've already stopped playing for a good week now. Unless we manage to bring something together, I'm going to move on. This game just doesn't hold enough for me to stick around without some form of RP.

It is a guild tempting to put role play back into this role playing game.
You can PM me for more info or make an application on the homepage!

Although I don't RP myself, I have a friend who's a rabid RP fan. If any of you are intrested, I would gladly make that RP section to our forums (for our guild - although no strings attachted or anything of that sort, I aim to have a small community forum someday ) for you guys to recap your adventures. Minu's main character name is Nerwen Elansar, and I'm sure he'd love to find that dedicated, creative, and interesting RP group! If you guys would like some quiet forum space, I'd love to host you - as it's always a great read! Please contact me if interested, in-game on Korlic Stormspire, email on [email protected], or here as Ascension.
I can guarentee Mimu would be jumping for joy at the prospect of an in-house RP group. I'm surprised he hasn't found this thread already ...
On a general RP note, the people are out there .. they just need to be found and unified. I support RP, as it adds much-needed depth to any game. If I see anyone intrested in this, who should I tell them to specifially contact?
Thanks
-Korlic Stormspire

Someone tried RPing with me today, I completely missed it buried under all the spam scrolling by.
Other games give you a way to open a second chat window where you can filter out all but the elements you want (like /say /emote and /tells) to keep them from getting lost among the /shout and melee spam. Also, when you get tells in other games, there's a little "ping" sound so you are alerted. I don't know how many times I've missed whispers from my own husband as they scrolled quickly into oblivion under the chat of an entire zone in an city's instance. Friends that have followed me from other games to this one think I'm ignoring them because I don't answer their tells (whispers) when they get a character rolled in game. Fact is that I never saw the tell because it scrolled by under all the other fluff.
With this game, it's one box only, say and shout are one and the same across the instance, and though you can uncheck a box to filter things out, you can't separate boxes to filter non rp into one box and rp stuff into another.
I really am enjoying this game, and I've been an RPer since 1st edition AD&D, but the chat system really isn't conducive to allowing for an RP atmosphere.

The chat system isn't condusive to anything. It's horribly constructed, and I personally can't believe that they released the game with such a bad chat interface.
But anyway, if anyone here is ever in the mood for some roleplaying and wouldn't mind partnering at some point, send me a PM. I'm getting tired of logging onto GW with nothing to look forward to except naked dancing toons strewn about the cities.

I understand you, Strife. It irritates me too, I just got used to it cos I got disappointed once with another MMORPG (though letters R and P should be removed).
The difference is: GW is free from monthly fee and we can take our time looking for people with the same playing style. RPers exist but they are hard to find and the chat window is going against us.
I hope all this will be fixed.

Indeed, it's FINDING other RP'ers that's putting me off. I haven't seen a single bout of RP going on yet. If someone opened up an open RP thing in the RP forum I'd be jumping right in but I haven't seen anything like that there yet...unless I'm just being dense...

If interested in Role Playing... send me a PM with your in-game name. I started a Guild last night (around midnight) and we have 3 members as it is. We are strictly role players in global chat, and have an interesting background (crafted by me).

I also have a guild that is strictly RP. What this means is that at least 1 of your characters must be an RP character. You must create a story and a background for your character, you must act mature, you must have a name that can fit into an RP environment which should be self-explanatory. We are listed on the GW Guru Databse. I have a very, very simplistic website located at:
Guild Wars Site---Death is Temporary
And a forums that covers all of the basics of the game with a section devoted to roleplay and section devoted specifically to the guild:
The Forums
Message me in game also-
Name- Andarius Diesethion
We have only 3 members now but I feel that Quality is always better than Quantity.
***edit-I forgot to mention that we do have capes. I have a screenshot that I need to upload to an image hosting service. After I get it I'll post it here but here is a description.
Sky blue background, Crimson red Sword/roses design and a group of yellow sun rays at the bottom.

Roleplaying is a kind of art where you collaberatively create stories based around the gaming environment, your own character, and your character's interactions with other characters who are also roleplaying. These stories are created within the game itself, although sometimes people expand these stories to web boards or the like, to help add body.
I tend to think of it as sort of like playing Dungeons & Dragons through a gaming interface.
Roleplayed characters generally have a carefully thought-out background story that drives the character's motivations and choices. Gameplay is dominated with chat, but does not exclude fighting monsters if it fits in with the roleplayed goals of the story.
In a Guild Wars environment, I expect roleplaying probably would involve using the storyline and integrating your own backstory into it. Unlike a pen-and-paper roleplaying environment, though, you will find that your character cannot really turn into a traitor against the storyline (for example), but I'm sure people work around such limitations in some fashion (probably by simply embracing the limitation).
It's relatively easy to roleplay, although you have to be prepared to endure roleplayed negative reactions to your roleplayed choices, and recognize them as part of the roleplay, and not a shot against you, personally (a subtlety of roleplay that confuses some people). Whispers between players can help dispell possible confusion by clarifying that the text is roleplay, not reality.
I hope that helps a little. I wish I could write out an example roleplay session, but I'm lacking a little in imagination at the moment, as I really need to focus on my job.

I beg to differ that GW doesn't have roleplaying already: I don't know how you play the game, but the game has a story- you are a character in that story- I call that roleplaying. Of course, you are roleplaying within a defined story, and choices are limited- but choices do exist and roleplaying does exist- it's up to you how much you want to become immersed into it. As for making up backstories, that can easily be done as well- sharing them with guild members might be fun- but beyond that how do you expect that making up stories that are not already part of the GW's world will make the game better or more fun. I enjoy the heck out of it as it is- and I am a huge old timer (over 40) roleplaying fan who has played role playing games for decades, and I certainly am always looking for ways to make the gaming experience deeper, but what has been suggested in the previous threads doesn't seem to do that imo. I would love to be proved wrong, so if someone could suggest a practical model for roleplaying beyond the roleplaying one already does in GW, that would enhance game play, I am all ears.
