AudioScrobbler
I stumbled over this site: AudioScrobbler just recently and got hooked immediately. So what is it? I'll tell you:
The idea
The whole concept on which AudioScrobbler exists, is about finding your musical partners. Haven't you ever wondered who out there listens to the same music as you? Well now you can. AudioScrobbler automatically updates the music you listen to to their database. At least each Sunday they update your chart with the music you've been listening to through the week. With a series of calculations, the server comes up with your musical neighbours. If you don't know, a musical neighbour is a person that listen to some of the same music as you.
The method
What you need to do, is download a plugin for your music player. At the moment, plugins can be downloaded for the following media players:
* Winamp
* Windows Media Player 9
* iTunes (Windows)
* iTunes (Mac)
* foobar2000
* XMMS/Beep Media Player
* AmaroK
* QCD
* Rhythmbox
* J. River Media Center
* SlimScrobbler
* AmiScrobbler (MorphOS)
* Noatun
After downloading the plugin for your music player, simply install it. Create an account and confirm it. Enter your account information in the plugin within the music player and you're set! Simply listen to some music - the plugin sends the info to the AudioScrobbler server automatically. No confirmation needed before it uploads a track name.
The community
But AudioScrobbler is more than just an online musical mix'n'match. There's a whole community behind it. Ask your best real life friend to join and team up, make a group - do anything. If you form a group, people can ask you to let them join. In that connection, I have started a Guild Wars group so that people from the whole GW community may come together and discuss music with each others.
