Although I don't support such techniques, one way to ensure that the world doesn't become completely PC on everything is to go overboard. Simply pick a few names you know are really not offensive (something like a disease name, like cancer), come up with good arguments for something feasible (like my parents died from cancer).
Then send it away, get many people to do the same for frivolous names and either you will make a lot of people unhappy which will result in more people being angry over this name change thing causing pressure OR they will have to rethink the banning idea for names some people find offensive which shouldn't be considered such.
In reference to Kik2's name I don't find it offensive and certainly feel sorry for those who do.

I dont find it offencive ether, I do have enough forthought to see that others might. Wich is why I wouldnt want it as my name. (I cant see why anyone *would* want that as their name) I am generaly a nice guy, that dosent like to put undue stress on people.

Get real. If it surprises you that the first thing people think of is offensive on a term where the first 100 hits on Google are all porn, every last one of them, you need to get your head examined. Being that far out of touch with reality is dangerous.
(EDIT: You may need to have Google's "Safe Search" turned off for the above link to be meaningful.)
By the way, if you add "bakeries" to that search to try and find instances of the usage the original author claimed, there aren't any. No one on the Internet, at least on any pages indexed by Google, has ever used the term in the context on talking about bakeries. Same with "bakery" or "baking".

HINT: If you have to come up with arguments for why your name isn't offensive, it's offensive. If you have to explain to anyone where your name came from (e.g. "it's a bakery term") before it appears inoffensive, it's offensive.
You can feign ignorance all you want, but the fact of the matter is, you knew it was an offensive name when you created the character (hence the need for arguments), you decided to risk it anyway, and now the character is deleted. Pardon me while I fail to summon any sympathy for you. I have trouble believing you're really that ignorant -- you knew what you were doing when you did it.

Im against name banning, im for name changing though.
I think that it should be made that they force you to change your name when you login the next time, and if that name is an offensive name again it should be followed by a ban.
Warnings are good

The problem with that is, it creates too much work for people who you aren't paying a monthly service fee to. Character deletion is both quicker and a much more effective deterrent. If there's no penalty for breaking the rules, people will do it all the time, because what's the worst that can happen? The work AN would have to do under those circumstances would be increased a thousandfold.

Ellen DeGeneris had a bit in her last HBO special about people who say something offensive... and immediately say, "I'm just kidding" after saying the offensive remark. Shortly after the offensive person says "I'm just kidding" after being offensive, they end accusing those who have been offended of having no sense of humor or being "politically correct."
Ellen DeGeneris then made the observation that if you know you have to say "I'm just kidding" after making a statement, you already know you are being offensive. That's why you are saying "I'm just kidding" in the first place.
If you want to post anything that comes to your mind on the internet, there's lots of blog hosts on the net you are free to do so. This is not YOUR blog. These are not YOUR servers. You cannot say whatever you like here. This is NCSoft property. They decide what you may and may not say. If you want to fight for your right to offend people, do it on your own blog. If you want to say whatever you want to say on an MMORPG, feel free to design your own MMORPG and say whatever you like on it.

I must say that while many names are a source of constant mirth and enjoyment, many just piss me off. I'd like to enjoy a game without someone's av portraying "Christ is my b!tch" (have seen it BTW) or something similar.
It's a look at me tactic, and it's a very cheap one. If you want noticed, be good at the game. Teach others to do so. Give gifts. Invest your time.
But don't seek to shock and then think it's cool...

I've discovered in my random wanderings (ESPECIALLY on the internet) that where people see no real consequence for doing or saying something immoral, objectionable, or simply socially unacceptable, they will do or say precisely that. Without deeply held moral convictions instilled by moral training, people will largely tend toward selfish behavior whether that entails shocking others for one's own enjoyment or misusing people and resources for personal gain.
If we want to categorize these people who do such things, I think they safely fit within the box of "selfish, immature children" no matter their age.

I hope it's for the unoffensive reason and not the other one.
I've got a main char called 'Pimp Daddie'. It's not because I have a bunch of Female Mesmers working tents for me, but because I'm an awesome father of two. Should I really have to explain this? Actually, I'd prefer you didn't care...

im canadian, and i am also neutral... i dont really care if someone has an offensive name, and i dont see why it bothers you ppl... Hot Sticky Loads is just a name, and if your bothered by it, dont put your mouse over it when u play GW... better yet, dont play GW, because there are alot of offensive names, or semi-offensive ones, or names that ppl will think offensive when they are not. And, its not like you have to see the name every frikken day... unless the owner of that name is in your guild, or on your friends list... and, y would you have a person with an "offensive" name on your friends list anyway? and im sure as hell that ppl wont invite someone 2 their guild with the name of Hot Sticky Loads.. like, come on ppl...

Ooops... Should have clarified. I ment I wanted a sticky bun / cinibun. MMmm...
I'd also like the option of renaming your character. If they added in the ability to rename a character one time durning its life span (just incase someone finds it offensive) that wouldn't hurt would it?
I have a PvP character named "Bad Player". I'm waiting for the day when someone becomes offended by it. LoL.

That's funny... and people will probably see some illusionary connection to be offended:
..."Why is it you used a female avie and named her "bad player"?"
..."Just because your guy is short, doesn't mean he's bad"
..."Why does the color of his skin make him bad?"

I'm not offended by character names, but I am amused by how some people will defend them.
