hmm, I'll wait for a bit to see whether the PS3 will suffer from the dreaded PAL screen problem that has ruined my considerations since the PS2 was out...
I will definetly get the XBOX360 however, due to Media Player and Windows XP connectivity, as well as the choices of playing Backwards compatible games on it. And there is some usage for PSP users, as you can transfer movies and music onto the console. But as it's a Playstation Console, games CANNOT be downloaded to it.
And also, I'll keep updating my Lappy (Laptop) to get it almost fully-usable when the Guild Wars chapters come out

i'll wait a year and a half for the price to drop. also for the bugs to be worked out in both consoles because it's the first generation consoles that always have some sort of problems. after that time period, i'll eventually get around to buying the 360 and ps3.

First: PC VS Console
You can't compare console vs pc in terms of gaming. A consoles primary function is to play games. You pop it in and play, no need for any technically knowledge. Not every person is a hardware geek. The next generation consoles will have the power to out-graphic pc. But thats normal, programmers can cut a game to fit a console perfectly. PC games need to run on so much different hardware, pc settings and so on.
If you program a pc game so only high-end user can play it properly they lose money on the market, console game creators don't have that problem.
If you are not a hardware geek, if you hate drivers and hardware problems and to upgrade all the time, go with one of the newer consoles. PS2 and Xbox went both online, the new systems will build on that and make online gaming even better for PS3 and XBOX2, so a non-pc gamer won't miss the fun of online gaming/surfing.
I would get me a ps3 next to my pc. Most xbox games end up on pc anyway and not many xbox games grabbed my attention really.

Xbox for me. I bought the PS2 when it first came out, it lasted for about a year, then the drive went bad. When I called them on it, they pretty much told me to ship it to them and pay like $150 I think it was. I was pissed, but I just bought a new one. That one lasted about 3 or 4 months before the drive in it went out. Henceforth I will give no more money to Sony.

Firstly, it's easy to learn. Simple Google searches can teach you to build a working PC, how to upgrade it, how to run it, and how to maintain it. Many people teach themselves, I tought myself too.
Secondly, for anyone with the knowledge (or a friend with the knowledge), PCs vastly outclass consoles.

X-box 360 here probably.
Unless PS can come up with a version of X-Box live...
I have all the systems right now--my kids areplaying with the PS2--unless I get the urge to play Champions of NOrrath or FF. Course backwards compatibility might mean I have to make room for the PS3 too.
got the GC and PS2 in the kids living room
My X-Box Halo edition is in my bedroom with my GW gaming PC.
My fiancee does not mind if I play--she goes to bed by 11 or 12 and I don't sleep till 2am so I have 2-3 ours to game or watch movies.

Hi, I'm an egineer and so is my brother and just about everyone in our family. My brothers wife is an honest to god rocket scientist. She enjoys playing games on consol because she can't figure out how to upgrade her PC, nor does she want to shell out $500 for a graphics card when she can own a PS2/Xbox/PsP for the same price.
I know just about everything there is to know about modern PC hardware and how it works. But for most games I play I prefer the console. It's just easier and consumes less of my valuable time. (I don't enjoy computer tinkering as a hobby, just as I don't change my own oil)
As far as a PC outclassing a console. Apples to Oranges. High end PC = $1,500. High end console = $199-$299. So, saying a PC outclasses a console is like saying a Ferarri outclasses a Mustang. Sure it does, but at what price.

PS3 - reasons are numerous...
1) backwards compatability with PSX and PS2. PSP "True" Compatability
2) upgradable
3) better specs make better games, period. Looking at PS2 vs XBox, it was evident XBox was better, even on identical games.
4) earlier production date, more time for game manufacturers to get real good with the coding!
5) free online vs XBox live pay-per-play
Ah the list goes on and on for me, buts it's really personal preference. I'll admit, I get upset when XBox gets some of the good games (KOTOR anyone?) But I have been with Sony for years now, and always loved them. Just a good quality console.

For some it may be easy. I myself thought most of what i know and i tinker on my pc alot. But there are always ppl that just can't do it. Its not a bad thing and i don't say "you are stupid cause you can't tinker with yer PC".
Example: C&C Generals. I don't get it to run on my machine. As far as i know it must be my Mainboard - Graphicscard combination. Both are top/not so old hardware and compatible with almost anything.
The game is known for that problem on several occasions.
With a PC there is always the risk that this or that program/game wont run/properly.
With a console you just need to fear scratches on yer cd/dvd/whateverdisk the console uses .
Besides all that gibberish, PC vs Console is a question of money too.
In the end:
I propably end up buying a PS3 to be able to play some favorite game lines (Soul Calibur, Final Fantasy and so on) that primary exist for console only.

here is my reason for xbox 360, as much as you all want to complain about halo 2, it was a good game and fun playing. And for xbox live paying, well its worth it, cross games friends list, awsomeness, and as for games, KOTOR, Halo, Gears of War, 99 nights, ghost recon3, elder scrolls, some of these games come out for ps3, but never as good as the xbox versions,
But on the otherhand PS3 OMFG KILLZONE2 LOOKS AMAZING, buts thats what i thought when i saw killzone 1
So im still gonna wait untill they are out and i play them both

With Final Fantasy 11 you picked the worst FF rpg ever. That game won't get microsoft more buyers (and if it does, well the ppl that are used to FF will learn that FFXI is just YUCK).

That is, if possible, the worst example for a game coming out on X360 to give us. Not only does the general game design of FFXI stink, but so do the graphics! Not something i'd look forward to on a "next-gen" system.
Look's like microsoft is still trying to catch up to sony.

As it looks like now, the X360, but then again that's the only system to have truly "launched". The PS3 isn't even done yet, all the "in-game" footage is just prerenders so we can get a feel of what the system is capable of.
They did the same thing before they launched the PS2, and the games never actually looked remotely as good as the pre-renders the claimed was "real-time". (I'm perfectly sure that you CAN get the PS3 to display such graphics. As long as it doesn't devote any other computing power to, you know, AI, Physics, game content and that sort of stuff, and simply concentrates on the graphics. )
Don't get me wrong, I have all three consoles and I like them all for their different qualities, it just seems to me that there really is not much to know about the PS3 or Revolution yet compared to the X360 which has given out total specs, shown live real-time demos and such.
The X360 is simply the only NG-console where I know what I will get at this moment.

Anyone who buys the first console to come out is weird anyway. All 3 consoles will come out with only some month between them.
I would hold my money, wait till all systems are out and watch the market. Which system sells better? Which has the better/nicer games that i like? And so on.

Don't forget: which system dies after a few months because it was designed by morons.

Well none of the now systems died. When gamecube came out in japan and sold bad i thought it would die after one year and PS2 and Xbox would keep on.
Learned my lesson from that
