I used to play SWG also, I had 2 accounts since release. The CU destroyed that game and made it into a cheap rip off of other mmorpg's. I'm not the only person that hated the CU though. Last I checked, 15000 other people did too --> www.swgpetition.com

*hand up*
I've been playing SWG for 8 months... It was always fun up until now. Now I realize how much of a grind it was.
I have a 3/4 complete Jedi character on the Naritus server, with a Master Armorsmith alt.
The combat upgrade has ruined everything. My account will be cancelled within the month. On the more positive side, I wouldn't be playing GW if it wasn't for SWG being destroyed.

Actually went BACK to SWG after the terrible terrible things that were going on in World of Warcraft (Honor System chief among them).
Look me up. Foogle Macklemar on Bloodfin.

I cancelled my Star Wars Galaxies subscription roughly 48 hours after the combat upgrade was released to the live servers. I tested it on TC3 since the very hour it was available for public beta, so I decided to give it a try. I was horrified to see that the version on live was practically identical to the version on the beta servers.
The combat upgrade was the final nail in the coffin for that game, they never should've skipped closed beta, and they should've listened to the testers in public beta. Just thinking about that game now makes me cringe.
I was Jalena Darkwave on the Chimaera galaxy.

I know how you fell allot of co-workers are still playing, just can't keep up in todays online games. I dont have the time or care to play some games for long hours and being in the military. At least with guild wars I can just jump right in and dont need to grind. Swg just has to many issues. Thanks for the reply... Ribisi

The CU upgrade ruined it for me. I dont care if they fix the xp, fix the bugs, whatever it isn't star wars anymore with that dern update. Not to mention, before it you could be ANYTHiNG you wanted, now it's pretty restricted. Forget about beign a Medic/Scout/Artisan because you can't fight so youre now SOL..sorry! They ruined it, even those that like the CU can't deny that you cannot have all the class combo's you used to be able to.

I loved SWG, played it from release upto JTL's release, never grinded, mastered, Carbineer, Creature Handler, Ranger, Tka and Doctor in the time i played, collected many rares and had a museum in a nabooian castle . Ulocked my jedi from visiting all locations and completing the major quests(never bothered with holocrons as my 1st said tailor).
I gotta say the best days of the game were the early days, only mounts, no speeders etc, and you could control your own mini army of storm troopers . There used to be some wild wars between the player cities

I got SWG + JTL at same moment. Played 2 month and was bored. Had 2 Houses, best ships, master skills and comon the skillpoint gain was dumbest work ever.
Get Buffed, make mission after mission after mission after mission oh buffs off, new buffs and keep on trucking.
The most fun i had with dancers and cantina sitters. Alot of talking and ingame party hehe. Master ID was fun too, helping people to give their char a new look. That alone quite fullfilling.
THE best thing SWG did to me was getting 512 RAM more for my PC so the game would play better ^^.

The CU is the reason my brother-in-law left SWG and bought GW. He bought us GW because he likes to play with his brother. So, his leaving SWG for GW is the reason we are playing GW.

I watched SWG fervently for a year before launch. I played Beta 3 as some of the first invites, played second day after launch in June '03, played 4 hours a night plus 10 hours on many weekends all the way until November '04.
The "CU" was still just a promise, and with 3 characters a month (just so I could have them all on the same server) at $48 a month, it just became not worth it.
Then the CU destroyed what was left of the SWG that I loved.
Naritus was my home from the beginning until the end.
Rest in peace my Bothans.
"Erdeid"
"Erleid"
You live again in the Guild Wars universe...

Wow, I feel like I'm in some kind of MMO's Anonymous.
You might remember me as:
Swampgirl Inez
of the Naritus server. Erdeid/Erleid up there is my husband and we got hooked on that game at the same time. We played off and on from just before launch till just after JtL. I really miss my yacht, The Heart of Gold, but I don't miss the game all that much. It's kind of sad, because I met great people and I did have fun for a while. It got really tedious there near the end.
We originally left because we couldn't keep up with the monthly fees. We decided to wait for the CU and see if it was worth going back. We kept in touch with our guild and they informed us of the changes and that they were all leaving for GW. We agreed that the real reason we didn't want to give up on SWG totally was the friends we made. Free online play means I can play with my friend again!
I am VERY impressed with this game and so far, I expect to be around here for a long, long while.
Thank you GuildWars!

I'm one of them! I played since BETA 3, loved it the whole time. Made Jedi, and pawned off my account quickly. The CU killed the fun of Jedi, although I must say, increased the fun of combat. GW is revolutionary and awesome, but SWG was just GIGANTIC and way more detailed than any other MMORPG out there. I miss it, but I won't go back.

another gone...
I was Chewshocca on the Lowca server since launch; Master TKM, Master Commando.
SWG started to lose it's luster for me when the Jedi grind really took hold and really splintered the guilds... those who wanted to keep playing as normal, and those that were hiding in remote areas to grind FS/XP without getting on the BH terminals.
But, the CU was the last straw. I could have dealt with the new system, but it drove all my in-game friends away. My account dries up in a week.
Fortunately, GW came along and all is well!

Syno, you never played Anarchy Online did you? =)
That is along the line of Starwars, but came out years ago. The game is still kicking and is currently about half way done its "Play for free for a year" promotion.
IT is the best MMO out there for sci-fi hands down. First to actually have ships and things like that. The fun value was so good. I've been constantly thinking about reactivting both of my accounts again but I dont even have much time to play GW much less AO. =(

No, never did. In fact, SWG was the only MMORPG I ever played, and only because I love SW! I have since tried the others, but I can't stand them...now I am waiting for Middle Earth Online, because I love that series too!
