I was just wondering if anyone else out there was a big progressive rock junky like myself. I grew up listening to Rush, and when I became older I started listening to bands such as Dream Theater and Symphony X. I jus was curious since I currently started a band, and we are trying to pull off the whole progressive metal thing.

Rush in thier hayday killed...seen them on the moving pictures tour and on the subdivisions tour....im into heavier stuff but good luck...whats the name of you band ,,,i'll keep an eye open

We are thinking about a couple of names for our band, but the one we all seem to like is Chronicles of Orion. It just sounds cool and has kind of like a mythological tone to it.

Yep. Drummer here since the 80's -- cut my Prog teeth on Rush and Yes -- fast forward to today and Dream Theater's Octavarium is in heavy rotation (along with Fate's Warning's FWX)!

Yeah I love Octavarium man. It is a great CD. I can't wait to go see Dream Theater and Symphony X at Gigantour. When I first heard that they were doing a tour together I creamed my shorts.. lol... Seriously though, it is gonna be awesome.

Prog rock? ... hmm Steve Hillage? Frank Zappa? Caravan?.. got you with the last one maybe... but GOOD LUCK ... Rock on! Give Roy Harper a listen.. especially his Led Zep collaberation album "Storm****" .. those were the days ... those *were* the days...

Yeah I know Gildan. Progressive rock really isn't "dead" but it is definately on life support in these times. The most well known progressive rock band in existance today (besides Rush) is Dream Theater, and hardly ANYONE knows who they are. You dunno how many forums or places I have been and have said "Hey any progressive rock fans in here?", and people would be like WHAT IS THAT? It kinda saddens me that more people don't respect the virtuostic elements and just pure raw talent of every musician that most progressive bands have.

Not really a progressive rock fan, but a big grunge fan. I depresses me when I have P.J's Versus or another great album blasting in my car and someone (like my brother-in law) calls it oldies

Glad to see I'm not alone being a Dream theater fan. They're my favorite group, I'm dl.....er.....BUYING Octavarium right now, we'll see how it sounds.

i like octavarium, but its not as good as some of their other ones (train of thought, scenes from a memory, six degrees of innerturbulence) are a few that come to mind

however it is pretty ownage

Hell yeah Yes counts. Them along with Rush are who I consider to be the "father's of modern prog".

Yeah man I agree with you 100%. Glad to see such good feedback on this post. I wasn't expecting many people to be progressive fans.

EDIT: For all Dream Theater / prog fans, John Petrucci has a solo album out. I heard a couple of songs from it, and they don't disappoint. You should check it out.

How on earth can you leave out Radio Heads? as musicians tha thave posted here how on earth can non of you post them as Progressive rock.

Right now i am really enjoying the new Cold Play Cd. it is full of some great harmony that has been missing form music now a days for a long time..

Life long fan of Tool (Tool = best Musically talanted group right now) this statement refering to main stream..
