Intro to Gaming
I'm just curious really, to find out what was the FIRST game you ever played on the PC? And I guess since most people may have started on a console before the PC, what console and what game was your first? I'm probably dating myself here, but here's my two:
PC: "Castle of Kroz" (and shame on you if you don't know what this is...)
Console: Texas Instruments Keyboard (for lack of a better name for the thing, it was basically a keyboard that you plugged into your TV with a slot for your game cartridges)--first game was of course "TI Invaders"
Ciao,
CT

On a PC it was probably Solitare, but for games I had to install I think it would be Wayne Gretzky Hockey 3D.
Way back in my elementary school days my school had a few Macintosh and Lazer computers. The first game I played on that was probably Number Crunchers. I think this was before the hockey game, but I'm not sure.
On console it would be the old Mario Bros on Atari 2600 ( I think, not sure which model actually).

PC, it was either Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego or Oregon Trail at school, before PCs were common in homes.
Console, definitly Tank Battle (I think that's what it's called) on the Atari 2600.
Arcade, Joust. Everybody forgets arcade games these days. It really is a shame. One arcade here in town has gone out of business, and the other one isn't exactly thriving. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of hanging out with friends at the local arcade. I hate to see them fall by the wayside.

Good point Fu,
I actually was thinking about including the arcade action in here, but didn't because I never really had any arcade experience. Weren't any close, and I didn't have the quarters to spend anyway. Arcades seem to be a niche market (if you will) whereas PCs and Consoles seem to have pervaded many households. Of course, this could be totally different depending on where you live...
Anyhoo, I think the first arcade game I played was maybe "Spyhunter."
Ciao,

I had a console long befor I ever got a computer. My first was the NES that I bought with my flier route money, then it includes Super Mario Bros., then I got the computer when I was in Jr. High, the first game I remember buying would have been Wing Comander, but mind you that was a while ago

Actually now that I think of it my first was on a TI-99 4a, I don't know if wou'd call it a computer or a console. My favorite game then was Munch Man - basically a version of Pac-Man but you haad to fill the screen rather than eat everything on it.

First game ever (pc) would probably be "sticky bears". (a learning game) One that I actually installed would be Sim City. I might have played Wolfenstein 3D before that at a friends house though, memory fails.
For console it would be the original Mario Bros or maybe Duck Hunt.
Arcade: I would have to go with the "bash the creatures head in with a mallet as they pop up" game. That was a fun game.

PC: sadly enough, Settlers of Catan. first game i actually installed for the PC was probably DII. this was while i was recouping from my PSO addiction ;P

I've got a bad memory even under good circumstances, so trying to remember my first.. it's a bit sketchy. It was either on the Atari 2600 or Colecovision, i'm tempted to say Moon Patrol, but it might have been Burger Time.

On an ancient Atari, when I was but a wee lad... Olympic Winter Games, with the incredible spaz cross-country skier.
In DOS, probably Oregon Trail and Operation Neptune. In Windows, probably Where In the World is Carmen Sandiego. As the first game I played that probably got me interested in less educational pursuits... probably Dark Forces.

Same for me, expect a slight difference since I had Super Mario Brothers, never had the original Mario Brothers. Got an NES not too long after it came out and Super Mario Bros was the first game I had for it. Still have that system and 20 games to go with it
No clue about what the first arcade game I played was...I didn't really go to the arcades much, and the oldest one I can think of is probably Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I remember playing Mortal Kombat one time when it was new too...I hated it

The first PC game I ever played was a little game called Zork. I remember playing various games on my old Atari system, but the names have long been gone from my memory. The first console game that really got me interested in gaming was Contra, and the first title to get me interested into PC gaming was Warcraft 2.

Can't remember what was the first game on Sinclair ZX Spectrum (Z80A processor 3.5 Mhz, 48 Kb RAM, 16 Kb ROM), but i liked to play Elite
On a x086 it was Civilization and Prince of Persia i think. I liked to play Star Control 2, Dune 2 was good too.

Hmmmmmmm...
I think for PC it was either SimCity or Star Wars: X-Wing (which, but the way, was an amazing game for its time).
On consule, this probably isn't right, but I'm thinking it was Super Mario Brothers 3, a game which would change my life forever. Others may not think so, but even today, I still hold that as the best game ever made across all consules. I still own an NES, and have two copies of the game.
