Oh the one other thing. When I played Everquest, back when it first came out, I decided to play a female human monk. I'd get stuff from other players out of nowhere. It was pretty funny.

My first reaction to this was anger, for I am male playing as a male. I feel that its the persons own desion how and why the make there char, and I said before i will not judge them for that. Yet now I am being judged for not make my avie a female. Dont make such a broad generalization.
The OP never called anyone "gay" that is something you got from a different poster, so next time quote the right source.

I guess some people are too afraid or too unwilling to let go their own selves to play something they'd consider unconventional. You'd have to be really insecure to think total strangers are going to care about your preferences, gaming or otherwise. Your friends know you for you, that's all that matters.

Well Mr. Man maybe you should read the OP's post again. Besides I also play as a male, it was a joke get over it. Toughen up and stop taking everything as a personal attack on your sexual preferences. I couldn't care less who or what you sleep with Skippy.

Heh, read it and still couldnt find the word "gay". I also said my first reaction was anger. I had just defended thier right to make what they want, and felt that it was an atack on me do to the fact that I said that I played as a male char.
My point is still valid joking or not dont make such generalizations.

Raite o.O Well in GW my Warrior is MALE and my Necro is FEMALE... and I don't play as the female because she is "hawt", or I like to stare at her pixalated butt, or undress her and dance around nekked, or hit on guys pretending to be a chick, or any other jabber you could humanly think of. She actually is my best representation of Riuka a Death God from the anime bleach lolz I actually wondered about that myself.... does playing as chick.... well? lolz, but then again, people had no problem in Diablo playing as chick, but suddenly when you have a choice it becomes an issue IMHO slong as you don't go around pretending to be a girl, or actually playing as a lady to look at bouncy pixel butt.... I suppose nuttin wrong

I pick guys for roles that I find it appropriate for. My necro is a man, my ranger as well, same with warrior... the elemenatlist males and the male mesmers honestly make me laugh upon first sight of them, so female it is. Id rather have ppl think I am out to look at some pixely butt than burst out laughing every time I see my charecter's armor. (Female mesmers look kinda dumb too lol.)

Well personally my main character is always a male, but I do play female characters from time to time, such as my necro/monk. I do this because:
A. I like to roleplay. My main character is male, and is generally quite a bit like me, but it's no fun to make every character exactly the same.
and B. I don't like how the male necromancer looks. Sorry, but the punk look just doesn't do it for me, at all. Although the female necromancers looks somewhat punk-ish still it's posible to make it less apparent, which is nice. (I've made females for this reason in a few games, for example I didn't like the male irekei in shadowbane so I played a female...)
Does this make me a pervert or a homosexual? I personally don't think so, and although everyone inside the game may think otherwise it is still just a game and has very little if any impact on my "real life," so it really doesn't matter which gender I choose :P

Hell I even look like my main character, but I have a munchkin R/El that just mows through anything. So fun to see the little ranger girl cast Fire Storm on you. I did it just for the subversion (not perversion) factor.

The male elementalist's dance is the reason I chose him over the female. The female Elementalist dances like a drunk freshman girl at a frat party. She dresses like she's been there a few hours, too.
Plus, you have got to love the Chicken.
Chicken > Drunken Females
Just some GENERALIZATIONS to ponder:
Only Fundamentalists/Evangelicals have objections against a free opportunity to stare at the rear end of a shapely woman for a couple hours.
If given the choice, most guys would rather watch a girl run than a guy [one word: bounce].
If given the choice, most girls would rather watch a guy run than a girl [they look for bounce, too]. That, or a girl they know will do poorly.
Just because a guy chooses a male avatar doesn't mean he's gay. He's either insecure, liberal, or upset with the fact the female Elementalist wears just enough to cover her panties.
Just because a girl chooses a female avatar doesn't mean she's lesbian [then again, one can hope]. She's probably a feminist.
If you gave a guy a Barbie and some time alone, he will fondle her boobs and/or put her into a sexual position at least once.
If you gave a girl a GI Joe and some time alone, she'd probably check out his pecs/abs [they have nice ones] and maybe even change his clothes.

*Sigh*, Im done with this thread, too many people trying to be funny and cute.
I will say this, make a char that YOU like dont try and make other people happy. If you are male or female it matters not, just enjoy the game.

Males taking female characters have always been a part of roleplaying games. When I used to play pen + paper AD&D there were always advantages and disadvantages to being a female. For one, you gained bonuses to your influence with male characters if you had a high charisma. A human female thief, for instance, could seduce a human male, then slit his throat while he slept. If I remember correctly, you also gained dexterity bonuses, but took penalties to strength.
Although these don't apply in Guild Wars, female characters are an important part of any fantasy setting (imagine any fantasy movie/book you've read and they all have significant and powerfull female characters).
A male playing as female is not necessarily a sign of repressed homsexuality but, more likely, an indication that the person playing has enough experience with role-playing games, and the fantasy genre in general, that they're not insecure about choosing that pathway.
The insecure one's are the male players that feel more comfortable with the idea of men being men and woman being woman. Kind of like a homophobe at a drag queen show.

To piss off people like you that think that playing a character of different sex correlates to:
1. GW has a ton of virtual pervs
2. GW has a ton of closet dwellers
3. Kurt Cobain was right......everyone is gay
Don't forget, this is an *RP*G.
I get enough of my penis when I participate in real life, I don't need videogames to be an extension of it.
